When MS will start again to put out 4/5 AAA exclusive every year from first/second party that are not Halo/ GOW/Forza/Fable.
In the last three years the strategy of MS was ridiculous all based on kinect and unfortunately likely to continue in the next gen according to the rumor discussing a xbox next much weaker than the ps4.
All? No not really, remember there was Halo 4, a new Gears and many of XBLA (read - not PSN) exclusives.
No publisher releases 4/5 AAA games a year exluding their 4 biggest franchises, including Sony and Nintendo. Stop being ridiculous.
It's never going to stop, and wouldn't even if MS were less flighty. There was a short period of $599 and Cell and "OpenGL? We haven't touched that since 2001..." that made the 360 the platform to own in the US for people who like core games, and it brought with it people who wanted that itch scratched and put up with all the other warts just because it was their only option. It's not just a matter of keeping Halo and Gears rolling, to live up to those standards Xbox also needs to be the exclusive home of Bioshock, and Mass Effect, and sim racing in general.
See also: The people who bemoan Nintendo's first-party variety compared to the SNES, tech compared to the N64, or Sony's third-party support compared to PS2.

So the initial rumors of two systems is sounding more true, with the good system having two GPU's and CPU's. Some of the rumors did state that the entire system was designed to be scale-able for the future. That I think would give MS a clear advantage in performance.

Seems like only Sony can over engineer things and keep it in the $599 range.

There were rumors about MS releasing a Xbox Surface.
It's weird that in June last year they would have one type of system and in January 2013 they would have something that is essentially cut in half.
There are a lot of rumors about multiple skus. But then again it seems implausible that developers would be leaking specs that weren't Durango's

I think there was a design with multiple GPUs and CPUs, but they were never equivalent. The idea was to have an ARM SoC for low power operations: media streaming, background downloads, etc, and to generate the overlays that could appear with notifications, tickers and transmedia applications during gameplay or videos. So you'd have a powerful CPU/GPU that ran the games, and a much weaker CPU/GPU for other stuff that didn't add anything to the games. This is straight out of the 2010 Presentation Leak.

I can't see 2 power distinct nextgen xboxes. That would be too confusing for consumption of software.
There may be 2 skus, perhaps one with hdmi in and another without. Not everyone needs to run a cable box through the system. But that's as far as it would go in my opinion, otherwise you'd get software developed for the lowest common denominator to get more penetration.
As far as the multiple layer rendering, I'd wager it's purpose is as;
- An o/s overlay which includes the guide, Skype etc. picture in picture for the Hdmi in.
- a second screen eg. your tablet, etc. For illumiroom (which im excited about - the immersion of being enveloped in the gaming spectacle will be something to behold) and lastly for arguments reality glasses which will be sold as a peripheral at some stage.
This hardware paves a path to these possibilities by making the software implementation trivial

As I recall that rumour was entirely fabricated to catch websites out for spreading unsubstantiated bullshit though.

Actually, I imagine the multiplane hardware will be extremely useful for handling any HDMI input or DVR capabilities. The system will have no control over the format or resolution of the image it recieves that way, unlike game software, apps or the OS, so a bit of hardware that can automatically composite it in with the rest of the image for picture in picture, overlays, etc, would be very handy. Come to think of it, that could well be the primary reason it's there.

Don't know if it's all a fake.
That was the tablet not the SKU. There has been pretty consistent rumors and leaks about two consoles, one focused on media consumption (and maybe apps) that I'd a subset of the hardware in the primary console.
Paul Thurott keeps bringing this up too, so I'm fairly sure its true

No it is not a rule GOW/Halo/Forza/Fable are beautiful but MS can not rely only on the sequel as it has done since 2009.
5/6 new exclusive IP AAA are needed and I hope to see them on the next xbox.

So then... what with Edge's developer contacts stating that the PS4 is more powerful, do we now think that a lot of this talk of secret aspects to the Durango hardware has been massively overblown?
I'm aware that one of the developers here has stated that they were pretty much equal (which would have inferred that there really was some sort of aspect we weren't seeing), but now I'm wondering if perhaps that was based on older hardware or perhaps an overly powerful dev kit?

Fable Reboot would be great. A mix of Fable 1 & 2 would be ideal. They have been trying to push Fable as the MS version of Zelda for years and years, just make good on it now.
Sounds like something from the year 2005.

I'm sure there's those that disagree but I had more fun with Fable 2 than I have with the VAST majority of Zelda games but played a couple hours of Fable 3 and never picked up up again....sad :-(

Well I guess MS could break the tradition and be the first and only console to ever just do sequels and have 0 new ip's ever. Or they could do as everyone has done in every generation ever and have new IP's, especially in the first 3-4 years. We will see for sure.
If they do go against every single generation for any hardware maker ever and just do sequels or games based in the same world they deserve failure.
Anyone any hardware maker would deserve failure for that.
