What's wrong with the pack? I bought this on BF but have yet to watch them. I hope your angry because of a hate for pt. III. I've never seen pt. iii and never plan to.

you've got me worried I bought a shitty transfer or somethin'

I think he was complaining either about posting while watching or the God Father bit (or maybe both :P).

Edit: beaten! lol.

Saw Batman Returns yesterday.
Some things better stay in your childhood memory, is all i'll say.

Catwoman and Penguin were boss though, easily the best part of the movie.
I was kind of baffled how many obvious continuity errors and such there were, like they didn't give a fuck.

Things change.

Saw Mr & Mrs Smith. So bad.

I was so underwhelmed by this movie when I saw it years ago, but everyone I've ever talked to seems to love it.

Also, thanks to the talk in here I now want to see Once Upon a Time in Anatolia.

Can you guys recommend any good (or bad) horror movies that deal a lot with lighting and shadows for the scares? I need some inspiration for my graduation thesis xD

Nosferatu, Dr. Caligari, the Barrymore Dr. Jekyll—a lot of silent horror movies in general (not to forget Faust and Nibelungen).

Watched Life of Pi. What I knew about it beforehand was "There's a dude on a boat in the middle of the sea and he tries to reach land. There's also a tiger. Hijinks ensue."

Not expecting much more than a funtime adventure story made that ending completely amazing.

I watched it last week. The 3d accompanies the movie so well. Having read the book I still wasn't ready for it. The ending is perfectly acted.

Saw these two for the first time yesterday

In Bruges: absolutely amazing
Alien: also amazing. I don't know why I've been ignoring that series for so long, probably going to watch Aliens/Alien 3 sometime this weekend.

Alien and Aliens are two totally different beasts, each amazing in their own right.

val lewton has been getting a bit of love here lately. there's a recent doc on him partly produced by scorsese that's worth your time. lots of good italian stuff from the 60s/70s/80s like bava and argento would fit what you're looking for. dreyer's Vampyr too. hopefully some other guys can chime in and get you further than the first week of film school answers given so far

Just watched Winter's Bone. Hope I never find myself in the Ozarks. I'll likely be dead within minutes.

I also just watched Back to the Future II for the first time. I saw the first one for the first time about a month ago. How the hell have I gone so long without seeing these? Actually 2 got kind of goofy, but it was still fun. I love and hate time travel so so so so much.

I am watching Sandler's "That's My Boy". Yes I am an Adam Sandler fan from yesterday.

Jack and Jill was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Now right away the voice Sandler decides to use in this movies just sucks. I thought maybe it was the voice of Jill from his previous movie for a minute.

Here I thought this movie maybe a good one of his going back to his stupid self that made his first few movies good. But instead he just looks like he is trying to hard.

Nosferatu or Cabinet of Dr. Caligari?

Nosferatu, Dr. Caligari, the Barrymore Dr. Jekyll—a lot of silent horror movies in general (not to forget Faust and Nibelungen).

It's not a very good example (1920s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), but it's all I could think of, lol.

The Happening.

Thanks, I'll check those out! :D (The Happening must be a joke right? Haven't seen it)

90)Greedy 1994

rewatch, decent movie. michael j. fox characters grandfather sets up his family into thinking he is broke to see who really cares for him

91)Super High Me 2007

Thought this would be more interesting, basically this comedian stops smoking for 30 days and then smokes like crazy for 30 days. meh movie, could of had a lot of potential

92)Jeff, Who lives at home 2011

Funny how Jason Segals characters brother wrecked his brand new Porsche, its was ok

93)Big Doll House 1971

watched because of that filipino documentary i just watched. pretty sure "get it up or i'll cut it off" is one the greatest lines ever.

94)Dirty Work 1998

95)Crazy People 1990

eh plot but watchable just for the lol ad campaigns

96)Ferris Bueller's Day Off 1986

Edit; Crazy People was the last movie of January. So I watched 95 movies in January, 1 being a short. So 94 feature length and 1 36 min short. Not bad, If only I had a job atm It wouldnt be that high.

Ruthless (Ulmer)

For a movie made on Poverty Row, this had more ambitious production values than The Maltese Falcon. How funny, then, that Sydney Greenstreet should stop by and give a good performance!
I like it quite a bit. Swoon recommended this to me after I heard about its upcoming Olive BD, and it just happened to be on Netflix Instant raring to go. Zachary Scott puts in an interesting performance that fits his character quite well, not to detract from the other two stars—nor Greenstreet himself. Everything works except the ending, which disappoints me the more I think about how it ties the whole story up. ***/**

For most people... but don't be surprised if you end up not caring for Aliens when you compare it to Alien either.

Fair point. If you changed the characters' names and the look of the monsters, some might not even see a correlation. They're that different from one another tonally.

Saw Les Miserables. I really wanted to like this, but I found it disappointing. I don't think musicals where the whole dialogue is sung is my thing (not that it hurts the movie much). My two main problems were the look (the cinematography really wasn't very good), and that it feels like the movie rushes through stuff way too fast (it prevents emotional impact). I didn't care for the live singing either, I think I prefer prerecorded instead (at least until it's done better). The acting was hit and miss (that kid), Hathaway was very good and will still probably win the Oscar, but I thought she overdid it (I felt similar about Jackman). Eddie Redmayne was in my opinion the most likable, subtle, and the best overall. That guy had so much charisma in this movie. I liked the girl who played Eponine a lot too. Oh, and poor Russell, but he just wasn't meant for this. 6/10

Edit: I did tear up a bit during Empty Chairs.

Just saw City Lights. What a wonderful movie. So funny, and incredibly touching (that ending had me weeping). It was as close to perfect as can be. 10/10

Edit: great use of sound too.

I was not a fan of Warm Bodies. It has an interesting concept and ideas, but it's only mildly amusing. It has a nice heart, but with painfully obvious musical choices, not-so-great performances and pretty standard structure, it's only a rental at best.

Must be, lol. You haven't seen Dr Caligari or Nosferatu yet? Fantastic silent films, Nosferatu is specially good with the shadows.
Dr Caligari, never heard of it actually :) I've seen the german Nosferatu that had to be burned due to copyright issues. I assume that's the one? :) Must've seen that one 4 times now. Time for a fifth I suppose!

I finally picked up the Ashes of Time Redux blu-ray recently, and I watched it this week. I'm glad to finally be able to watch a version of the film which doesn't look like a 5th generation bootleg. It's unfortunate that even with the restoration it's clear that some of the stock and original materials for certain scenes were not in the best of conditions, but still a very beautiful film.

I like the new(?) format in Redux where the movie is split in to seasons instead. I don't recall this from the original, but I don't really want to put in my R3 DVD again to check it out because I might go blind. Either way, I felt that narratively the film feels stronger than when I first watched it, although that might also be an effect of the video and audio not being garbage this time round. Certainly a very unique entry in Wong Kar Wai's filmography, and it's something I definitely would watch again when I'm in the right mood.

The Last of the Mohicans DC - Loved the production design, setting & DDL. Didn't care much for the story or the characters themselves. ***½
Wreck-It Ralph - Not as funny as I hoped it would be, still enjoyable. ***
The ABCs of Death - A horror anthology of 26 shorts, each for one letter of the alphabet all directed by different directors. As one might expect when hearing this, it's a mixed bag. There are some fun(ny), gorey, scary and downright good shorts in there but unfortunately they are outweighed by lesser ones and stinking turds. Overall it was a okay watch. **
The Master - Phoenix is phenomenal, as is the overall production and PTA's direction. The themes and the relation between Phoenix and Hoffman were great. Masterful (ahue) cinema and my personal movie of the year (sorry Django). I'll be rewatching this a lot. *****

Agreed, these were my two main gripes with the movie as well.

pff you just think he's sexy.
(rightfully so)

saw snow while and the huntsmen. It was not very good.
And yet it is nominated for 2 oscars! (lol)

fantastic film 4.5/5 . Nuri Bilge Ceylan surprised me gonna check out his other films

it's one of a kind, but can anyone recommend me movies that are kind of similar in structure to Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind? Memento, Vanilla Sky come to my mind.

Other Charlie Kaufman movies. Adaptation, Being John Malkovich. Synecdoche, New York if you really want to (you don't).

I hated Synechdoche, New York the first time I saw it, but after a re watch It's one of the most heart wrenching movies I've ever seen. There's some intensely depressing portion's in that movie.

I've been on a Billy Wilder kick the last couple of days. I watched The Apartment and Double Indemnity, and I absolutely loved both of them. Are there any other movies of his I should check out? I've seen Sunset Blvd and Some Like It Hot, so some movies besides those would be cool. Maybe Stalag 17...?

Immortals. I've never seen Henry Cavill in anything before this, but I have to say I can completely see him as Superman after watching this - even more hyped for Man of Steel.

I enjoyed the film. Nothing spectacular (visually it's very nice) and I'm not a fan of Mickey Rourke (in most things I see him in if I'm honest) but it's a lot of fun to watch and Freida Pinto is GORGEOUS.

(This is why I don't write many reviews. I should just stick to thumbs up/down).

*thumbs up*

Ace in the Hole
Witness for the Prosecution
One, Two, Three
The Lost Weekend
Sabrina

All are pretty great; and vary in terms of tone and settings.

Dredd. I rather liked this movie. It's like a cyberpunk Die Hard, except the cop is a professional who doesn't have much of a face (and doesn't need one) and a girl who can read minds. The SlowMo effects were great too.
