MCV's PR blogger mad gamers didn't buy DmC, calls GAF a bad word

Or maybe because of redesign and no platinum and 30 FPS ?

Valid points, but would you say the majority are skipping because of these two reasons?

I've hated the new Dante since it was first shown. I hated the trailers cut for DmC. Everything had a 'try hard' feeling to it. Somehow in-game it worked for me and by the end I appreciated the new (younger) Dante, as well as the tone of the game's story.
Personally I think the overall art direction was pretty great, but yeah, that's completely subjective.

As far as FPS, I guess I'm just one of those people that it really doesn't kill my like for a game if I'm into it. Hell, I played through years of slow-down with the SNES games, so I guess framerate doesn't bother me as much as other people.

Regardless, I'll probably just move this discussion to the DmC |OT| where it belongs. :)

I don't get the "unprofessional" complaint. While I don't think its wise to antagonize the "internets", it seems reasonable enough to criticize factions within the gaming fanbase if he feels they deserve it.

Is anyone above criticism really? And seriously, raging over this mild provocation is basically helping to prove his point.

Using the term "fuckwit" is pretty damn unprofessional.
Few and far between are the personalities with the clout to say that without major repercussions.

DMC fans are smarter than most people give them credit for.

Never heard of MCV, sorry. Some sort of fansite? The NeoGAF fuckwits are responsible for the news items on the front page of your website, though:

I don't think grouping an entire community together as "fuckwits" is legitimate criticism. It shows him approaching the situation with as little tact as possible.

hey guys what a shock this game failed! another person who fails to understand absolutely anything about what the series actually needed and refuses to see reality for what it is: fans might have helped its plight, but that's because they did not want DmC. And fans fucking deserve to say whether they want a garbage reimagining of the franchise they helped build with their purchases. What's more, the problems had nothing to do with the hair and everything to do with tone, combat gameplay, etc - trying to say EVERYONE COULD SEE AFTER DMC4 THE SERIES NEEDED MODERNIZATION is at best retarded revisionism, and at worst abject bullshit designed to stir the pots of individuals who can't think for themselves.

DMC4 had some of the best action combat gameplay of any game ever made, period. All it needed was a second half that was unique.

You're being totally unreasonable.

People were complaining about the backtracking and rehashed content in Devil May Cry 4, how exactly do you expect Capcom to realize that they need to make a sequel without backtracking or rehashed content?

god dayum

Did Capcom do anything with DmC?

I don't remember seeing any kind of advertisement for it. I would be mad at Capcom for letting it die quietly before I blamed the fans the game was trying to get away from.

Ouch. EviLore laying the smack down. I'm sure he didn't bother to check their source though. I mean who would bother checking another site's source when you're copying their shit?

They did a lot of damage control, as opposed to promoting the game. Promoting for DmC wasn't "Hey, guys. Look at this cool game we made." as much as it was "You knobheads, DMC sucks and you were idiots for liking it. This is better."

holy fucking shit lol

Maybe next time we need to join together and walk over to Capcom's offices and leave them a note to be clearer. ;)

How is DmC a 'modernization' anyway? A significantly worse combat system than DMC4... DMC4's problem wasn't that it wasn't modern, it was that it needed slightly more time in the oven to make a unique second half. Earlier DMC games had better level design than DMC4, it was just the transition to next-gen made the game come out in a rushed state.

DmC was actually de-modernizing things in a lot of ways. Unless the only thing people are talking about is the new shitty story which is in a lot of ways just as bad as the old shitty story? Maybe it's because the only reason to really play the DMC games is for the amazing combat system, but somehow I don't think 'story' is what people wanted - as if more bloated horribly written tripe is what constitutes 'modernization' anyway

Have you seen the mountains of shit heaped on NT for having the audacity to take on the Devil May Cry series? It was insane how much hate was spewed by the so called "fans" of the series. This shit went on for months. The constant barrage of negativity around this title has seriously hampered its chance at commercial succes. That's a fucking shame because it's a good game that deserves good sales.

If entitled gamers actually had the ability to significantly decrease sales Skyrim PS3 and the Walking Dead PC would have never happened, XBL would free and CoD would have dedicated servers. I sincerely doubt the vocal minority ever has any power when it comes to games.

Some got turned off by DMC4, some grew out of brawlers during the interval, some didn't like that it was 30fps on consoles when the predecessor was 60 or otherwise didn't like what DmC brought to the table. Capcom wanted to the two birds in the bush and decided to let go of the one in its hand.

For all of game journalism's whining about entitled gamers, this seems like they're saying that these companies are entitled to sales whether people wanted to buy their product or not.

Ironic.

This isn't a "Videogames Journalism" thing, it happens a lot in sports too. No one supports a cheap team that won't spend the money on good players or make smart decisions. The team decides to up and move. The "terrible" fans are blamed by media for not supporting the loser team that pinches pennies.

I'd never heard of gaf for years. Feels like its suddenly getting mentioned all the time.
Just means its more and more influential.

The gaming press has been having a slow moving meltdown for a while though.

NeoGAF is getting attacked from all sides lately. Is this a conspiracy by the mainstream gaming press to destroy this influential gaming forum?

More as it develops...

In past 3-4 days i have read more articles on professional sites with NeoGaf as source than in last 2 months. I see why they are so angsty lately. Kind of points that gaming sites are just useless and gaming forum provides better articles for interested people.

Like I said, I think its an unwise thing to do, but I'm really not terribly offended by some journo making a snarky tweet.

Am I less of a GAFFER because I'm not bothered?

Gaming press vs gaf..

Who wins

I don't get why they do such a thing. It's like they all think all of gaf has a vendetta against them. They should take all look at all of those Youtube video blogs that talk shit about games. Just take a look at the shitstorm when Bayonetta 2 was reveiled as a Wii U exclusive: it was worse over there. I think youtube has a hell of a bigger reach than GAF will ever have.

This guy probably sees users like Indigo_Cyclops as scabs, doing all the heavy lifting and taking all the credit for work they should be getting paid to do!

It is more like someone is looking for scapegoat to their problems and since they can't talk with youtube/v/ people they instead blame NeoGaf simply because someone will respond.

Maybe now you'll stop pandering to your fucking audience and make a decent game for once, Capcom.

Oh wait, you called the entirety of NeoGAF "fuckwits"? Yeah, good luck saving your brand.

I can tell a lot if people didn't play the game. Funny thing is DMC3 "young" Dante rubbed me the wrong way too at first. Pizza eating while getting stabbed and sauntering over to a juke box, middle riding, non caring ass until he got his ass handed to him and "died" by Virgil, after that turning point he slowly started taking things more seriously... After his "resurrection/unleashing of his true power brings great responsibility moments. Then Lady was also a catalyst for human emotion and care.

DmC follows a similar path with Kat as the catalyst, and by the end of the game Dante's characterization is pretty much in line with his persona in DMC3.

I've said this elseware, but the end of DmC really could be the beginning of DMC3, they even have a logical explanation to why demons roam around in physical form. Something the series never adequately explained in its world building.

I'm glad I give it a try, good game, and Dante turns out ok.

Is this a joke post or something.

You can? Could I download DmC now? Or in some matter of months? If I'm wrong, okay I'm wrong, but to clarify the greater point being I'm of the opinion musicians take a bigger hit from piracy than a studio making a big console game.

I don't think anyone cares whether you are offended or not, I was interested in why you think it is a professional thing for a PR writer to generalize 10000+ people as fuckwits, but now I am more interested why you decided to ignore that question & instead ask such an asinine question yourself.

Plenty of high profile console games have been pirated before the launch day.
