MCV's PR blogger mad gamers didn't buy DmC, calls GAF a bad word

He hasn't gone out of his way to insult gamers. He's just too emotionally invested in the financial data he's reporting. Sloppy way of going about it. Same problem with Pachter sometimes, he'd be better off being the clueless analyst who doesn't actually play the games.
To try & con retailers to re-order DmC.
To wrap it up in a neat bow and make Ninja Theory look like it wasn't their doing.

I think this is giving the hardcore DMC fans too much credit.

I think the bigger problem is that it is HARD for 3rd person action games to find a mass market apeal in today's environment. I think maybe part of this has to do with Japan going portable crazy. Part perhaps has to do with the funneling of games down RPG or FPS (or a combination therefore) lines. I mean how many 3rd person action games can we list in recent years that didn't make money or barely scraped by?

I loved this game. I would like to see more. It's sad that it didn't do very well, but let's not give the the crusaders too much credit just because they yell really loud.

The DMC series was actually fairly consistent in sales. It wasn't GoW numbers or anything, but 2m+ was pretty much a given for each entry. It's a series that's very much driven by hardcore fans because it really doesn't have the huge player base. Capcom couldn't afford to piss those fans off, and yet that's exactly what they ended up doing. That's why over the last year or so of development they were desperately trying to convince those fans that this was still the DMC that they knew and loved. But they damage was already done.

This is the logical response. These types of games just don't sell like they used to, unfortunately.

Yet the fans revolted because Capcom dared to reinvent its IP for the 21st century and dared to change the colour of Dante’s hair. It’s really very sad.

A headline suggested by a colleague: “Devil May Cry fans destroy brand out of spite.” That about covers it.

Talk about blind rage and blame-gaming.
Oh man. What is this I don't even

Honestly, I played the demo and I thought the game was alright. I don't think it is worth buying new and I really don't mind Dante's look. That isn't the problem. I just don't like the flow of the game and it's focus on staying in the air forever. I may get it eventually.

Sorry, but I am not going to fully support a game that doesn't really catch my attention. : /

That's really not true, though. From my admittedly anecdotal evidence, DMC wasn't all that niche in the last gen. Hack n slash adventure games were pretty popular back then, though (and it's why so many were made). Now, however, things have really changed.

In regards to sales, do these numbers include the PC version? I'm sure a number of people, myself included, skipped out on the console version (which was released earlier) in favor of the PC version.

Or did the PC version completely tank?

Tameem said dumb shit in public at the worst time possible that was never going to go down well, and the game itself is currently targeted purely over the simplified gameplay compared to previous entries.
Is it really that simplified, though? I mean, for the top 1% of fans, perhaps, but I suspect the vast majority of people who have played Devil May Cry would find adequate depth in the fighting system. It's a solid system that works well and offers plenty of challenge on the higher difficulty levels.

problem with DmC is its a mediocre action gme made by people well know for making mediocre action games.

It lost the draw of devil may Cry when it replaced the main character with a unlikeable dick. Screamed fuck you at the player and dumbed the combat to a snails pace.

He's a paid PR man and wrote "surely of seen"? Wow.

Fixed.

I doubt he cares about NT, just about the money his rag makes from Capcom.

I read the article expecting a call to arms and got nothing.
I'm so disappointed right now.

Also, can we all just chill out in regards to this damn game?
Both sides?

It's embarrassing.

HAPPY NOW?!

Welp. His hair is white and he's still terrible. Looks like they were wrong!

Makes sense. DMC4 was solid but fell short with its ideas. Honestly though I think both versions of the franchise could co-exist, ala Prince of Persia (where's my 2008 sequel?)

First Devil May Cry was amazingly awesome. Every single sequel since then has been complete shit. That's why the series is in trouble, it has nothing to do with the fans.

People still think gamers didn't buy it because of Dante's hair? lol

HOW DARE CONSUMERS NOT PURCHASE PRODUCTS THAT DO NOT APPEAL TO THEM?

I didn't buy it cause of the hair and drastic change in character design. After playing the demo with its convoluted controls i'll wait till its sub $15.

Where is your financial proof that action games in the vein of DMC are selling less? At this rate BAYONETTA will have sold more than the new DmC in the long term - purely because no one wants DmC!

The amount of insults video game writers hurl at their audience continues to baffle me.

Although, I guess we're not the audience that pays their wages.

I can tell you haven't even played the game.

Where did this "DMC was all but dead before the DmC announcement" meme come from? Wasn't DMC 4 the highest selling title of the franchise? It's probably just one more case of glorious west/lol Japan.

A consumer magazine bitching about almost a million of copies sold of a game series whose fanbase has been actively bashed by the game maker´s PR departament. Thats a pretty good picture of the current landscape of AAAA games.

Cant wait for the Tomb Raider version of this thread.

why did DMC need to be reinvented when it had so many loyal fans. DmC selling so bad just cements the fact that it did not need to be rebooted so drastically.

I can tell you haven't even played the game.

Well there's a reason for that it seems.

Poor impression given off from the game's marketing effort

Can't expect everyone to be willing to shill out 50-60 dollars before forming their opinion on a commercial product

Yes. There's no indication that DMC was dying before DmC's announcement. It was just a convenient platform to promote a reboot.

Why is the blame on fans? Why isn't the blame on the average dudebro gamer who buys Call of Duty, Skryim, Assassin's Creed and God of War? I mean that was the target audience for this game especially after they basically said they don't care about the fanbase.

Systems aside, the game is easy as hell. It sure looks purdy on the PC though.

I enjoyed the game, and have avoided this dick waving from both 'sides'.

We'll probably see a NT sequel before we see anyone else back on this game.

yep it sold something like 2.7 million I believe, DmC won't even come close

I'm a problem if I don't want to buy a game that doesn't appeal to me? Oh my. That's certainly an interesting way of looking at how to make games.
