Public Changing Room Nudity

Well I am from Finland so that should tell how I feel about nudity lol (sauna culture). Still remember having a chat with some random foreign a long time ago in internet and he was really puzzled that how I can go to sauna with my sister and mother.

I had a very uncomfortable experience a few weeks ago in the gym. did my workout, went to the showers and thought nothing of stripping down and showering in front of others, as I finished showering, I noticed two guys just standing and staring at me. normally, I'd think nothing of it, but they didn't stop staring, they tracked me as I left the showers and went to my locker and kept staring as I dried myself anddidn't stop until I was fully clothed.

very uncomfortable, especially when you've only recently shaved and your junk is even more visible than it might otherwise be.

im too self conscious of prying eyes to do that! i head straight for a cubicle when im changing to go swimming, but if its just my sister im okay with because pretty much we were brought up that way with our mom.
Although being self conscious plays a part in me not getting naked infront of people i also just don't like it, i feel violated. And it's not that i am scared people are going to look at my kit and laugh because it's above average, i just don't enjoy or want people looking at me naked.

I get a little self conscious when i am with my boyfriend in private as well which i know is ridiculous and i am working towards that but getting naked in front of strangers? Fuck that.

No, I'm incredibly uncomfortable when men starting getting naked in front of me. I do not want nothing but air inbetween my eyeballs and another man's penis.

I'm 25 and I never have given a fuck in my decade+ of changing rooms. Some dirty old man drools at my ass? Some homophobe is offended by seeing my cock? Can't think of anything in the world I care less about then what they think.

What about public sauna? (I like it)

I was once in a sauna complex with a couple of friends. I told them beforehand that according to this complex' regulations you can enter saunas with only your towel on, no shorts or anything. They laughed at me and went in wearing shorts anyway (leaving their towels outside). Few minutes later, a lady from reception enters the sauna we were in and tells them that they either have to undress now and leave shorts outside or leave the sauna. Awkward looks on their faces were priceless :>

IME @ gym, the only guys who'd go full monty are usually the old and criggly ones. The young ones are too shy to flaunt what they have even though they have awesome bodies.

AHAHAHAHA. This.

Nothing wrong with nudity and even less so in the context of a changing room. People are there to get shit done not stare at naked people. It's the same in mixed nude spas or saunas too, from the perspective of someone who doesn't find themselves in these situations regularly, I can see why they might find it awkward, fair enough perhaps, but there is nothing sexual/weird/taboo about nudity in and of itself.

My thoughts.

I have no issue getting naked in a changing room, but I also don't then stand there balls out talking to randoms and stuff. Kit off, shower, dry, kit on.

Hi all,

This is based on a discussion my girlfriend and I had at dinner last night (yup). I mentioned that I'm totally comfortable getting naked in public changing rooms - say, a swimming pool or a spa - and that I find it weird when I see grown, adult men obviously wasting time to be alone, or otherwise trying to undress under towels. My girlfriend then said that this is far more common in women's changing rooms and the only ones who just flat out get naked are old women who just don't give a fuck.

So, GAF, how do you feel? Are you comfortable getting your kit off in front of other people of the same sex? Would you if it were mixed? Since when? I know I didn't when I was a kid.

(FYI I'm a 24 year old guy and I'm slightly chubby but not physically disgusting or anything).
All my fantasies crushed...

If its a place to get changed I don't care if it's women or men looking at me. Put me naked just outside the change room with the same people and it would bother me. I'm not embarrassed at all by people seeing me but it just wouldn't sit right.

I know for a fact that there's this bizarre semi-ritual at my gym in which every woman is allowed to fondle the breasts of whoever gets a set of implants so they can check how "real" they feel. Yes, there are lots of improved boobs at my gym. It blew my mind.

The men's locker?

Yeah...

Nudity never was a taboo when i grew up. We went to nude beaches when i was a kid, swimming lessons in school were nude and mixed gender. More nude beaches as a teenager, then army. So no i don't feel uncomfy in public changing rooms and i find it a bit silly and immature if someone does.

Don't travel to the US with that mentality. You might get arrested.

Seriously.

I'm totally okay with being naked. I even frequent German spas when I visit Germany, and they're all about the nudity--it's insulting if you aren't naked the whole time.

I'm completely confident with my body type though.

wait, nude swimming lessons in school? This is really weird

I don't prance around but I don't care. I haven't been to a place without private showers in over 10 years though

I live in Finland and I've been swimming every week for years so I've been in public and private saunas and changing rooms A LOT. Never had any problems with that and the thing is, nobody really cares how you look or if you have a small penis or something.

If you go to a public sauna with your swimsuit on here, there's a 90% possibility that someone will tell you to take it off.

I'm fat and not very pleasant to look at while naked, so I try to be swift when I go and bathe.

No one really pays any attention though, so it's more because I don't see the point in being naked. The purpose is to get into your swim-shorts or back into your normal and dry gear, so there's no reason to sit around half-naked doing nothing.

Won't do it. Won't even go down to my underwear. Refused to change in front of everyone during P.E. too. Just won't do it.

I have an alright body with an alright schlong so I am comfortable whypping it out. Also played high school and college hockey so I am used it.

I'm curious. Isn't there a chance of men getting boners from seeing hot chicks in the mixed saunas? That's the only thing holding me back from going to one.

Never. The only people who can see me naked are people who have earned it.
or people who follow my 'special tumblr' :(

I am comfortable doing it but I rarely find the need to shower at the gym since I am headed home soon after. Plus I have to bring my own towel which is annoying.

Everyone keeps their eyes to themselves so I really don't understand why people are so shy about it.

I hate being naked anyway.

It was common in the US in the past (prior to 1970's). Don't think it was co-ed though.

wikipedia:nude swimming said:
Before the YMCA began to admit females in the early 1960s, swimming trunks were not permitted in their pools,[10] and high school swimming classes for boys sometimes had similar policies, citing the impracticality of providing and maintaining sanitary swimming gear and clogging swimming pools' filtration systems with lint fibers from the swimsuits. These practices were common because of the perception that there was nothing wrong or sexual about seeing members of the same gender in the nude, especially in these indoor contexts among equals in 'birthday suit uniform'. In some areas, this extended well into the early 1970s.

In some English schools, Manchester Grammar School for example, nude swimming was compulsory until the 1970s.[11] This was also the case for some US high [12] and junior high schools.[13]

Heh. Yuh, that picture is me.

I don't care that much really, though the shirt stay as long as long as possible, affording me some cover of my private (insert small joke here). I don't change underwear under my towel.

Probably a lot of your/my/anyone's attitude stems mostly from whether or not you were a grower versus a shower in high school.

Now as an adult, I generally don't care because nobody cares one way or the other about seeing others naked in there, but I don't want to be the only doofus strutting around naked if everyone else has a towel. As soon as an apathetic old man goes full monty, I do it too.

If you've ever been in say... a casino where absolutely nobody uses the facilities because they're only there a token gesture for kids, the best feeling you could ever have in your life is drying off nude in a sauna. Bring in your trunks and they'll instantly dry too!

Naked in the sauna and shower, but i cover up with a towel when I'm walking to and from my locker. Don't really care if people look at me naked.

Oh man, that hair dryer to dry your balls move is the shit. I remember staying at a hotel and finding a hair dryer in the bathroom and used it just for that. Good times.
This is the reason why all hair-dryers were removed from my gym changing rooms. If you wanna dry your balls, bring your own with you. Please don't use the public ones..

Never get nude in a fitting room, I'm not trying on boxers 0_o but smh if people try on boxers and don't buy them, gross.

I get naked in pool changing rooms, who cares it's only for a few seconds, also get naked and shower at the gym but then put a towel on

I have no problem with it, I took showers at school almost everyday. Might of made some of the kids in my gym class uncomfortable but that makes it even better.

Penn (from Penn and Teller) told a 40 minute story on a podcast of how that can go horribly, horribly wrong, and how the little grating that's meant to act as a heat shield doesn't work when it touches human skin.

When I was younger, I definitely wouldn't get buck naked in the gym locker room. Now I don't give a shit. I'm free ballin' and having conversations.

Who the fuck does this?

Stores don't let you try on underwear. If you've ever done it then you're a piece of shit.

In college I played water polo and found it pretty strange that some people would put on their speedo under their towel. I mean the suits don't leave much to the imagination in the first place. I never have a problem with it but don't stay naked longer than needed.
