Wii U Satisfaction Thread

finally got a sexy black WiiU by selling all of my gc/wii/360 busted drive collection (sniff gc, you´ll be missed) and I am absolutely loving it! Mario in HD is glorious!

one thing that really bugs, the menus are way to slow! I could make som coffee for the neighbour while waiting

off screen play/netflix is awesome

do you know of any games, or a good place on the web where my kids can play games like paint and such? couldn´t find any that worked

Yeah going have to put off Rayman Legends in the end. Just not in the budget at full price at the moment. I wish it had released sooner as I would have gotten it over Mario. Oh well. Hopefully there will be a gap near the end of the year in games I'm interested in. Loved the demo but to many other games I want more.

just wondering, I know it's been a while since the Trine 2 update, but does my system also automatically install updates that have been downloaded? I tried loading up Trine, and it didn't prompt me the whole "applying updates" prompt. I checked the download manager too.

So, Pro Controller. How is it?

Are the buttons and d-pad as nice as they are on the gamepad? If so I'll probably get one.

Would be especially nice on PC so I wouldn't have to swap between two controllers (360 controller and CCPro for games where I want a better d-pad). Doesn't look like anyone has gotten it working yet though.

The pro controller is fantastic. I played with the gamepad for the longest time and then switched over to the pro on a whim. The gamepad isn't uncomfortable by any means but once I got used to the feel of the pro controller, it's kinda hard going back tbh.

The pro uses the same buttons and god-like d-pad as the gamepad. I looooove the d-pad.

They're bouncing. I wish I could bounce...

This is what I wanted to hear. I love the d-pad and buttons on the gamepad, they are some of the best I've ever used.

Will have to get one for sure once PC support is a reality. Looks like you can pair it (has no pin), just needs a driver to read the input I guess?

As someone who has ignored the WiiU until the recent announcements, I've just got a few questions for you guys who have obviously spent a lot of time with the console.

How's the backwards compatibility? I'm hoping to get rid of the Wii as soon as I get the WiiU.
Are there any demos up on the eshop? How is the eshop in general?

Backward's compatibility is pretty much complete (except Wii Connect 24), but it basically closes WiiU mode and opens Wii Mode. Kinda a hassle since it's not seemless. It's like turning off your 360 to turn on your Xbox 1 but all within the same machine.
There are demos on the eshop but not very every game. Depends on the publisher. Eshop looks alright although I'm not a huge eshop person. I think I read you had to search for a lot of stuff though which is a hassle. Seems to do a good job of putting stuff right in front of your face though.

-I've played Galaxy, Monster Hunter, and Xenoblade. There seems to be no problems with backwards compatibility issues, on the whole. Not sure about Wiiware/VC/system transfer stuff.

-Depends on your Region:
Japan: Terrible (Zombi U demo, no indie games). Only saving grace is minor discount on retail downloads from 3rd parties.
America/Europe: Decent (Fifa, Sonic, Zombi U, & Rayman demos, I believe). Some pretty good indie games, with more coming.

I can't wait for Rayman Legends later this month. The demo is fantastic and should prove to be another great Wii U game...

March seems to be another great month with LEGO: City Undercover and Aliens (among others).

I love the Wii U!

Yep. Wii on Wii U is basically a Wii...on the Wii U. :p
No visual updates, no faster loadings, no more internal memory to save stuff, no extras bells and stuff. Like with the GameCube on the Wii and the DS on the 3DS. They made it, to ensure full backward compatibilty.

The Wii Shop is decent, some of the best games (FAST, Jett Rocket) have demos too. Not many options though.

The patch that is out in Europe and will soon be out in the US adds it.
???
Thought the patch was released everywhere by now. I downloaded it some days ago and read it on Nintendolife too.

Oh I guess it's out. How does the WiiU do patches? I didn't see anything downloading when I used it today.
As long as you're online, you launch the game and a message saying "Preparing update" appears. You either wait, or press "Launch Software".

Black Ops II also had a recent patch, but had some "glitches" in that it "unlocked" a few tags/stuff that showed weapons for the DLC that was released on 360. :p

Where there people actually complaining about other people being satisfied with their WiiU itt? :/
Some; yeah. Freaking Nintendo fanboys praising a Nintendo console on a Nintendo satisfaction thread!! The nerve of them!!

I prefer the eshop layout 1000x over XBL marketplace but part of the reason it works so well now is because there really aren't that many games and demos. They're going to have to design categories better in the future. I go on there at least once a week to check out the new layout though and see what's being featured or pushed at the moment. The fact that eshop actively promotes games now makes such a drastic difference coming from the aggravatingly software agnostic approach of the Wii's eshop.

BC on the Wii U makes Wii games look better.
Slightly, and more related to the output been on HDMI and running all games at 480p (even games that didn't supported it); not an actual bump per se. Is still nice, the slightly cleaner look and better colors is an improvement anyway.

I know what you mean anyway, but sometimes saying that "looks better" is what caused the multiple confusions across many threads, were people expect "Dolphin like results" ...just to discover a 480p/slightly fuzzy image that also is affected by their sets.
Which is why I prefered to say earlier that "No visual updates, no faster loadings, no more internal memory to save stuff, no extras bells and stuff".

:p

On the topic of updates, Trine 2's update is 142MB.

Other games I have that also had updates are:
-Nintendoland: 221MB
-Black Ops II: 101MB
-Assassin's Creed III: 58MB
-New Super Mario Bros. U: 29MB

Still waiting on Nano Assault's update.

the browser doesn't support flash. It does do html5.

Last time I checked, there was one game, and but it didnt run good. That was over a month ago, tho.

edit:

"Using the online HTML5 Test tool (as well as a few of my own scripts), I compiled the capabilities of the Wii U browser. Here are some of those results:
No Audio support
No Web Audio API
No WebGL, WebSockets, or File API
No AppCache, some security
No WebWorkers
Framerate is very low (~10 FPS for tested games)"

itd definitely hurt eshop sales if full fledged html5 games could work.

So uh

I havent had broadband for two weeks (moved house). Getting 60mb/s fibreoptic later today thank fuck.

Anything I need to look out for on the UK eShop? Anything new?

While waiting for new Wii U titles I'm looking for some decent Wii co-op titles. Any recommendations GAF?

Maybe Metal Slug Anthology. Or Brawl if you like the adventure mode.
I guess Samurai Warriors 3, but I think that one is lackluster.

Donkey Kong Country Returns sounds fun (haven't played it) Same thing with that new Kirby game that they made before the Wii U came out (4 player co op).

Monster Hunter for online co op if you want.

That's all I can think of on top of my head.

Wanted to chime in here:

I've been busy playing Pokemon and it's swallowed up all my game time for the past three weeks, but I recently returned to NSMBU this weekend and did all of world five.

I don't recall the name of the level, but it's the ghost level where the whole thing looks like a painting. The visuals just blew me away. I thought it was so cool! It wasn't anything super special, but I enjoy little stylistic touches like that.

I want to finish it soon so I can start working on ZombiU. I love my WiiU.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland is super. Definitely check that out.

Others...
All the gun games like House of the Dead in all its incarnations, Gunblade NY/LA Machineguns, Ghost Squad...
LEGO titles
Rayman Origins
Sin & Punishment: Star Successor
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Monster Hunter 3 Tri (Online)
Donkey Kong Country Returns

There are probably more, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head.

Is there a way to get Nintendo to pressure more devs into making demos for their games? Without limits, preferably. Most multiplat games already have demos on other systems, so I can't imagine it'd be hard to implement. Would be such an easy way to combat the cries of drought.

Looool well no. That cant be even pressured to make their games multiplatform.

If they had done a whole game of stuff like that NSMBU would have been truly memorable.

So I pulled the trigger a few days back on a black WiiU for my girlfriend and kid off the back of a good price link here on GAF, got the thing for £250. It came yesterday but I only managed to sneak it out earlier today and dat satisfaction. Nothing like cracking open a box with a new console in it. Pad and machine look slick, I can't wait to hook it up and do set-up. That'll wait a few days, still waiting on the games coming (Mario U, Sonic All-stars Racing & Skylanders Giants, in addition to N-Land) until I do the big reveal. I probably won't even get much of a look in at in until the end of March, Dead Space 3 is going to kick off a heavy ass run of games I'll be busy with on 360/ps3, but just wanted to chime and say I got one, and I'm already feeling the satisfaction. Got Rayman Legends and Lego City Undercover on pre-order too, so pretty set for a good time once I get at it.

I'd let it download updates ahead of time. I didn't have any trouble, but others did.
