Vita "hacked," (PSP) homebrew on the way (not piracy)

That's the lenght people go to play "backups" and homebrew!
Yeah, I'm actually quite glad I went to those lengths. With how easy it is to create your own UMD images with a CFW PSP, I can now take my entire portable Lumines collection (with Every Extend Extra thrown in for good measure) on the one device with barely any effort.

But why would anyone want to play Lumines 2? ;)

So I'm not sure if this is the best thread to ask this in, but I did a search and don't really see a general Vita thread. I just ordered up a Wifi Vita for basically 20 bucks by finally trading in my points earned on a Playstation Visa card (which got me a PS3 for -$100 a couple years ago).

I see memory cards are fucking outrageously over priced. Is there really no alternative? It just seems wrong that to get a 32GB memory card I need to fork over >$90. But if the homebrew scene develops and I can have a portable device to emulate all my classic games...I might have to bite the bullet.

Really no alternative. To be honest, I'm surprised there's no Chinese knock-off yet, but maybe Sony have been super sneaky this time with their memory card tech.

damn missed it by a few days, should have bought it earlier :/
How long ago did you know about it? The one hard-and-fast rule (I've gathered... it's only the first time I've bought a game for a current FW exploit) is that the name of the game is super secret because once Sony knows, they'll pull it as soon as they can.

I'm still waiting for the hackers to port the uno exploit to Gravity Crash. Is there a chance they'll do this?
They can't. Exploits are game-based for specific firmwares. Once Sony patches a game exploit via the firmware then it's essentially like it never existed (unless you have said older firmware installed). If you stay on the old firmware you'll be fine, but you won't be able to go online because they usually block people with older firmwares from connecting at all without forcing an upgrade.

I've known about it for a little while now (1-2 weeks?) but haven't set up my vita until the day I posted it. Guess I should have bought it on the ps3 or something first.

Ah well, I'm sure there will be a new exploit soon. Definitely want to finish some of my old psp games on the vita instead.

Probably only one until the next major firmware release. I think (but I'm only new to Vitas, so I'm probably wrong) the last exploit was 1.80. So expect the next one to be for a semi-major firmware, and given we're only on 2.02, you could be waiting until 3.0 (worst-case scenario... I'd say probably 2.20 or 2.5 if either of those were to exist).

So, I figured out what the problems with my ISOs was during the transfer! There is still a tiny issue though, it says that I don't have enough space to move the game to ms0/ISO.

After that, I tried to use the FTP method and the game I copied showed up perfectly, but when I clicked on it, it went to a blank screen for a minute and then said that "An error has occurred" with an error code.

What game?

What game?

Well, it was Crisis Core, but I got it working using a different ISO. It doesn't make much sense... the ISO that I was using earlier worked perfect when it wasn't y-menu, but then I switched it, and even though all the other games started to work, Crisis Core actually stopped working. A fresh dump seemed to fix the problem though. Now all my homebrew and ISOs are working thanks to the FTP method.

Does anyone know how to get seplugins running? More specifically, the livepatch slowdown fix for FFT WOTL. I put the Game.txt with the right line: ms0:/livepatch/livepatch.prx 1 in both seplugins as well as the UNO savedata folder, with all the files where they were on my PSP, but it doesn't seem to be taking effect.

Yes, if someone could tell me how to install a game with a patch?

Did a long google search but not sure, recently bought a vita with firmware 1.67. Thinking about updating it to 1.81 manually. is the exploit for Mad Blocker Alpha, Gravity Crash and Urbanix still possible if my vita is 1.81 or games been patched? Really want to get back to Homebrew on PSP again but with 5in OLED :)

Since i'm new to the vita scene, What the easiest route to get this bad boy to play some homebrew.

all of the exploits have been patched. if you have time read this thread, it'll give you information on where to get information on the next exploit. the newest exploit works on 2.02, so i wouldn't update passed that.

Yeah I have the pre-patched Gravity Crash. Is there no chance that they port the UNO exploit to the Gravity Crash hacked save file? so that it will work on 2.02?

I was in the same boat. If Mad Blocker Alpha is still up (it should be) you'll be able to download it on your PS3, transfer it to your 1.81 Vita and use that exploit without a problem.

I'd say that if they haven't already, then it wouldn't be possible otherwise they would've done it :) But thinking about it though, it makes sense that they should be able to... so I dunno. That question might be answered on wololo.net (or whatever the address is) forums already. I might check (if I remember) when I get home tonight, because I'm now curious as well!

I copied a new game using vita ftp into my iso folder.... And now I get a black screen when I start UNO. This is problematic, since I can't even access the folder to erase that file that seems to be causing problems. Does anyone have any idea on how I could fix it? The FTP channel is closed, too..

Did you try restarting the Vita? I had that black screen problem once and a simple restart solved the problem.

If that doesn't work, I suggest recopying the UNO savefile exploit.

Yea, didn't help. It seems it happened because the ftp transfer was interrupted, and the basic menu can't handle corrupted iso. I'll try to install ymenu, which might fix it.

It did help. Now I just need to find out why those ISO are fucking with the vita. Damn.

Now I messed up ymenu. Damn me for being stubborn. Can't access anything anymore. Fuck me.

Had this same exact thing happen to me, and the easiest way to do it is this.

Delete the uno save exploit off your vita completely.
Re-copy the save exploit into the folder you use with CMA
Take the eboot.pbp file for your FTP program, and rename it to MENU.PBP and copy it to the uno save folder, overwriting the exploit MENU.PBP
Then copy the exploit save back onto your vita using CMA

Now when you boot the uno exploit, it should immediately start the FTP program instead of TN menu or ymenu and allow you to ftp into your vita and delete the iso. Then you just need to re-copy over the uno exploit with either the original menu or ymenu.

Hope I explained that well enough, fighting off the flu so a bit loopy.

That worked perfectly, thanks!
I think I am going to try the iso on a separate memcard i can wipe if things go south.

Er... hang on. That list is for the 2.02 update, and the site that was linked to says 2.02 and that it was released on December 19th. I was kind of wondering, because a lot of those updates sounded old.

They were nice updates when they were released a month ago. That list is old, I'm not even sure if there is going to be an update.

Quite right! Next time I have to click on the link first.

Oh wow, Sony took it down. Seriously, it was there yesterday afternoon. The fourth line in the quote even says, "Main features in system software update version 2.05". I copied and pasted that directly from their site. I'm not sure what the deal is, but you can google to verify.

Maybe it was a mistake by Sony or maybe its coming soon.

The updates are old though. When the next FW comes, I hope it's not mandatory.

Well, that sucks. It was good having high scores while it lasted :/

Won't they just hurry up and bust open the regular Vita FW already? They can release that now if they like, I won't mind.

Hahaha - that's funny! They can't hack 3DS yet and you're wondering why they can't kick the door open on the Vita? Don't hold your breath for that because it is not going to happen in the near future, and may never happen at all.

I actually cared if the Vita was hacked because I thought it would dampen 3rd party support.
But going on how support for the Vita is worse than the PSP, I honestly don't give 2 shits anymore. At least it would give us a larger variety of games to play.
