EVO 2K13 Player's Choice: Donate money to breast cancer and get your favorite game in

I don't think any one person is gonna drop that amount for VF5. That's insane.

LA Akira might be able to do it, but the VF comm has Sega Cup, and I think the idea is Sega Cup comes first, to make sure Sega makes it an annual event like they plan.

Sega's been sponsoring some international tournies- I really think e-sports would have been a good place for VF to keep putting money, Raleigh just isn't exactly VF country, especially when Summer Jam is held the same weekend taking a bunch of Philly/NYC folks who would have come down to Raleigh instead (only one person north of NC was at MLG)

All you doubters.

Dear Entrement,

Hey fuck you.

From PAL land

Blame ATLUS, not me.

All this talk about mystery 50k snipes is really depressing. It'd be ass if some rich dude shits on communities mobilizing all their resources for the sake of research and getting their game into EVO. It'd really suck.

Meh

After the actual developers and people that worked on it using their fanbases outside of the player community to get to this point, I think anything is fair game

This donation cold war is ridiculous though lol. At least if that person who said that someone was pooling together outside donations for a last minute snipe for Skullgirls is to be believed.

Let's remember guys. In the end the real objective was to help out with stopping breast cancer.

Right?

hahahahahahaha

A donation for Skullgirls is a donation for another tournament for Chris G to win.

If that was the case I'd donate for Skullgirls just so GAF and the whole FGC would be salty.

BrandX - that guy who was having the terrible-ass meltdowns on the SG forum on SRK - has somehow racked up like 180 posts on SmashBoards in about a week. The guy is insane.

Both communities seem quite organized. Heating up!

He lost at the Socal Regionals side tournament to WingZero fyi. Apparently he was pretty salty about it, I wanna say he got either 2nd or 3rd on the back of playing exactly like he did pre-patch? His fundamentals are strong enough to take out 90% of the actual SG players out there regardless.

I'm consistently surprised that SG is able to still put up a fight against the Melee legion, to the point where they're still trading 1st and 2nd spots after the random 4k donation for Melee just blows my mind.

Oh wow, didn't know about that. Last thing I remember was him just running a train on most of the people who played Skullgirls with Ms. Fortune shenanigans and of course, his fundamentals.

Still can't see how this turns out, things are getting so close it's absolutely nutty.

Skullgirls: $23,181.18
SSBM: $23,145.06

Skullgirls $26.12 in the lead :o

aaand now SSBM broke 23,200 so it's in the lead. Man... this race.

A mystery snipe at the very end for some insane amount would generate hilarious amounts of salt. To be honest the only game I will probably watch on the nominee list is Dive Kick, so I'm all for whatever madness happens.

I wonder what will happen if/when the Skullgirls peeps donate that $3k they apparently have. And when they'll do it. That could really make or break it at this point.

Both communities have major last-minute snipes planned. Assuming the donations don't get TOO much higher before the final day, we'll likely see some snipe attempts by other communities as well. The final hours will be a total mindfuck for everyone involved.

Aren't the "Skulligls people" the developers/people who worked with the game?

Isn't that like against the rules.

I'm fairly certain Mr. Wizard said, during the lineup reveal stream, that he has no qualms with developers/publishers supporting their own games because the money goes to charity anyways.

It gets addressed at 1:14:40 in the stream. His response was "Hey, you know what, it all goes to a good cause. [...] Don't ask me to police that stuff because it's all going to a good cause." Sounds like he'd rather leave it to the fans, though.

I could've sworn I remember Lord Wizard saying he didn't want that. I remember Koogy asked if he could donate and the Cannon bros. were kinda iffy on it but eventually decided to let him. So who really knows. The important thing is it is going to a good cause, and that's what counts.

Ponder went on twitter a couple of days later and said that devs/publishers weren't allowed to donate.

I heavily doubt any other community is in the running to get their game into Evo. It's either Melee or SG.

I thought they were aiming for 24? Can't set your expectations too high.

To all skullgirls fans: I never intended that post to be received the way it was, and I apologize if I offended your community.

It was meant as a joke and in good fun, but I wasn't aware of all the history there as it clearly touched a nerve.

I thought a little salt would liven things up, and, well... it did that, just not in the way I expected. And I sincerely apologize.

Smash ahead by ~$1200 now.

The whole point of these is to gauge community interest and motivation for these games. Corporate donations are directly counter to that. Not that there's a risk with Smash for that, Nintendo doesn't give a fuck.

Could've seen WB or Sony investing a bit into this, but the numbers are probably too high now anyway.

I feel bad for laughing.

Too late, now 24 people have a grudge against you.

I see what you did there.

I see what you did there.

Sorry ;)

In all seriousness though I'm looking forward to the next skullgirls donation event. I think the irony is that these couple of nights may do more for the game and future efforts then actually being at EVO will. If of course it is anything like the first.

I'll throw a couple more dollars into the ring.

if SG can get more than 300 entrants at EVO I would be surprise and 300 is the "low-side" of evo entrants.

I can see 4 games not drawing 300 at EVO this year- KOF, MK, SFxTK, and Persona. (Persona I can see getting 300 if BBCS isn't out, or even if it is, it's simple enough that it will draw the highest of the 4 games)
