I agree it looks great, but since you made the claim I think you're the one who has to back it up. We haven't even seen it actually running yet.Prove me wrong.
The fact that Wii U games are already getting compared to top tier games like Red Dead Redepmtion, Far Cry 3, Just Cause 2 is a very good sign.
You ask Ninty fan and you can expect the answer. There is the reason why they are called Nintendo fan.
Anyway, for me. Long time Nintendo fan. Stop being their fan since Wii era. I still enjoy Nintendo game. But hardware, no. It becomes a toy. Seriously. 1 generation behind is not acceptable. Considering that I'm quite an early adopter gamer/tech user (even though I still end up buying Wii twice). You can still be innovative while keeping yourself up to speed with your competitor. Not exactly as powerful (spec wise) but not this 1 generation behind. This is stupid. And it completely separate Nintendo console from the rest. Now they won't get any good 3rd party support. I don't deny they have good 2nd party. But still, that's not enough.
I don't think it's about being frustrated. Since I no longer care about them. I bought 3DS just for Revelation. And maybe WiiU for Monolithsoft X.
iPads and Vita are considered to be high tech devices. Yet as far as gaming is concerned you don't play Mass Effect 3 or Call of Duty Black Ops on it with real controls.please explain the bolded part here Marc...?
Red Dead Redemption for example.
The fact that unfinished Wii U games are already getting compared to top tier games like Red Dead Redepmtion and Far Cry 3 is a very good sign.
Nah. That game was endless desert and did not look this good even in town.

You can play real console games on the GamePad with no control concession. So the low tech label is relative to what you look at with the Wii U.
What's inside the console is reductive.

No it isn´t, the WiiU launched 7 years after the 360.

Merely looking at what's inside the console is reductive.

Well, perhaps you see this as a low tech route. I don't. I'm as amazed today as I was when I got the Wii U, I feel like I'm holding a high tech device in my hands.but that doesn´t make any sense..? I can´t pick up a WiiU gamepad and play without the console itself..? the gamepad is a controller that is streaming (sort of) the image from the console itself.. you can´t play any games on the gamepad without the console..? it´s just a controller..
It's annoying that I have to buy an underpowered, gimmicky console that won't get much support just to play their excellent games, all of which I feel would be better without the gimmicks at all.
So yeah, it's annoying.
Well..the DS has quite a great library and quite close to SNES in many ways...yet it wasn't the must "hi-tech".More frustrated that 3rd party support will never near SNES levels again XD, which is what everyone kinda wants but know won't happen =S
I honestly think when the other two next-gen consoles come out, more bodies are gonna drop. It's gonna be raining blood.
Was just about to post this.... These new round of games shown for the WiiU look good sure, but they look nothing better than you average AAA 360 or PS3 game.
But that doesn't really matter to be honest, the only games that any real Nintendo fan cares about are the core games. Your Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon, Smash Bro's etc... If and when those core games start to suck, then Nintendo fans should start worrying about their stance on weak hardware.
This is the last thing I will ever understand I'm afraid. I like Nintendo now because of their unique hardware, not despite it. I don't know why people want three near identical traditional consoles, all of which would be inferior to PC anyway.
Sure the SNES (in some cases) ran circles around the Genesis, but it was still low end hardware compared to the NEOGEO which had been out for a while before the SNES hit.
But my real issue with Nintendo is simply that their brand is a kid's brand. Nintendo is what you give your kids until they are old enough to earn their own Xbox or PlayStation. As a grown man, I can't expect people to take me seriously if I play Nintendo. A man plays Xbox or PlayStation or PC or he doesn't play at all. My perception is that the only grown men that play Nintendo are mama boys who never grew up. They probably also play pokemon games and fall into all manner of nasty stereo types that I as a gamer don't want to be associated with.
Thus I keep Nintendo at arms length. I don't think Nintendo is socially acceptable for an adult.
I don't want three identical consoles. I want them to go 3rd party so I can just play their damn games =P

Not fustrated really, you just have to face the truth. Nintendo (and Sega) will always have a place in my heart due to me growing up with them, but in my opinion, it is not wise to just have their console as your main system of choice anymore. They are more of a sidekick now to your main system. It's a real sticky situation because yes you will probably not get all of those great 3rd party games on Nintendo anymore, but Nintendo gets those great niche 3rd party exclusives to go along with that beefy 1st party. So all in all, you still need them, and the quality of their games outweighs the technical side of things in my opinion.
Not sure if serious...I'm a fan of the game industry as a whole.
And for me that means I can't support Nintendo for what they are doing by going the low tech route. If MS and Sony do the same, I will fall back on PC.
I dropped Nintendo after the Game Cube. I never got a Wii, and won't be picking up a Wii U.
I want games to keep pushing forward with respect to technology. Its is technology that will enable life like experiences, whether it be a fantasy game or one based on reality. We can't get there if Nintendo doesn't push the technology. You can only replay the same-ish Mario and Zelda games so many times.
I agree that layering some hyper graphics over Mario won't make it a better game. But imagine an open world Mario where the whole world is simulated and you actually ride Yoshi's around fields and over mountain passes.
Either Nintendo can't come up with new ideas or the hardware they put out isn't capable of making such visions a reality. What Wii gamers get instead are small worlds, shoddy ports or no ports at all, and I don't want to be in that group of console owners.

It's like the first time they've seen an HD game. I've mentioned this in another thread... for several pages. Apparently FC3, RDR, and Just Cause 2 (all open world games with hundreds of more things on screen) isn't impressive compared to X...
This better be a troll post.
Well there where actually things in the desert like plants, dust, animals, humans etc. In X there is just emptiness. Still looks good for a current gen game but nothing more.

Yeah, i also think that some of the games like X, Wonderful 101 look pretty good and i´m looking forward to play them one day. But people need to stop pretending that they are somehow beyond current gen graphics, they are not.
The WiiU is not an hardware upgrade over 360/PS3, i know that sucks and people have expected more (me too) but that´s not what it is. Get over it.
Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.

At this point i´m pretty confident that the WiiU is the first HD console for some people here. There is no other way to see more than current gen graphics in these games.
