Monster Hunter 3 WiiU has region locked online multiplayer (NA/EU cant play together)

Wait wasn't Tri like this anyway? I know NA shared the server with South America but I don't remember being able to play with people in EU and Asia.

I love it how we collectively decide to blame Nintendo instead of Capcom

Yeah seriously.

Also, there should be a bigger outcry in general about this. Region locking for cooperative online multiplayer games is far too common from *all* developers.

Why haven't I been able to play Starcraft II with people in Europe for two years?

Nobody noticed the recent shit from Arenanet where they finally implemented server guesting in Guild Wars 2, except it's region locked? So Americans and Europeans cannot guest on one another's servers? Kinda defeats the purpose for many users.

The good news for Wii U just keep coming. If I didn't know that things will pick up later this this year due to assured full first party support, I'd call it Vita 2.0 right now.

Awful decision. How many people are gonna be online for me to play with, at specifically the same time I'm on, in Europe given the current installed base?

This sucks. I don't understand why they'd do this. I was hoping there's a "preferred region" multiplayer where most of the time they'll put you with people of the same region and on a rare occasion other regions.

Not much point in me picking up the WiiU version of this now since pretty much everyone I was going to play with online lives in NA and I don't.

Yep, this. I totally hate it when I'm playing an online game versus some bloody wanker from England. Can't understand a bloody thing they say or type.

It's like no one in Europe can speak or type in English.

:/

That's a bit rude to say don't you think? Europe has multiple countries with multiple official languages. It is a shame though it would be hard for them to find people who speak their language. They should have an option to set play with people who speak your language, I think that would be a much better alternative than region-locked online now that I think about it.

Oh yeah, the answer's staring right in our faces:

I own the Japanese version, but I was really excited to get to play with my US/EU GAF friends once it launched overseas.

This is a huge bummer. =/

You completely missed the joke.

I've been playing Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart Wii, Smash Bros, Mario Tennis Open, et al online globally without issue.

It's not a "Nintendo hatez teh gamerrz" issue. Something else is at play here.
Nah, I believe Mario Tennis Open is region-locked too unless you play against friends. Maybe playing with friends isn't region-locked for MonHun too, only random is.

So back in the day I could play PSO on the dreamcast with anyone from around the world but in 2013 Capcom wont let me play MH with US or Japanese people. Thats BS

Gaf is really I'm fine form tonight.

I was thinking about getting this when I got a Wii U, and my one friend who is super into the series is in the UK :( Probably a dealbreaker for me honestly; I kind of expected the US population to be relatively low, so I figured being able to play with other regions would help make up for that. Doesn't MH have a PSO-esque thing where there is some sort of Simple Chat equivalent?

Capcom. Nintendo games have region-free multiplayer.

An odd thing to note, but this is the case:

LOCAL Multiplayer in some 3DS games is region-locked.

When my British buddy was visiting, we could not play local Mario Kart 7. Or Zelda 4 Swords, for that matter.

It was fucking stupid.

Probably means I'm not buying this. No way I'm solo'ing a MonHun game, and I doubt I'll ever find any European pals to play this with.
