Just finished the second episode. It's okay so far. Some of the policy discussion feels a little simplistic, but that can be forgiven. At first Spacey's monologues were a turn off, but I'm beginning to warm to them.

They get better, and they're not as intrusive as in the first episode. I'll agree the policy discussion is super simple.

The show's tone can be really offputting in a very intriguing way. I almost wish this was like some pseudo-paranormal show.

does he talk to the camera all the time? I hate this technique in movies/shows. Just started but don't think I could stomach that for too long

Saw the first episode, it's pretty good. I love the way kevin spacey talks directly to the camera, will continue to watch.

Mediahint. Amazing extension that lets you access US stuff with very high speeds. Also free.

Man media hint is awesome thank you for mentioning it!

Ahahahaha! Episode 4 callout...

"Is that a PSVita?"

Vita is saved!

EDIT: Beaten, but at least I am following the spoiler tag rule, and I'm glad I didn't read about it beforehand.

It's not even hatewatchable for me. Could be mostly because of the source material, but the writers don't seem to be interested in going for broke. And that's a big disappointment when a main character is as ripe for that treatment as Spacey's. There's definitely value in subtlety, but this show wants to have its cake and eat it too. I think I'd prefer it to go unhinged.

It was love at first sight with me and this reporter lady oh my lord.

No really who is she and what is this voodoo power she has over me.

Just finished season 1. Damn, this show is intense; Kevin Spacey's acting is immaculate, and the plot really comes together towards the end in a way I did not foresee. Great start to a new series...

Finished up through Episode 4 now.

I like it, I'll keep watching it. But some of the plot points and character behavior seems kinda weird. Like, everything happens too perfectly and it doesn't feel natural sometimes.

I wont nitpick it too much, though.

Zoe is my new celebrity crush, too. God damn.

Chapter 8:
halfway through and almost nothing has actually happened, with Underwood at least. Kevin Spacey stumbling around dunk is great though. Holy shit is he about to have sex with this dude or am I reading this scene way wrong.

Russo you so stupid

I was trying to understand the meaning of what they talked about as well. I was leaning to that conclusion

hahaha I loved episode 8. I don't think you're reading the scene wrong. Though (ep 8)
he mentions hazing and all that fun stuff that comes with college (hinting at a past encounter, probably), I think it's less about the homoeroticism now than it is about how relieved he is to be away from it all. (And his wife.) He sees his lost humanity, innocence, etc. in his best friend.

Who's the actress who plays her?
Just looked it up Kristen Connolly

Just finished episode 8
and yeah I got that vibe too. It appeared that spaceys character had a some kind of relationship with his friend in college. I thought it was kind of weird when spacey grabbed his hand and put it on his heart when they were laying down

Yeah, and I think it's pretty interesting
that (so far at least) he hasn't had to talk to the audience at all from what I remember. First episode we get to see him actually have fun. Between this and Russo rolling around fighting with his old friend though it's hilariously homoerotic at times. And it wasn't even one of Schumacher's episodes.

Unless it was in the original/comes up later as a plot point I'm kind of wondering if Spacey was just having fun with the viewers, since he's an executive producer too and there've been so many rumors over the years that he's gay.

Im sorry but i fail to see how the policy discussion being too simple is a bad thing. Within the context of the enviroment and the characters in play, wouldnt it make sense for them to discuss and relay policy to others that seemed simple? With this being my first political drama I feel it works out just fine. I get the impression they wanted to keep it simple so it wouldn't be too distracting from the main plot.

yeah, I loved getting to see Frank actually (ep 8)
smile for the first time. Like, not a conniving, sinister smile. But a legitimately warm smile. Great moment. And I think you're right about breaking the fourth wall; we were the proxy for that dude (whose name I forget). Now, we're all he has left.

I hope the wife's charity stuff either ties in closer or stops soon. Maybe I'm missing something but it's kinda boring. I mean I get that it's saying this shit is the same everywhere but come on.

Episode 2 spoilers I guess.
