I am going to say in all of these cases, the final product didn't meet the target render at all.
Should we really be excited about the Orbis reveal? I know this doesn't speak for the entire company, but there are people within Sony (probably at the higher levels) who tend to get carried away.
Well, the big difference here is simply that the PS1 and PS2 demos were *NOT* "target renders". They were demos coded for and running on actual hardware. All of those PS3 demos, however, were pre-rendered movies.
It's true that, technically speaking, the actual game was unable to match the CGI trailer but the end result was, in many ways, more attractive.

Let's be clear here...PGR4 targeted 30 fps while Forza and GT5 were both saddled with hitting 60 fps. GT5 also renders at 1280x1080. That's a pretty dramatic increase.
