I'm out, this is the time when Superman trolls enter the thread once they see it's near the top of the page. Have fun guys! I can't take reading the absurd posts.

Nic Cage in a green BatSuperman suit smh

I understand the necessity of a secret identity.

I think it stems from the origins - what will everyone think of this super powered alien? Will they accept him, or will they want to experiment on him? And if its the latter, it means that Ma and Pa Kent lose their only child and in either case they will have a huge media circus around them.

Having a secret identity allows Clark to live two lives - one as a mild manner reporter and another as a messiah-like figure. And it's understandable if he needs a break from being some god-like figure and just be a normal, every day person. It also allows him to connect with humanity, which has always been one of his strongest characteristics.

Now, you can say these are archaic tropes or whatever, but that doesn't mean it's not true. He is not a human who also happens to be a hero - he's an alien who wants to be a human. The only way for this to be true is for him to assume the identity of Clark Kent.

again, this is rote. The point I'm trying to make is that people could attempt to address these problems in new, different ways that would probably end up making Superman a lot more relatable..

...or he could lie.

One option is tried & true, and appeals to the part of us that decieves others w/ our own secrets, whatever our reasons. The other might end up yielding much more creative, relatable, and compelling stories. I'd like to see this movie try the latter for once.

Dropped it after the second issue, hella disapointing coming off making the quinesstial Superman story in years.

Pick it back up. It's fucking stellar. Read the full 16 issue run. The whole thing together is fantastic, and shows a great transitional story from Golden Age Superman to modern Superman.

Any suggestions? I'm having trouble of thinking of ways they could make superman more relatable if they get rid of his human secret identity.

Hmm.. I'll see when it's in trade. So he finished his run yet ?

Last thing and I'm out....

he has one extra sized issue #17 and he's done.

All-star Superman is still better than this work.

I may be way off here but do you hang on SuperHeroHype forum too? Thought I caught someone with the same name. :P

Aye that'll be me. lol I don't post there very often but lurk most of the time since it's a great place to find new news and photos when they show up.

WB might be holding off on a Super Bowl spot but a week from this Friday the big New York Toy Fair kicks off with plenty of Man of Steel stuff expected there.

Also here's the Jor-El ava if anyone wants it..

Close but nope.

And the comic con one was even better.

so dissappointed they didnt play MOS trailer 2 with the comiccon music Journey to the Line music track

Even though the leaked footage quality was all over the place I felt like I was a kid again pretending to fly

It was so moving.
It was basically the same shots as trailer 2 but the audio samples were more uplifiting (didnt have Pa Kent question whether Clark should have saved those people) and the edits were tighter and fit perfectly with the beats.

Anything else paled in comparison

Funny, I mention Toy Fair and Variety just posted this:

Superman doesn't drive an iconic car or sport a belt laden with gadgets, so when it comes to designing merchandise, toymakers haven't had much to play with.
That hasn't dissuaded companies from partnering with Warner Bros. for "Man of Steel," however.

In fact, as it readies to relaunch Superman in theaters this summer, the studio has secured a longer list of licensees around the tentpole than it had for 2006's "Superman Returns." And early demand from retailers for products tied to the June 14 release is on par with that for "The Dark Knight Rises," surprising even executives at the studio, sources close to the deals say

What I don't get is how all of my friends who hate Superman, fucking loves Dragonball.

I'm actually looking forward to this, and a lot of people who swore they would never see a Superman-film, seems to come around because of that first trailer. It was really great.

Still can't convince my dad to see it, we usually go to all the super hero movies. He just hates Superman too much :(. Hell I couldn't even get him to see the Dark Knight Rises even though he loved The Dark Knight. I think Avengers broke him, because it's all he talks about.
He has tons of Thor comics hidden away somewhere.

Art was good but the story was...eh. Worth checking out given it does feature

So did they revise the belt component? It looks like it goes across the front completely now. Please god tell me they did.

Same. My bro and his GF want to see it, they laughed before I showed them the trailer (it shut them both up) cause they have memories of Returns and hated it. Another friend just flat out hates Superman and hated the teaser, but saw the longer trailer and wants to see it now and my mom who could care less about Superman wants to see it cause "Cavill is one attractive man" which icks me the hell out since he's younger than me and can be her son.

I'll be buying a shit ton of toys for my nephew *cough* and myself *cough*

You're not just anyone. One day, you're going to have to make a choice. You have to decide what kind of man you want to grow up to be. Whoever that man is, good character or bad, it's going to change the world.

Maybe.

You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you. They will stumble; they will fall. But eventually, they will join you in the sun. Eventually, you will help them accomplish wonders.

(That Jor-El teaser made me want to be a better person.)

I've dropped after around issue 6, I thought Rags Morales' art looked shaky and awfully rushed and couldn't do the script any justice at all. I had to strain to see what was going on most of the time, leaving the script itself quite disappointing especially when compared to All Star Supes. Did it get better after that, or will I just not like it anyway?

I was wondering why that Amy Adams look felt so similar to Lois on Smallville. It's basically the same top, just unbuttoned. Snyder's one nod to Smallville :P

Adams has the "no-nonsense" Lois Lane reporter look down.

Mattel makes some shittttttty ass action figures other than their movie masters line ( wait those are the movie masters... fail hard Mattel). Damn those are awful lol

Gotta see The Watchmen again soon.
I didn't follow the comic/graphic novel, but I was fascinated by the portrayal of Dr. Manhattan.
Always felt that had some dark elements in it that could relate to Supes (i.e. the emotional weight of so much power, the loneliness of immortality, etc.) and thought that would be worth exploring, especially considering Superman is constantly labeled a 'boring superhero'. Those types of issues make him far from boring to me, but I've never seen them portrayed to a deep enough extent in film/TV form.

Then again, maybe that's the "dark, emo" Superman that no one really wants? :p

Fuck the Mattel shit, I'm excited by that Lego box and what it's showing.

I can't think of any kid who wants a Russel Crowe figure

it will be the 'Bob the Goon' figure of this era.

No kid will ask for it, but every kid will get it.

I remember getting this son of a bitch instead of Batman for my birthday. Instead of Batman! Christ, my parents must have hated me.
