Dead Space 3 demo available for 360 and PS3

I still prefer a lot this. The first two games are incredibly flat & bland graphically. The drill part, wow, fantastic particle effects, seems next generation to me. Jeez I love so much Frostbite 2, I can't imagine what could been Mass Effect indeed the horrible UE3.

I don't get what's so better graphically than the first two games except the location change that some may prefer...also DS3 is not Frostbite 2 and it's quite obvious since it looks really similar to the previous games.

The fact they implemented a cover system is a joke, more boxes being checked.

The irony is this will sell less then DS 2 as well.

Played the demo was better than I was expected made me jump a few times, the first time I encountered the face hugger things I must of stomped it a thousand time lol! why is every game coming out next month?? some difficult choices :/

What does Frostbite 2 have to do with this? DS3 doesn't use that engine.

They released (will release?) this figure:

Dead-Space-3-Isaac-Clarke-ARTFX-Statue-Dark.jpg
Yes, you can already pre-order the figure in many shops here in Europe for ~120€ with a release supposed to be on August 2013.
Just search for Dead Space 3 ARTFX Statue 1/6 Isaac Clarke 32cm :)

The fact that people actually believe this is on Frostbite 2 kinda makes a lot of the whole engine wars a big joke.

I think people just saw the rumour and just assumed as much, Frostbite 2 on current gen consoles isn't really a massive leap over what we had already, it comes into its own when it has the resources to take advantage of, engines behind games like Dead Space and multiple others don't really take that jump regardless of platform.

Great demo. New enemies are genuinely horrifying (you know the ones I mean). And that drill section was one of the most intense moment in the series. Weapon crafting seems much more in-depth. The game looks incredible too.

Seems like the best Dead Space yet.

Agreed, the whole idea that there are human enemies in addition to Necromorphs that use guns is really off-putting to me.
Really? I dunno, I think it brings much needed variety to the combat.

The "cover" system isn't even really what it seems either and doesn't have a significant impact on the encounters. The game was not designed around cover.

So wasn't really looking forward to this at all, but my buddy convinced me to download the demo just so he could have someone to co-op with. Not really sure what the complaints with co-op are, it doesn't seem dude-bro at all. In fact I'd say it's just as horrifying as ever. The new atmosphere also feels fresh. Not completely convinced yet if I want it day one though, even with the Amazon deal. Anyone know how long the story is supposed to be?

Played PS3 sp demo. Graphically looks amazing. I mean the environment and backgrounds.
The enemies took a hit, first thing I noticed how crappy and cheap the 3 tentacle enemies look. Gameplay, way it's a pure shooter now. Enemies are bullet sponges, the cutting limb is severely reduced because of that. You can still cut but what's the point if it happens on enemy's low life, he'll die anyway. Isaack moves like a tank, feels lot less mobile then in ds2.
Seems aiming all the time makes him quicker. Building weapons feels nice.

Gameplay feels ok. Dumbed down with tons of universal ammo and health but ok. I didn't die once in the demo. Dead Space where you don't die in first 10 minutes feels a little off.

The Thing vibes definitely. Not bad. Worth buying eventually.

There have always been human enemies.

It's just most of them die in horrific ways before they can get a shot at Isaac. The series has been building up the human threat for sure though, from both EarthGov and the Unitologists.

Forgot to say about the annoying room-masked loading-room, that seems really out of place in outdoor environment. Either it wasn't as prominent before or just better masked.

I just played the demo and came out rather disappointed. While previous 2 demos were nothing outstanding at least I got a good grip of the system and liked them. This one, OTOH, feels like a mess.

Let's begin with the running button. I think it's a mistake of assigning running button to L2 (PS3). I was so used to running by pressing X, it feels unnatural having to press L2 while steering with the left stick. Also, at times Isaac seems to run like a grandpa. Sloooooowly.

Then there's the weapon crafting. I have to admit that I'm not fond of it. I much prefer the old upgrade system. I can't even find a way to upgrade the stasis now and I find that I need that more. I think you have to upgrade the weapon attachment to upgrade the stasis now and that seems stupid. In the last game the stasis was independent of the weapon.

Also 2 weapon slots instead of 4? Eh. :/

The environment/graphic seems to have taken a nosedive for some reason. I really don't like the Tau Volantis environment. Too much sun/brightness for a game like this. Also, the character model seems to have less definition/texture sharpness/polygon this time around.

Enemies are somewhat bullet sponges as someone had mentioned. It's weird. In the past, you had a real precise feel of satisfaction when you dismember enemies. But now, they just feel like they'll crumble as long as you put as many lead on them. Also, the fact that they are now faster means you have less time to strategise on how you want to dismember them. Sheesh. I'm pretty sure this was one of the main complaints in DS2 but it seems it wasn't taken on board and instead you guys just increased the speed even more.

Hate the cover system (or lack thereof). It seems even worse than RE6 one if that's even possible. I don't see the point of the actively attacking human enemies to be honest. Also, after coming off RE6, I really miss the ability to dodge and slide. The enemies are becoming faster and coming in great numbers but Isaac seems becoming more like a tank. Not really happy about that especially during the drill room where the usual gangbang scenario takes place.

You upgrades stasis like you used to by upgrading your rig. It is just that in DS3 you have to do that at the suit change stations. After you selected your suit scroll down and there you will find the rig upgrades like stasis, health, air etc.

And there is a way to doge. Clarke is now capable of a combat roll, you can roll forwards, backwards or to the side to doge enemies.

Wasn't expecting much from the demo but I really enjoyed it. I'm glad to see someone else attempting the blizzard horror that Lost Planet only touched on.

What? How?

On Xbox, double-tap LB

Edit: beaten! And yeah, it's either not very good, or I haven't gotten the timing down, because everytime I tried to dodge the spider I kept getting clocked by it.

Nah I think it's just that bad.

"What do you want me to do? Roll? I didn't do this in 30 years but here goes... Ugghhh! Is that good enough? Let's not do this again. My back..."

Didn't care for the demo at all, I was really disappointed seeing as how I loved Dead Space 1 and 2. Will probably skip this or wait for it to drop down to $20.

I won't go that far, still day 1 purchase for em. But the demo did give me an impression of a dip in quality compared to the first two. Nothing I can really put my finger on, just the overall presentation. The menus, the font, the music in the main menu... I dunno, to me it feels like whoever was in charge of making sure DS1 and 2 were slick and polished and tasteful and AAA left the team and his position was filled by someone who is satisfied with B level quality. I'm holding out some hope that the finished game proves otherwise, but the DS1 and 2 demos were basically 100% representative in this regard...

? DS3 use frostbite 2. Visceral claimed that when have starting the development, time ago. However it's quite evident in the use of the shaders, transparancies etc etc.. at least, for my eyes.

I think I preferred Dead Space when it was a third person Doom 3. Still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt though.

I think the combat role is a big immersion breaker for me. Part of what made the first Dead Space great for me was the fact that you were in a big chunky mining suit. Your movement felt heavy and is toned down pretty heavily in DS3 with moves like this. Also, if you ADS in the first part you walk fast down the snow instead of slow if you don't. Little things like that break it a bit for me. I'm pretty much in line with Replicant's post above. Still be there day 1 though.

Now it's third person Lost Planet.

Wait.

Yeah agreed. I came with seriously low expectations, so it didn't feel too bad. It's feels like Dead Space super lite - contra style side story.

Lost Planet 3 could be more Dead Space'y.

Also, the text is so fucking small that when I played it on a plasma TV in the living room, I couldn't read anything. I had to go back to my room and played it on my LCD, which has closer distance to where I sit to actually see the text on screen.

I have played both the demo; not seems the same to me, in a lot of things.

The only time I noticed it was when I was outside in the snowy areas, it seemed like they intentionally pulled the camera way further back than normal. So far back that I couldn't make out the numerals on the ammo count holograms. But other times the camera was right up behind Isaac's back as usual.

Played this at a friends house:

I am one of those who loved the first DS, and only merely sorta enjoyed DS2. So take my opinion for what you will

The game was too light, at least the level in the demo. It is as if Event Horizon and Alien/s are no longer the real inspiration for this series. Somehow the atmosphere is not there at all, it could be just that particular section of the demo and is not a clear representation of the final game.

I will admit that perhaps having another game on a space ship, with typical space ship corridors might have produced some "oh we have done this a million times before", so i do appreciate that we are somewhere else now. There is a definite The Thing vibe with the frozen tundra, but none of the psychological factor of it, it just sorta looked like it.

The snow and fog did give a Silent Hill esque look to the game, where you feel disoriented (in a good creepy way) and i enjoyed that, but all the crazy cut scenes looked more like a Tom Cruise action movie than anything you would see in a horror film.

The eerie and creepy factor of Dead Space 1 is just not replicated, to me this looks more like Uncharted 4, where Drake has gone off to Antartica to retreat a ancient old medalion. I hope its just this level, and the feel of dread and isolation is better done in the other levels.

No they didn't, Dead Space 3 is on the Visceral Engine like the previous 2, it was a rumour that they were changing the engine for DS3.

They are using Frostbite2 for the new Army of Two which they are also developing, nothing else announced currently, chances are DS4 if we get one will be on Frostbite2 as EA wanted to move all their studios onto it.

Your eyes are 100% wrong. It's the same engine used in DS1/2, but with upgrades. This has been confirmed.

Same gameplay, same engine, same boring animations... they just added snow and coop. I'm tired of this franchise btw.

I take it you have been ignoring the storyline for the past 3 games.

I know that there have been human enemies, but for the most part you weren't actively fighting them. The only time I can really recall being shot at during the previous two games from humans was the security crew in the sprawl trying to take you down, and you weren't expected to fight back against them and the guy who shot you with the rivet gun towards the end.
