MCV's PR blogger mad gamers didn't buy DmC, calls GAF a bad word

Neither of those should come out to "I'm going to deprive myself of this thing I think looks neat because of those comments", though. That's the point. Separate the art from the artist. That's the ultimate point.

Well considering the Dixie Chicks, it will be a lot longer than that.

yeah that was an optimistic estimate, huh

Maybe if I showed you what the SE FF11 developers team is doing and the replies they were giving on the official forums, you would change your mind? lol

Spoiler:
They lied, changed their mind on a lot of things, not listening to the players, etc. So it may be well more than 30 years

Shitty behaviour =/= shitty statements, that was them admitting to doing whatever bad shit they were up to. THAT'S worthy of scorn. If NT had actively lied about things then sure, they should go fuck themselves, but they didn't, they were just being a little insensitive to the hardcore DMC fanbase.

What the fuck. How do people like this remain employed? If I went around calling people fuckwits it wouldn't go too well for me. But nope. This is okay apparently.

And I bought the game too, and am enjoying it for what it is. Did I destroy the brand? Am I a GAF fuckwit? Honestly, it's people like this that make the rest of us look like a bunch of children. They have the easiest job in the world yet they still manage to balls it up every time.

I had the opportunity to play DmC on PC and I can safely say I was blown away by impressive it was. frame-rate was 60fps according to my friend and the difference was immediately noticeable. the game went from something that felt like you were playing in treacle to an extremely responsive and fast paced action game. some of the best visuals I've seen for some time too.

it's a shame the console version turned out to be so neutered in comparison.
It's a night and day difference. People playing the game on consoles (understandable considering the game's heritage) get a significantly worse looking and playing version. I would not recommend it. Play it on PC or not at all.

Couldn't have been good for the reception.

Maybe it's that. Or maybe it turns out that a big chunk of the people who were consistently buying DMC games were the ones who didn't want the combat simplified. I'm sorry man, this isn't about the color of the character's hair.

Personally, I'm really into a simplified action game that is still above the God of War bar of complexity. But when a game like DMC4, that had such glaring issues as the insane amount of backtracking going for it, still sells more than the previous game, you have to wonder who is buying these things and if making the combat more accessible is something that audience wants in the first place. You also have to think about the risk of trying for a shift towards accessibility late in a console generation. This same game could have done much better launching with the new consoles, getting new fans when it counts. Right now we're at a point where new concepts are largely ignored on consoles.

Or it could be a lot of older fans of DMC have grown weary of the juvenile tendencies of the series, but were willing to tolerate it for the great gameplay, but DmC was going to far for some, combined with an even worse story and ect.

Gameplay alone isnt enough for some.

Gaming 'journalists', sucking publisher cock since 1972.

If you sell your opinion for goodies and a limited edition then just go ahead and kill yourself right now.

It's kind of their fault, not that they should have expected such vitriol for messing with (an already not spectacular) character.

Who was this game for? DMC fans hate it because "ITS NOT DMC T_T", and the people that aren't DMC fans likely already wrote off the series.

It's like if you took Street Fighter, added in Edgy Hipster Ryu and brought in the gameplay of smash and then made that game the "reboot" of Street Fighter.

close enough...

I will never purchase another Bioware game, however I doubt they'll last any longer than the next five years

Yeah, that's because Bioware fucking suck. Your decision is made on broken promises, selling out and generally making terrible games. I doubt you'd attribute your decision 100% to comments like the "press A to win" guy.

DmC its a good game but the problem is that the fans didnt needed the reboot since sales proved there was demand to the original series so it wasnt stagnant sales the issue but more of capcom lets milk it behavior that got them to reboot it.

Since the biggest disasters are all mostly behind the scenes, I don't think people appreciate what a house of unending incompetence Ninja Theory is. Capcom probably had to get a hell of a lot more hands on with this title than they would have liked, essentially scrubbing much of the "outsourcing to lower our load" point.

I said this before but I am amazed at how Ninja Theory is still able to get big contracts from big publishers. 3 big bombs (HS, Enslaved, and now DmC) from 3 large publishers (Sony, Namco Bandai, Capcom). Other developers got shuttered for doing far better. Tameem must be an incredible salesman because I can't see how publishers and the press still have faith in this studio.

MCV is an industry/retail facing newspaper. Its articles therefore have a retail slant on them, and where a normal newspaper article or editorial might look at the impact for Joe Bloggs on the street, MCV will look at the impact for HMV, or Grainger Games or the local Indie.

So you have to filter their news in that context.

Having said that, this article does read like something the devs or publisher would say, but it isn't reported as a quote, it's straight from the journalist. So that's odd.

This place is a gaming forum, we are going to magnify any tiny deficiencies I games, we are going to shout about what we find important. So the reaction in this thread isn't that unusual.

As somebody in the media, they should know to just shut up and let the noise blow over. They know this will backfire on them. It was silly of them to publish the article in the first place, but even more silly to follow it up like they have.

I really liked DmC. I wish more people would of bought it but I think some people could also be waiting for a price drop.

A lot of people (at least what I read and saw) thought it was being more than a little insensitive to the people who might have actually bought the game which would have made for better sales that they are complaining about now.

It ends up mattering far more than we seem to think.

I rented it. The game has some good aspects, but overall I would put it like this for the gen.

DMC4>Bayo>God Of War>DMC>NGII

You can tell they tried to give the new Dante a little attitude, but he just comes off as a douchebag. He's very unlikable.

I think its funny when people say "You don't like what they are doing to X Series? DON'T BUY IT" and now that people actually followed that line of thinking we get people saying" WHY DIDN'T YOU BUY IT!!! IT"S YOUR FAULT IT'S NOT SELLING!! YOU GUYS ARE ASSHOLES FOR NOT BUYING IT LIKE WE THOUGHT YOU WOULD!!"

I say good for the Fans that didn't like the way the game was made and chose not to purchase it! I am renting it today so I hope its as good as some of the people say it is.

its unreal engine on pc. its very well optmized for PC and art style was great too. didnnt demand much though as textures were atrocious. game is great, but it was too dumbed down for real devil may cry fans. too easy and too short.

I thought it was quite challenging myself. maybe I just suck? i should point out that I master ninja'd ninja gaiden black back in the day, maybe I'm losing my touch?

not sure if it matters, but it was on the dante must die difficulty setting. I noticed there were a few more, but those hadn't been unlocked yet.

it really was. I often pop round to my friends as he's a staunch pc only gamer to see what new games he's got going and from all the games he's shown me, this one was the most shocking in how big and noticeable the differences were.

the witcher 2 was another. and I know it's not on consoles, but hard reset is probably one of the most impressive first person shooters I've seen for quote some time. really shows just big the difference in consoles and pc has become.

anyway, he's updating his rig soon, so I hope to play it in 120fps. my eyes are ready to explode in orgasmic wonder and delight.

enough of my ramblings though.

Donte must Cry bombing hardcore after magazines were all "SEE FANS IT WAS GUD!" has been the hilarious drama that keeps on giving.

I think this is a Shakespearean tragedy worthy of a stage adaptation.

I guess my argument is that people shouldn't care as much as they do. Not a lot I can do about that, I suppose... eh, we'll get there.

Its more like Capcom have an absolute obsession with putting middling western devs on the payroll. Its pathological at this point, and I guess Inafune is to blame for getting them started down this path, but it increasingly makes less and less sense when you're throwing money at the studio behind Turning Point (43% Metacritic) and Legendary (47% Metacritic) to detonate their Lost Planet IP all while not bringing over the japanese developed spin-off. Thats mental sickness of some kind.

They set out to make Dante more relatable but not only failed they made him more annoying than DMC3 Dante. Quite the accomplishment.

This bullshit pisses me off ... Finally played mgr demo and its amazing I wonder the budget and time it took to make mgr by platinum and Konami vs DMc by capcon and its majestic development team of 10000 coders

So GAF singlehanded killed new DMC ?

No it was because publisher/developer (i don't know which is responsible) fucked with fanbase for no reason.

I still think it's a shame that people aren't even giving it a shot because of Capcom bringing in Ninja Theory (or even more ridiculous reasons, like "LULZ DANTE IS EMO!").

It's clear when you play DmC that NT put a lot of love into the game. Actually like the game or hate it, you can't say NT just took a paycheck and pooped something out. They deserve the benefit of the doubt, IMO- kind of like Vatra with Silent Hill: Downpour (although Capcom clearly gave NT more money and QA than Konami bothered to do with Vatra).

Try the DMC HD collection (You can safely skip DMC2 though...) or DMC4 if you want to see the difference in difficulty.

Top comment on the video: And now instead of this we get FUCK YOU.

...so true.

Or maybe because of redesign and no platinum and 30 FPS ? And no PC 200FPS doesn't change anything.

to my shame it's in my backlog along with metal gear solid hd collection and doom 3 bfg. I'll get it on it though, I'm in the mood for a good action game after playing DmC.

NeoGAF is getting attacked from all sides lately. Is this a conspiracy by the mainstream gaming press to destroy this influential gaming forum?

More as it develops...

Yeah, not gonna lie. This game is easy as piss so far. Started on Nephilim, it's kinda weird that it's this easy on the hardest available (At the start).

I'd never heard of gaf for years. Feels like its suddenly getting mentioned all the time.
Just means its more and more influential.

The gaming press has been having a slow moving meltdown for a while though.

Fixed. Now we need another "journalist", analyst or PR whatever to come up with a nice word for the G. Who'll be up to the task?

Asshole should always be preceded with Gaping, I feel. Ever since Rawls on The Wire. Thats just how it is.

I don't get the "unprofessional" complaint. While I don't think its wise to antagonize the "internets", it seems reasonable enough to criticize factions within the gaming fanbase if he feels they deserve it.

Is anyone above criticism really? And seriously, raging over this mild provocation is basically helping to prove his point.

hey guys what a shock this game failed! another person who fails to understand absolutely anything about what the series actually needed and refuses to see reality for what it is: fans might have helped its plight, but that's because they did not want DmC. And fans fucking deserve to say whether they want a garbage reimagining of the franchise they helped build with their purchases. What's more, the problems had nothing to do with the hair and everything to do with tone, combat gameplay, etc - trying to say EVERYONE COULD SEE AFTER DMC4 THE SERIES NEEDED MODERNIZATION is at best retarded revisionism, and at worst abject bullshit designed to stir the pots of individuals who can't think for themselves.

DMC4 had some of the best action combat gameplay of any game ever made, period. All it needed was a second half that was unique.

Calling 10000-odd people fuckwits is professional behaviour in your eyes?
