EVO 2K13 Player's Choice: Donate money to breast cancer and get your favorite game in

Melee raised nearly 100 grand alone? Wow... spirit bomb indeed. It's really heartwarming to see fighting game players come together like this. Hopefully the salt can subside and no one will pull any of their money.

I'm not gonna lie, going to my first Evo this year and Melee will be at it... I'm pretty stoked.

If I didn't know better, I'd sadly say a good chunk of those are going to come back..especially off the top 3.

Skullgirls donators charge back donations and still claim voice acting lessons

Hahaha oh man...

It is nice to see how the two different fundraising campaigns went. Smash was all community, no incentives, just pure large. Skullgirls was not unlike a full Kickstarter campaign with lots of goals and whatnot.

And if the ST donation is potentially of dubious origin, I would not be shocked if the crazy 15k snipe near the end there had some odd plate on it too (considering that's the dagger). Good that they're verifying everything.

Man, it's been said and shown already, but damn there are some people really upset that Melee won...

I just hope everyone gives Smash a fair shake and watch top 8. If you've already seen it before and still don't like it, that's fine, you don't have to tune in or whatever. But if you've never seen it before, give it a chance. Upsets for that game are so huge and if any upsets happen at Evo, maaan the top 8 will be unbelievably hype.

I don't remember that. I remember PS: All-Stars getting one. Was the exhibition on the main stage/stream? 'cause that's what MLP was going to get if it won.

Never mind

It was a publisher sponsored side tournement

No idea if it was on mainstage/stream. I didn't watch it lol

Yeah people seem really hateful towards melee. I don't understand it

90% of the hatred I've seen towards Melee seem to be basing the entire community on M2K's gross actions and behavior, claiming that Apex equipment thefts were Smash fans descending upon the event like a marauding horde (note that Apex used to be a Smash-only event and that was the first time anything like that has ever happened), and friend-of-a-friend stories about the Brawl EVO 2008 winning getting bullied out of his prize money, a story that conveniently nobody has a source for.

All this just goes to show that Smash is still a mega-franchise. I know it's been said before but TAKE NOTE, SAKURAI

How crazy would it be to have Nintendo reveal a character for the new Smash at EVO.

That would be sick. If they listen to any input from Namco at all and don't just tell the coding minions what to do, it could be possible.

I have a feeling though that all the same people are directing/coordinating the game, and Namco just provided a bunch of artists and code monkeys to create it.

We have an expert here about conspiracy issue, he probably knows what's up.

I don't know whether to thank you, backhandedly do the same or pull out my Sarcasm Doesn't Exist On The Internet Meter.

However, Wiz & The Illuminati have to confirm every last cent. Not just only to cover their own asses but to make sure that the game that truly earned that spot gets it and make sure that the money finds its way to where it belongs.

Exactly. Are we going to browbeat them for doing what basically amounts to due diligence / verifying everything? It's best for everyone that they're doing it this way. Kudos to them.

The only thing I would've done differently would've been to hide the total donation amounts; it would've prevented the hype and probably gotten less donations though, so it was likely for the best that it was all public.

That being said, if a game other than Smash (I'm assuming SG here due to being 2nd) ends up getting the spot because of a fraudulent donation, I think the world will freaking collapse.

Well if the world shall burn, let it. That would be the consequence of someone's horrible decision making and with that you get what you deserve.

As much as I'm not the biggest fan of Skullgirls, it should have gotten in. At least one chance at the Evo spotlight.

But Melee's cool as long as people actually show up. This is their one big chance to be legit again.

top 7 games all turn out to be 99% fraudulent, melty blood for evo confirmed

Skullgirls had their panel/exhibition tournament last year
Pretty sure that was a (large) side tourney and not anything officially part of the EVO lineup.

It'd be cool if they ran like Top 3 of Skullgirls on the main stage because of how much they raised from the donation drive.

Also I'm kinda disappointed nobody raised $13 for SCV at the last moment.

It wasn't directed at you, but at another gaffer who said that the ST donation was the work of Sony/Capcom to prevent Melee from getting the spotlight since they are competitors (which doesn't make any sense).

I think that would be totally unfair to the work that everyone did, not just the smash community. To have potentially one person put controversy into something that should really be an incredible achievement is both garbage... And knowing the FGC, possible.

WHAT A TWIST
All those games... Banned from EVO forever. Divekick/Injustice/MLP aren't even out yet!

You'd be surprised at how 1 person doing something in the FGC can muck up the works. History.

Unfortunately, I'm very aware of most of those... Not a lot of the recent ones, but from 04-07 I've got a good grasp of it.

Either way, even in the extremely minute possibility of that occurring, this is still an incredible amount of money raised for charity. That's what really matters, to me anyway.

If anyone has a polygon account, feel free to directly quote what I said earlier. I think it may distract everyone from the misogyny conversation.

And I think it's fair to call my comment far-fetched, but not illogical. The money donated by an offshoot of a large corporation would initially get past the first wall and register on the paylist. It would then get reviewed shortly after. I understand the probability is slim, but that is what would happen.

And it's really the only theory that was presented, at the time. I'm more inclined to think the reviewable money from ST probably got shifted to Super Arcade now.

Anyway, I guess throwing ideas out there is frowned upon so I'll try to keep some thoughts to myself from now on. Lest I be called crazy.

Mr. Wizard let Smash win so he could embarrass them by giving them a Saturday morning grand finals. 8 am. This way he can blame them for not showing up and never invite them again.

I just want to say how proud I am of everyone right now.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think we'd reach these numbers.

GG Skullgirls. You guys and gals have my eternal respect. Really gave us a fight. I hope EVO lets us both in. What a battle.
