There are a handful of games where I liked it because it made sense but 90% of the time it was utter shit and I switched to regular controls whenever available. The 2 screens were much more interesting IMO.
So yeah, fuck touch on consoles.
If one of them went 3rd party then you wouldn't have to worry about buying two machines for exclusives.
Two very similar machines rubs me the wrong way.
Competition is good but there's no innovation here.
Yeah sure implementation of features is one thing but you'd figure there'd be more of a difference in hardware features.
Go beyond the hardware and the OSes seem identical...both multitask and record video and have all these built in social networking gizmos...both will have a fully functioning OS along side the games with no performance drops.
Last time around having Bluray was a big advantage for Sony. They were the king of hardware innovation and pushed the technology envelope. Now we have a PC in a box and that isn't much different than what MS does.

The only time i thought concave analogs work are when they are in the asymmetrical location, even then i'd still prefer a convex analog in the right analog position (or the dukes rights stick cuz that thing was the bomb). Concave in the left analog asymmetrical position is definitely better though.
If you put concave analogs in a symmetrical location they feel awkward.

I'm with you on that. I want to look at my tv, not the controller to do something I could do while pressing a button. Same goes for gestures for motion controls.

I agree. I hope they learned from the Vita (though back touch, similarly disassociated) that there isn't a ton of good applications for it even in theory. Gimmicks, sure. That's it, though.

Hopefully the rumors are true. System level videos is one of the features I've been hoping would show up on a next gen console.
Why are you assuming that?
It sounds to me like they're putting what amounts to a laptop's touchpad in the middle of the controller. That makes sense with their big new social media connectivity/posting setup because I don't see Facebook, Youtube, etc. redesigning their interfaces around the PS4 and navigating websites with an analog stick is jank as hell.
If Sony thought this was going to be a big in-game feature it wouldn't be replacing the two buttons that are intentionally place furthest from game-relevant buttons. I'd imagine it'll see about as much in-game implementation as the select and start buttons themselves.
I love the idea of the share button but the touch pad I'm not quite sold on. Will it be easy to use in the flow of a game? I'm holding my dual shock and trying to reach over the analogs with my thumbs to touch where this pad would be. Seems a little odd but its probably more redesigned than that. I was hoping for an actual touchscreen.

I just hope Sony don't allow developers to block it like they can with screenshots on Vita.
My thoughts. Really not interested at looking down at my controller when playing a game on my TV. At all.
A pad should be fine though, as long as it isn't forced like the early batch of PS3 games.

I am sure someone said this, but he share button could simply be an updated PS Button. Simply press the PS Button we all have now, and it brings up a menu where you can share or upload your video. It doesn't necessarily mean it is a physical button. It could be a "button" or a selection from the menu that pops up when you press the PS Button.
I think having an exclusive SHARE button is overkill. Just make it part of the menu when you press the PS Button.

I can't even think of a proper non gimmicky usage for touchscreen that can't be replicated by buttons other then scribbling and gestures.
Both are pointless to me. Just give me back triggers like the N64, Vita's D-Pad, and make the controller a bit taller and wider.
Yeah Im having the same problem imagining a practical use for it other than stuff thats been done on Vita.
As a mouse for web browsing could be pretty useful, other than that, I don't know.

They should have made it bigger/redesigned and found a way to fit the touchpad below the analog sticks... Something like this:

Gesture control and a cursor would be nice for OS features. In games, it could be as simple as a "fine adjust" on the right analog stick, for precision aiming as opposed to panning the camera over large distances.

I been playing iphone games and some DS games and I don't see the use of it other then poking, scribbling, and gestures. It doesn't bring anything significant to controls. I'd rather have it out and keep the cost of the console down.
Sure you can use it as a menu, but you're looking down at the controller; I can press start and just look at the menu on the tv and not look away. It's counter productive. Maybe it can be useful for sports games making plays I admit and rts games, but rts games require tons of commands and hotkeys. For other genres it's pretty pointless.
Touch screen doesn't bring much or anything at all to the table. I would argue that motion controls brings much more to the table.
In all likelihood, we're not talking about a touch screen, but rather a touch pad like the Ouya controller or the back of the Vita.

Those extra two face buttons would be very easy to press accidentally, kinda like the OG Xbox1 controller, no bueno. I say if its gonna have six face buttons make it like the Saturn pad. Other than that though not too bad.What i hope to see:

Yeah and it won't be distracting at all, just another method of input. People won't have to take their eyes off of their TV and it will be easy to get used to using.
Will be great for browsing and other media features.

Touch seems unnecessary to me. I don't recall ever playing a game where I thought to myself, "Gee, I wish I had a touch screen to do this." Meh.
