It's not even hatewatchable for me. Could be mostly because of the source material, but the writers don't seem to be interested in going for broke. And that's a big disappointment when a main character is as ripe for that treatment as Spacey's. There's definitely value in subtlety, but this show wants to have its cake and eat it too. I think I'd prefer it to go unhinged.

Just finished season 1. Damn, this show is intense; Kevin Spacey's acting is immaculate, and the plot really comes together towards the end in a way I did not foresee. Great start to a new series...
Finished up through Episode 4 now.
I like it, I'll keep watching it. But some of the plot points and character behavior seems kinda weird. Like, everything happens too perfectly and it doesn't feel natural sometimes.
I wont nitpick it too much, though.

halfway through and almost nothing has actually happened, with Underwood at least. Kevin Spacey stumbling around dunk is great though. Holy shit is he about to have sex with this dude or am I reading this scene way wrong.

hahaha I loved episode 8. I don't think you're reading the scene wrong. Though (ep 8)
he mentions hazing and all that fun stuff that comes with college (hinting at a past encounter, probably), I think it's less about the homoeroticism now than it is about how relieved he is to be away from it all. (And his wife.) He sees his lost humanity, innocence, etc. in his best friend.
Being that skinny is why she's able to look so svelte at 47 years. Worth it.

Yeah, and I think it's pretty interesting
that (so far at least) he hasn't had to talk to the audience at all from what I remember. First episode we get to see him actually have fun. Between this and Russo rolling around fighting with his old friend though it's hilariously homoerotic at times. And it wasn't even one of Schumacher's episodes.
Unless it was in the original/comes up later as a plot point I'm kind of wondering if Spacey was just having fun with the viewers, since he's an executive producer too and there've been so many rumors over the years that he's gay.

Im sorry but i fail to see how the policy discussion being too simple is a bad thing. Within the context of the enviroment and the characters in play, wouldnt it make sense for them to discuss and relay policy to others that seemed simple? With this being my first political drama I feel it works out just fine. I get the impression they wanted to keep it simple so it wouldn't be too distracting from the main plot.
