Rayman Legends coming to Xbox 360/PS3, all versions releasing in September

You're taunting someone who said they wouldn't buy it while claiming it'll sell tons more. Which doesn't seem like a high probability. With its release window and how the end of this year might go, every little bit helps.

But who knows how things will be in September.
I'm teasing someone who thinks their one lost sale should weigh on Ubisoft in any way when Ubisoft now can sell their game to an install base orders of magnitude greater. You say every bit helps. Well no shit, that's why they're releasing to the huge install base of 360/PS3 rather than fretting over alienated WiiU owners.

Nice for 360/PS3 owners but a poor business move to delay the Wii U version.

I'd have been way more likely to buy it at full price now than in September. Pre-order cancelled for the time being.

He's exactly right. Nintendo screwed up, and UBI needs a return on its investment.
But how's this good for ubisoft? They just doomed the wii-u version, not only is it coming out the same day as they other 2 version with huge users bases, but it's going to compete with gtav at the least.

I think 7th gen should of taught us that third party exclusives can never be 100% believed.

DMC4/FFXIII PS3 exclusive!...Nope
Mass Effect 1/Dead Island 1 (Wii version does count) Xbox 360 exclusive! Nope
The Grinder (even though it might never come out :( Wii exclusive!...Nope

For 8th gen the only way I expect third party exclusives is if the big 3 pay for them.

Don't you mean dead rising? but then again dead island was a 360 exclusive when it first got announced

I can understand them porting the game to the PS3 and 360, but releasing in September alongside GTAV.

WTF Ubisoft.

So it makes sense to have late ports on Wii U but not on 360/PS3?

Unless you are saying late ports are just bad business in general. So why does Nintendo get late ports all the time? Third parties purposefully sabotaging?
PS360 = 150m userbase

Wii U = 3m userbase

This is kind of dumb. Wasn't the Wii U version going to be ready soon? What other reason for such a delay other than to do a simultaneous release?

Just put the Wii U version out ahead, whatever.

Ubisoft Logic(TM):

Executive 1: "We probably won't make any money if we release a new, high-quality Rayman game on the Wii U during both a dry period of the year and weak console release lineup. How would people possibly get excited?"

Executive 2: "Right. I know! Let's release it later in the year, on multiple platforms! There's no way it will be ignored!"

Executive 1: "But doesn't GTAV come out around that time? Alongside new consoles and new big releases from Nintendo themselves?"

Executive 2: "Well, yeah. That's the point. Rayman's a piece of a shit and he'll die like one."

I'm all for more people playing Rayman Legends, but in terms of scheduling, this seems like a horrible decision. I wish the best for the game's sales, but I'm not confident.

If the Wii version of Dead Rising counts, then de Blob 1 wasn't exclusive because there was a mobile phone game called de Blob around the same time even though it wasn't the same game.

The smart way for Ubisoft to handle this was to:

1. Release the Wii U version on track on Feb 26.
2. Get awesome reviews.
3. Enhance the game with extras for PS3/360 release on PSN/XBLA for budget price of $40 by the end of the year (around October).
4. Sell well and receive good review again.
5. The hype will remind people of the game again when it's near the year-end award season.
6. Sweep some Platformer of the Year award.

Now they are just making a mess. Especially delaying it 2 weeks before its release.

This is exactly what they should have done. This is really, really dissapointing.
Ignoring the (good) news of a multiplatform release, Ubisoft basically just delayed one of the core Wii U "exclusive" (by which I mean, unique gameplay and controls) games that was due to be released in 3 weeks, by 6 fucking months. Unreal.

As a WiiU gamer looking forward to this, I'm pretty angry.

actually it makes sense. They probably figure since the WiiU sales would probably be so poor, they're better off releasing the game on all platforms so it isn't perceived as a "late port" on the other consoles.

That's pretty true. Late ports never do that well. Didn't think of it that way.

Are you here just to troll the Wii U?

And what Sissel said is trolling...how?

Stop getting so emotionally invested.

GTAV and Rayman have completely different audiences, what is the big deal. Its not like Rayman was going to light up the charts anyway.

Ubisoft didn't screw Nintendo, Nintendo screwed Nintendo.

This should be the takeaway here:

It doesn't matter if Nintendo screwed Nintendo or Ubisoft screwed Nintendo or Nintendo screwed Ubisoft.

Ubisoft screwed gamers looking forward to one of their products in less than a month.

I'm gonna make up my own reason for the delay, the reason being Ancel gets all the time in the world to make games because he's Michel fucking Ancel.

Although Ubisoft certainly fucked up. They never should have said Febuary if there was a chance it would get this big a delay.

I fully agree. I just wanted to use a quote from wrestling :(

15 pages and nobody has brought up the possibility that the design team wants to use the porting time to improve and expand the game.

And they're releasing it in prime time to sell the most copies...wait.

Ubi games usually have huge price drops.
I always wait to buy them because of that.

Still, I was going to buy Rayman Legends Day 1 just because I don't have anything to buy for Wii U in february and I'm in love with Origins.

In setember, with so much games coming, my WIi U with other games, I will probably not buying day 1.

Also, SSFIV is million seller on 3DS just because there was no game at the time for the portable. Same thing would happen with Rayman Legends!

I'm sad.

that's nice for me. i'm very interested in the game (<3 origins and ancel) but probably wouldn't get a wii u till at least a few months after its release. now i can get it day 1!

the mess around this games launch is typical ubisoft though. fuck me. they really screwed over the wii u fans too. sorry guys.

PS360 = 150m userbase

Wii U = 3m userbase

Right, you don't want to disservice the big audience unless you view the new audience as your future.

For example, Dragon Age: Origins was basically done in March 2009 on PC, but it got delayed until Fall in favor of simultaneous release with the console versions.

I'm guessing the reason for the delay (as frustrating as it is), is that because they are now planning it for multiple platforms, by September it would have been in the used sections of GAME, Gamestop (being an offline platformer and all) on Wii U for a fairly reduced amount. Perhaps they just didn't want to have a situation where consumers go into high-street stores, or even amazon and see the Wii U version at a low used price, next to the newly released versions on the other two, with Ubisoft still (presumably) wanting to charge new retail price for the PS3/360 versions.

Think about it guys. This game was DONE AND READY TO SHIP.

They're essentially redoing the entire game. Im glad more peple will play it but this is a Horrible move by Ubisoft

They aren't. They're porting it now. The WiiU version won't be touched again. Wouldn't surprise me if they allready had the discs in a warehouse. Watch out for dust on release day.

But how's this good for ubisoft? They just doomed the wii-u version, not only is it coming out the same day as they other 2 version with huge users bases, but it's going to compete with gtav at the least.

It was doomed already due to weak Wii U sales. This way they can at least tap the huge user bases of the other consoles, and give Nintendo a chance to sell more hardware.

And why is that Ubisoft's job? I think its clear why so many of you are upset.

I'm upset because a game I was very much looking forward to playing at the end of the month has been delayed more than half a year for reasons which make absolutely zero difference to me as a consumer.

I fail to see how this is unreasonable.

You're right that there's no way to measure how it would do in comparison to releasing in a few weeks, but you can't deny that it can potentially lose sales because of other major titles. For example, I would have bought the game in the next few weeks for the Wii U, but since Nintendo will have games out by then, Rayman Legends lost a day 1 sale. This will hold true for others as well as kids who are looking for something new. Instead of Rayman, they'll just by Yoshi's shit or whatever it's called.

You are only thinking about yourself and not factoring in increased total sales for a multiplatform release.

Obviously, I don't know if one outweighs the other, but clearly Ubisoft believes the multiplat all at once option will yield better sales.

I'm upset because a game I was very much looking forward to playing at the end of the month has been delayed more than half a year for reasons which make absolutely zero difference to me as a consumer.

I fail to see how this is unreasonable.

And that's fine but its not Ubisoft's job to sell Nintendo consoles. It's Nintendo's job to do so, so that Ubisoft has a better economic environment to operate in as a third party.

Ubisoft is not only screwing gamers that were looking forward to the game in a month, they are also sending the game to die by releasing it close to GTAV.
