EVO 2K13 Player's Choice: Donate money to breast cancer and get your favorite game in

I wouldn't call someone a dick if they don't want to go to casual meets.

Eh I would after what went down on Bum's stream.

But whatever the case it's clear he has the social edicate of a used condom.

That's simply untrue. He supports Next Level's weeklies in a large capacity.

Weekly tournaments are not equal to casual meets. Hell he even avoids playing casuals when he goes. Like Bum asked him and the dude just straight up ignored him.

I could go on but what is the point the dude is doing a fine job of showing off why he is a dick head on twitter as I type this.

Really just sad all this stuff with the VAs is now over.

We all had so much fun with it, I seriously think we're going to do this again next year, Evo or no.

Just less intensely. Probably just a new poster and a single stream?

The VAs were there for us, but more for breast cancer, so I think they'd do it in a heartbeat.

And now we need to figure out how to take them out to dinner or something and actually pay for it, because we owe them BIG.

It was greatly appreciated man. The stuff you guys pulled off this past month was impressive.

He didn't ignore him. He said he didn't want to go. And he has no reason to.

The stuff he's saying on Twitter is completely stupid though, I agree.

Money to a good cause is money to a good cause regardless of whatever other incentives may push people to give it. I donated some money in AGDQ because something I wanted to see done was an extra challenge, but I wouldn't have done so if it was only for the challenge's sake and the money was going in the runner's pocket. The fact that it was for charity was the main drive, the extra was just a sweetener.

After reading what ChrisG said I do see what he was getting at. That the actual point of raising money took somewhat of a backseat to the end result and not the end result that the focus should be on.

Damn, good shit.

More than exceeded what I thought would be raised, as I'm sure is the case for probably 99% of people. Just echoing what everyone else is saying, but yea, regardless of the motivation, thats money going to cancer research that wouldnt have been before this donation drive. Fuck the reasons.

Gonna look forward to seeing Smash at Evo, should be awesome.

You all did an amazing job. I can't say I really care about skullgirls, but I certainly care now about whatever comes along next.

If the drive was ONLY for cancer research or ONLY to get your game in Evo, it wouldn't have made nearly as much. Really a great idea and I don't get why people have any negative feelings towards the entire thing.

The only negative thing about it is people throwing rocks at each other...

I agree with that. If it was just going into someone's pocket fewer people would donate. Where the money landed (or better said: the altruism of the Cannon bros, since the method would be the same either way) separated this just being a money making scheme.

However consider that "supporting breast cancer research" and "running a tournament which aims to be the world championships" are two very unrelated and different goals and can clash. At least that is more or less what happened with their method here (I could see different ways of doing it that wouldn't make it one or the other, a cut from entry fees or money pot to be given to charity being one of them). Ideally, EVO would make its game choices based on accomplishing its original goal and not use it as a round about way to generate as much funding for breast cancer as possible.

You could say "My duty to society/God/kindness/etc trounces playing stupid videogames". Fair enough. I'm only pointing out that if is support for the game that is getting people to donate (and make no mistake, it is) then it is counter-intuitive not to simply support your game. ChrisG seems to speaking more along the lines of seeing scenes in other areas going unsupported. Maybe he is thinking: "It is amazing that Skullgirls could raise that much money, but why is its scene so dead compared to Melee?" I think that speaks to the "esport" narrative you see people in the FGC bring up time to time: people are putting more time and effort into fighting games as entertainment than competition (or broken down more simply: watching vs playing).

If people can donate all this money and still pay a bunch more money to get to and stay at EVO to actually play the game, then whatever. It is their money. Still dislike the method.

EDIT: I actually feel quite bad for all the Skullgirl fans who could taste its appearance at EVO right up to the end. I really hope the EVO guys do something for them.

SG handle the loss pretty well so I think most people can put aside the bull shit dirt slinging the first couple of weeks.

Hopefully people got Mike's message.

The voice actors were awesome. I know what you're saying, but trust me, I'm sure the voice actors will feel you don't owe them anything at all.

What I got from Mike Z is that melee is a fighting game... and smash community is FGC.

I'm more worried about people around here not treating smash bros right...

Most people here have played some form of Smash to respect it. It's the people on SRK, twitter, and youtube that you should be worried about.

P.S EVO should have made all 8 spots up to the donation drive. Could you imagine the number? No more bull shit "FGC is (insert negative term)".

I assume this is why Tom Cannon has only declared it "the unofficial winner" so far?

I doubt anything funny is actually happening, but the 15k jump in like 30 seconds was pretty staggering.

Well I'd assume they'd need to go and make sure all that was donated were legit donations. Who's #8 is still very in the air.

Have there been any stories on this on any gaming sites?

Unless some real drama kicks off or somebody screams bad touch I highly doubt it.

There's no chance that the EVO guys fuck this up again right? Last time was just... never forgave them for that shit.

Congrats to Melee~ So what're the game's tiers and can I expect Luigi or Kirby in the finals?

Been some time since I checked them but here is the latest one. Some changes since I last looked at it some years ago.

S: Fox, Falco, Jigglypuff, Sheik
A: Marth, Peach, Captain Falcon
B: Ice Climbers
C: Dr. Mario, Ganondorf, Samus
D: Pikachu, Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong
E: Link, Young Link
F: Zelda, Roy, Mewtwo, Yoshi, Mr. Game & Watch
G: Ness, Bowser, Kirby, Pichu

Hope Pimpuigi makes it, guy was a wizard with luigi.

You guys shouldn't be that negative about gaming journalism, I'm pretty sure someone is going to pick up the story... at some point. I mean it's over $200k !

They're letting the community itself handle the tournament, from rules to brackets and the like.

This tier list proves that with the exception of Marvel 3 Viper, I have never once played S tier in any competitive game I've touched ever. I've also always mained someone that was the best of A tier. :lol

Never played S-Tier in my life

You're missing out on life.

I think the only game in my entire life that I didn't play S-tier is.... SF4, and Tekken 5 DR (i didn't count smash cause at the time he was S-tier).

3S = check
CVS2 = check
MVC2 = check
MVC3 = check
UMVC3 = check
ST = check
SG = Check
Smash Melee = A-tier.. close enough well Marth did rule for a period of time.
Tekken 4 = check
Tekken 5 = check
Tekken DR = I fucked up here.
SF4 = semi-check? Balrog was at one point considered top in Super.
SFxT 2012 = check.
