EA has been screwing up pretty bad with their Wii U support thus far. Not sure I'd take today's announcement as gospel that it isn't coming though. I wouldn't be even vaguely surprised if it showed up elsewhere a bit later, maybe at a Nintendo playable event, similar to what happened with ME3.
Yeah, im sure the ping of Ubisoft, Activision and other third parties wouldnt suffer compared to EA's. smh
It's not just games they stopped carrying in the move, I can understand that even if it's a shit move on their part. But no, they put NWN2 back up... then pulled it down again when they stopped selling it.
I don't see the point of holding the announcement for later, though. Unless Nintendo is controlling all 3rd party announcements?
As far as I know, it was just some rumor that people like to perpetuate as true.
I get the capitalistic idea that they are making games to make money... and you make money on systems with a bigger install base. Would porting Dead Space 3 to the Wii U make them a lot of money? I have no idea. I don't even know if it would break even. So from a purely financial standpoint at this very moment in time it makes sense. Kinda.
But I think they (and others) are missing the big picture. It's certainly not EA's job to make a console succeed, but they definitely benefit from it. If the Wii U is a hit they can sell more games on it. So they *should* have a vested interest in helping it get there. But so much of free market capitalism is purely about making more money this year than you did last year. You are rarely thinking about NEXT year.
It's just a shitty precedent. What if everyone thought this way? All of the new systems came out but publishers only sold games on the 360 and PS3 because of install base. Someone has a great idea for a handheld game that would work perfectly on the Vita but shoehorns it onto just the 3DS simply because there are more 3DS's in the world.
I'm not asking for these companies to stop caring about making money - that is their primary function. I just wish they could see the forest for the trees.
That was a gamefaqs rumor. Why the fuck would you believe that and the idea of Nintendo trying to court activision and others successfully if it were the case? And all just because Nintendo refused to let EA run their entire online system.
Silly out of touch Nintendo
How is that different from any other Western publisher?
Don't think for a minute EA and other large companies like Take 2 don't know this and know that they are partly responsible for building up an audience for their games on a given platform. This isn't about install base. This is about either online profit potential/profit sharing or some other business decision based on something only a few know.

It's not exactly a wacky possibility. Nintendo has shown themselves to be pretty oblivious when it comes to third parties and online.
Dreamcast 2.0.
Nope. I would say its more of a Gamecube right now anyway.
Dreamcast 2.0.
EA trying to Dreamcast the Wii U.
In one of the other EA threads, Arkam mentioned that there are more EA Wii U projects down the line.

This probably just meant they didn't really care to say anything right now. So for Madden it's probably like what I was predicting, they'll just throw it out there and not really expect people cared enough to have it brought up this early on.In one of the other EA threads, Arkam mentioned that there are more EA Wii U projects down the line.
Why people keep singling out EA makes no sense.
Their were a grand total of 0 retail Wii U games released for January.
February only has two, Rayman Legends and Fist of the North Star.
If more people talked about Black Ops 2 being $30 at amazon or Warriors Orochi 3 being $30 at gamestop then maybe 3rd parties would announce new games for the system!

Heh, just a joke that DC got zero EA support from day 1, too. Gamecube got that at least, right?Nope. I would say its more of a Gamecube right now anyway.
Didn't Arkham say in a thread over the past few days that EA definitely has games coming to Wii U?
Gamefly. Sorry we don't sell those games you bought anymore so you're not allowed to redownload them.
Also Digital River charged for the ability to redownload.
Besides Dead Space 3 and Crysis 3, what else are they publishing at the moment?

Fuse.
I'd put money on a new NFS.
Madden/NHL (duh)
Army of Two (lol)

Is it worth it for them to invest into Wii U ports? From a business point of view, most likely not.

Same could be said for the upcoming systems as well....
I don't doubt this, but if they have My Little Pony Adventures coming for the Wii U that's still support, though not what most of us would actually buy. They will have games coming, but probably nothing any of us would care about. And no yearly installment games coming is telling.

It is completely fucking crazy for EA to suggest it and to Nintendo to even consider it.
