I am going to say in all of these cases, the final product didn't meet the target render at all.

Should we really be excited about the Orbis reveal? I know this doesn't speak for the entire company, but there are people within Sony (probably at the higher levels) who tend to get carried away.
 
I don't think we'll see too much target render BS this time around. The games shown off will be coming this year. All of these are from a year and a half or more before launch. They also got so much shit for the 2005 stuff that I don't think they'll try to pull that again.

The MGS4 one also would have been possible, if the RSX didn't get way underclocked after it was made.
 
Exactly. I have no interest in Sony's "target renders" because they have been wrong every time. In some cases they have just been full-blown lies. I'll get interested in a PS4 when I have a controller in my hands and I'm playing a game - and not a moment before then
 
You're wrong at least on the PS3 Killzone case. The released game was better than the target video in some instances, and worse on others. I'd say it was a good compromise.

Yeah they always bring great target renders, hope they one up themselves again.
 
Based on the specs of the supposed Orbis, I am hopeful that the graphics will mirror many of the pre-rendered images we have seen in the past.

Those PS3 images, for instance, should be entirely possible now. Beyond that I don't really want much more from my graphics.
 
After the backlash from the PS3 reveal, I suspect they'll show in-engine stuff now.

They make a big deal of it at the beginning of a lot of their trailers these days.
 
Way was the PSX T-Rex supposed to be? I remember having it on a demo disc so it certainly wasn't a lie, but I don't remember it being linked to a game?
 
I feel like the PS2 ones were met and surpassed, honestly.

I'd say FFX, X-2, and XII looked as good as the FF8 scene.

For sure--especially the higher detail models used in the real-time cutscenes.

Also some of the PS3 target renders. That FF7 demo is hideous now if you go watch it.

I agree. If you look at the facial models on in-engine cutscenes in FFX and FF-12, they look a lot better than those.

Also very convenient that the FF13 trailer wasn't posted, when the game turned out looking indistinguishable from the CGI.
 
Final product Killzone 2 looked better than the CG trailer.

Nope it doesn't. Not even close.

The actual gameplay looks absolutely nothing like the carefully choreographed orchestrated and pin-pointed trailer with custom sound, custom animation and perfect IQ.

Of course, that goes for any game where the pr department have gone all-in on the smoke and mirrors.
 
This will be an event at a date they picked themselves. They shouldn't be in panic mode as they probably were during the infamous E3 conference.
 
If its releasing this year the will show gameplay........

nintendo also showed tech demos. i hope sony shows along with games
 
Sony target render comparisons never go down well, I personally think outside of the animation KZ2 actually looked better than the target render, although art direction obviously played a big part in that.
