MCV's PR blogger mad gamers didn't buy DmC, calls GAF a bad word

Since the biggest disasters are all mostly behind the scenes, I don't think people appreciate what a house of unending incompetence Ninja Theory is. Capcom probably had to get a hell of a lot more hands on with this title than they would have liked, essentially scrubbing much of the "outsourcing to lower our load" point.

Yeah I am convinced they ended up spending money on this game than they intended to.

Personally I like to resolve my cognitive dissonances but if you think you can take it then more power to you.

Wait, are you people serious?

NT makes a game I end up liking. I play it and I end up loving Nariko's character.

Three years later the guys who made the game I liked, end up becoming the biggest assholes in the industry and destroy every bit of good will I ever had.

So I end up not buying their newest games.

Now tell me why should all that invalidate the fact that I like Heavenly Sword.

Agreed, Konami handled things very well with Metal Gear.

Here's Metal Gear Rising, a new take on the series made by Platinum Games and assisted by KojiPro. If you like the game and it sells then we have no problem turning it into its own series.

Oh and in case you were wondering here's Ground Zeroes, a new entry in MGS. Then they go as far as to discuss possibilities and scenarios for further sequels.

I would rather see prequels, with PC ports of course.

Grey Fox is an infinitely cooler character than Raiden, with a more intriguing and mysterious back story.
Touching on MGS1, and then MGS2 with the big shell incident and Olga.

Metal Gear Rising was never presented as a replacement of the Metal Gear Solid franchise though. It's not really comparable.

Even in the Demo thread people were still calling it Metal Gear Solid: Rising Revengence (Fuck me that's a mouthful). I think it's because it's a console title people are still attaching it to the Solid line when it's in the same vain as Ac!d.

I remember an interview with Itsuno with him saying after he finished Dogma he came to see the game and ended up going through every animation in the game with them frame by frame.

because I like Heavenly Sword and Nariko.

Pretty irrelevant huh?

So, explain why you want to see them rot in hell though? Clearly they developed a game you enjoy and one game that happens to be good, but that you don't enjoy. Hell seems harsh.

Hmm maybe I'll play it...

Oh wait...

Meh, people are being a little weird about it. I love Megaman and fucking despise Capcom these days. Megakaz avatar oh noes.

But if you think DmC looks good you could give it a shot.

HAHA you're ok in my book :P

Those people were weird and illiterate then.

Actually I was referring to you wanting HS2 from a developer you want to rot in hell.

Does not follow.

So here we have a situation where the classic DMC hardcore fanbase was too small to be worth catering to but at the same time large enough to affect sales of a game that wasn't aimed at them in the first place.

Which is it? Can't have it both ways.

The other thing is, it's clear Parfitt thinks that GAF is part of the problem of DmC's underperformance/general handling. Gaming media is sending mixed messages: either the general dedicated core gaming populace are insignificant or too arrogant, and then this? Were these core fans of DMC a minority or not (some involved in promotion certainly wanted to take this angle.)

This guy just doesn't get it.

I meant a new entry, a prequel is always a possibility with MGS (Kojima discussed wanting to base a game around the Boss and the Cobra unit).

That being said, I'm glad they went with Raiden. I've never had any problems with his character and his reimagining in MGS4 was brilliant.

Even in the Demo thread people were still calling it Metal Gear Solid: Rising Revengence (Fuck me that's a mouthful). I think it's because it's a console title people are still attaching it to the Solid line when it's in the same vain as Ac!d.

People are just used to saying MGS, it will MGR soon enough.

S for Snakes and R for Raiden :P

He mentioned it was because of how they were trashing their fans while making the game.

Too bad the story, protagonist, and antagonist, are all so embarrassingly bad, in DmC.

Pretty much. I was there for DMC1, 2, 3 and 4. Not going to bother with DmC after trying the demo. Honestly, not even 10-20 dollar bargain bin later for me.

Also, I don't get the people going on about Zephyrus's avatar being HS. So he likes HS which was made in 2007 and later on NT does something that changed his opinion of them.

I hate SE (their FF11 developers team specifically) yet that doesn't mean I am going to hate all of FF11 because of that.

Edit: a bit late in the reply. :|

This reminds me of Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition. It might be a good game, but the designers of it would constantly trash the previous versions of the game.

So when it finally came out, most people didn't play it. They stuck with the old editions of the game (made much easier by another company coming out with a game that was essentially D&D 3.75)

I don't see why anyone would spite an entire development team over a comment one man made. Shit, musicians say dumb shit all the time, but no-one cares about that, they'll still buy their records if they think they're any good.

Artists aren't "supposed" to be nice and respectful. Hell, look at Kamiya.

Ugh. OK, I guess. Seems like a developer rotting in hell makes the chance of a sequel to a franchise created by them very slim to none.

It's cool, none of my business.

As mentioned above already:
Sony owns Heavenly Sword's IP not NT.
Sony Cambridge also helped with HS back in the day already as it is.

It hurted mine seeing you wiggling your tail about DmC's and NT latest insult to people who liked the previous games.

I know Heavenly Sword was made by Ninja Theory.
It was also released in 2007, 3 years prior to Tameem's diva personality insulting me and anyone who was a fan of the older devil may cry games.

Yet, I still like Heavenly sword.

I still like Nariko's character, one which I consider to be the best female character this gen.

I still want a Heavenly Sword 2.

Yet I want to see Ninja Theory fail.
I see where you're coming from. I liked Heavenly Sword too, and Ninja Theory seemed humble when they made it. Somewhere down the road Tameem became a diva and they started to get full of themselves. Them taking over Devil May Cry was an offer i'm sure they couldn't refuse, but they were all wrong for it, and i'll never look at them the same way again because of it.

Fucking Capcom.

It really is a great game. The fact that fans wouldn't support it out of spite is actually true. People really can be fuckwits.

the game was fine, but it was so dumbed down and easy and short it does devil may cry no justice. maybe nt should rethink this if they want to succeed.

Frankly I dont know many people interested in a 5th Devil May Cry game, whether it was a reboot or continuation. Franchise fatigue has to play a part as well

So it's going to take us 30 years or so to stop giving a fuck about what comes out of developers' mouths? :(

Maybe if I showed you what the SE FF11 developers team is doing and the replies they were giving on the official forums, you would change your mind? lol

Spoiler:
They lied, changed their mind on a lot of things, not listening to the players, etc. So it may be well more than 30 years

I had the opportunity to play DmC on PC and I can safely say I was blown away by impressive it was. frame-rate was 60fps according to my friend and the difference was immediately noticeable. the game went from something that felt like you were playing in treacle to an extremely responsive and fast paced action game. some of the best visuals I've seen for some time too.

it's a shame the console version turned out to be so neutered in comparison.

It's funny that PR people still think the hair is that huge of a deal

It's mostly the combat that's the issue. That and how they completely revamped everything the character was about.

It's like if you took Street Fighter, added in Edgy Hipster Ryu and brought in the gameplay of smash and then made that game the "reboot" of Street Fighter.

its unreal engine on pc. its very well optmized for PC and art style was great too. didnnt demand much though as textures were atrocious. game is great, but it was too dumbed down for real devil may cry fans. too easy and too short.

Artists aren't "supposed" to be nice and respectful (they aren't supposed to be dickish or disrespectful either, I don't get it, not every artist is punk-like or anti-establishment, what have you). Hell, look at Kamiya.

The situation is more complicated than that though. There were some fans that didn't like the new direction and 60 fps, general world aesthetic or Dante design, combat complaints and etc., saw Tameem as consistently antagonistic to them, and decided to be antagonistic.

The way that musicians and game developers make money now is different too, I barely know of anyone who purchases new records unless it's for bands they're diehard fans of or struggling up and comers. You can't pirate new console releases, but pirating is a reality for musicians.

I don't see why we shouldn't care about what comes out of developers' mouths. What arguably harmful dumb thing has Kamiya said would you compare to Tameem's comments for his own title? There's harmless irreverence, and then there's realizing the context of the timing and questionable necessity of the reboot for the franchise.

It's not like calling for NT's destruction is a completely fair response, but that's not the same as Tameem making the comments he did in the position he's in.

edit: Tameem's situation is more than just (as an example) getting caught smoking weed, it's like how getting caught smoking weed affects some in the public eye (Michael Phelps) more than others. The degree to which Tameem's comments affected DmC fan reception (noticeable) to sales (dubious), if he thinks it's unfair he at least should've anticipated it.
