EVO 2K13 Player's Choice: Donate money to breast cancer and get your favorite game in

Oh man, the last few posts have been so nuts, I don't know who to root for between Skullgirls and Melee. They're both hype as fuck to me tho.

This is so cool.

I see you've forgotten about that second SRK hit.

I see you've forgotten about The Knee™. One does not simply trade with The Knee™.

At the end they should let both win. The fans of both games tried there best for a good course, having a "loser" would really be a shame =/

You know, I actually agree with this. After seeing both fan bases put up such a fight and donate so much, I feel like it would still be wrong for SRK to only include one even though that was the rule to begin with.

No, they really shouldn't.
They've got a ton of stuff going on already, there's no reason to waste their resources.

The donation isn't for the game, it's for the charity.
It doesn't matter what individual's intentions are, the crew at Evo are doing this for something good.

Except you need to ask if the ones who are donating are actually fans of the games, or it's a case of "MELEE SUCKS, ANYTHING BUT MELEE IN EVO!!!!" vs "HOW DARE THESE FG NERDS HATE ON NINTENDO!!!!"

I've said it a few times before, but I totally agree with this. Let's see what happens at the end of this week.

What does this have to do with anything going on right now? @_@

I strongly doubt many people are doing that, and if they are, it's because of outbursts like this. :P

Yes, that's why this should not end with a "loser". Its for charity, why not reward both parties with the price. Even just having a short tournament or something like this, would be enough. Just to say "Yeah your all crazy but awesome".

Don't expect any rule changes at the last minute. I certainly don't.

Stop making shit up already. You are having way too much fun with this drive. I see the same thing on SRK from you. I know people like to say that you just talk outta your ass a lot, but goddamn you are on overdrive this month lol.

Then why not reward every single community.
They all donated money.

At the very least, this drive shows that there's some seriously healthy interest in both series. The fact that one is from a smaller dev and one runs entirely on a community that hasn't had dev support in over ten years says a lot.

I think that regardless of who wins, the future still has a chance to be bright for both.

No, it probably doesn't. Not when it comes to tournament play at FGC events. Luckily Skullgirls' and Melee's fates don't depend on that.

if evo is supposed to be for the fighting game community then they should let these two games in since their communities are very passionate.

Because it was there head on head race, which brought much more attention to the charity. It's more about the show, how they created awareness and all the money which came out of this. Both get over the point of craziness, which is why both should become a reward. It would make so much more people happy and this what charity is all about.

Kind of funny that you say that because aren't we constantly questioning the validity of SG's donations? Meaning the source of their income is not from fans of the game, but rather people who just want to troll or keep Smash out. For a game that never had over 100 people(besides last years side tourney at EVO), where did all this money come from? We've seen Smash players show up in droves. I bet Apex from last year(don't know this years numbers) had more total Smash players than SG did all of 2012 when you add up all the Majors from last year that it was featured in.

I dunno why this would be beyond their expectations.
They raised over $40k in 4 days last year, and it's been almost a month for around $60k.

Awesome Games Done Quick got $430k in a week.

Oh. Don't be so sour. SG's going to get patched on 360, and likely get a PC release. I think it's a hugely untapped market, especially at SG's pricepoint. The series itself has a lot of potential. It has a chance to get back on it's feet. I think it will be a slow growth, but still growth.

As for Smash Bros, a new one is on the way, and depending on how it's directed, it could breathe new life into the series, or at least bring interest back to the general gaming population (Which is where all new blood for Melee and the fan-projects come from, albeit slowly). Isn't Namco in charge of QA? Who knows what Sakurai will do with the game. :S

I did say a "chance", yo.

It's future does lie in the PC release and a Japanese release. EVO is just an extra thing that'd be great to have, but without EVO? No tournament play. Luckily a JP release and PC release means that hit can be taken. It's the same thing with BlazBlue. It wilted at tournaments stateside, but went on to do great in Japan and had a healthy online scene for 2+ years. Managed to ship 1.8 million WW so that is a feather in their cap too.

The second best thing about this event are these fundraiser streams. Kyle Herbert as the voice of Ryu telling Fanatiq that he likes Infrit over him in a FT15 has me in tears at 3:43AM EST. :lol

Someone needs to donate and have one of the VAs shout out "Call Kotaku, and get this man a shirt!"

I don't know if I want Peacock or DBZ announcer to do it though. :lol

Yeaaaaah. I agree.

In the meantime I'll be cripplingly optimistic about it.

A PC release isn't going to magically propel SG into the stratosphere.

There are plenty of other games under those 2 to which you might apply the term.

It's kinda sad to see this so polarized between 2 games with little hope for a change at this point - wasn't there sone rumor that next year 2 games might get voted on? That'd be interesting, and make it less likely to have votes against something, as is claimed some of SG's are.
