Wii U Satisfaction Thread

Not open for further replies.
So I pulled the trigger a few days back on a black WiiU for my girlfriend and kid off the back of a good price link here on GAF, got the thing for £250. It came yesterday but I only managed to sneak it out earlier today and dat satisfaction. Nothing like cracking open a box with a new console in it. Pad and machine look slick, I can't wait to hook it up and do set-up. That'll wait a few days, still waiting on the games coming (Mario U, Sonic All-stars Racing & Skylanders Giants, in addition to N-Land) until I do the big reveal. I probably won't even get much of a look in at in until the end of March, Dead Space 3 is going to kick off a heavy ass run of games I'll be busy with on 360/ps3, but just wanted to chime and say I got one, and I'm already feeling the satisfaction. Got Rayman Legends and Lego City Undercover on pre-order too, so pretty set for a good time once I get at it.

Definitely download updates ASAP as said above. It doesn't hurt and saves some hassle later. Also, definitely take advantage of off-tv play. It's awesome.

A bit of OT. The thread talking about Age of Empires 2 gives me one crazy idea. That kind of game will be nice to play on the gamepad, with the big map on TV (so the other way around compared to the current games). Control everything on the gamepad, watch the epic battles on big screen.

I haven't played an Age of Empires in forever, but fond memories. Sim City 4 with stylus would also be sweet. As I mentioned in another thread, Nintendo could make some bank by really putting that eShop to use, aggressively compiling a library of cheap classic titles to supplement their disc based games. Not just PC, but iOS, Live/PSN, and of course, Virtual Console. Combined with the AAA Nintendo stuff and the occasional decent 360-to-U ports, it could find it's niche that way. The power won't satisfy the hardcore, but the variety could satisfy the casuals and the nostalgia could work on the older gamers with disposable income.

Why nintendo still didn't adv. for Rayman Legends & Aliens: Colonial Marines?

Less than month and these games will release .

Then 3rd party will complains about their bad sells.

At least Rayman got a demo (even though it was released WAY too early IMO). I thought Aliens for Wii U was delayed for some reason?

I would have to say that NBA 2K13 wins my favourite Wii U game so far ahead of Batman: AC !!!

I love the controls on the gamepad plus being able to play on the the pad while watching tv.

So easy to just pick up and play !!!

Is there a 6 page limit on the Wii U home menu? I'm planning to rebuy the Wii U VC releases but I'd fill up all 6 pages. Does it expand beyond that?

Just a prediction: Folders will come with 1st Spring firmware update. That firmware update is when VC rolls out. I'm also guessing that firmware will somehow be able to tap into Wii mode to see what games you have, for the update process.

I hope the folders aren't so bland looking this time. A graphical NES, SNES, and Demo icon, or an array of default choices, would be so much better than only blue folders with one character (speaking of 3DS).

Aliens doesn't deserve any advertising from Nintendo. No footage. No screenshots. No Wii remote controls. Late release by at least two months and still no confirmation if it will have 100% parity with the other versions when it comes to content. Why should they? Is Sony and Microsoft advertising those versions? People have suggested this with other games but why should Nintendo be the one to advertise third party games but no one has that expectation out of Sony or Microsoft. If a company makes a game they should be willing to get people to buy it and that meas they should be advertising it and building buzz or hype around it.

That said I think Rayman Legends is getting something of a small push by Nintendo. It was the only playable game on Wii U demo stations leading up to the launch. In the end it's on Ubisoft to sell their game. Nintendo isn't publishing it. If they were that would be a different story.

I'm looking forward to Zen Pinball 2. Even though I already have it on 360, U gamepad play is worth the double dip. Also excited about the Star Wars tables.

Okay what the fuck...

I went on the browser for a bit, and then started looking around Wara Wara. The frame rate started dropping pretty much whenever I moved the zoomed in camera. Please don't tell me my Wii U is fucking dying already. I restarted my Wii U to make sure it wasn't a random issue and it's still happening. Can someone else check in case it's just a widespread software problem?

I don't understand how there can be an inconsistent frame rate in the main hub of a console. WTF?

Could someone check their Wii U's Wara Wara for bad frame rate drops when moving the camera/scrolling? I'm starting to get worred that my Wii U is already having hardware problems. I'm actually hoping it's just the Wii U's OS continuing to be shitty.

I often get momentary freezes during Wara Wara start up (e.g. fps at 0 for a sec or two), but after that, it's all smooth. And I've played some with Wara Wara.

Unlike other consoles, the WiiU is the only one which feels like it's more than a game console. I think this is mainly due to Miiverse and how well the web browser is implemented. Well, maybe the PS3 too with it's awesome video player, but this feels different in some odd way.

In Nintendo Land's Donkey Kong's Crash Course.... do you have to make it through all of the levels without dying? I keep getting tripped up at the final section in the first level and make it into the second stage with one or two lives.

Edit: just got about half way through 2nd stage.

You have to make it through all four without running out of lives.

Won't be until Q4, but I'm pretty sure I'll be more than satisfied with the Wii U. I've been playing a lot of Wii games lately (Skyward Sword, Xenoblade, Donkey Kong) and I can't wait to get a Wii U end of this year.

Zombi U, Pikmin, Monster Hunter, Wonderful 101, and Wind Waker HD.

Thank you based Ninty

Anyone know if there are pre-order bonuses for LEGO and MH?

I am betting that Amazon.ca doesn't offer fast shipping and free shipping, right?

I picked up Little Inferno...

It's fucking great! Probably my favorite game on the eShop thus far (I have The Cave, NAN and MSF as well)...

I finished it today (the ending was...unexpected, great music) but still have about 35 combos to solve.

Fun stuff.

I need to play more of The Cave...no off-tv really hurts for me.

I've gotta post some Nintendo DISSATISFACTION. Sorry. Still love my Wii U, but Nintendo is killing me.

So Tvii doesn't work. Okay, I won't use it.
My system hard-freeze crashes whenever I use ANY of the movie apps. Okay, won't use those either.

The range of the gamepad sucks in my apartment. Okay, that's probably my fault. I live in an older led-lined building, so I sucked up, went out and bought the ethernet adapter, cables and couplers so that I can move the system to any room in my apt when i want to play it. Done.

Next, picked up Nano Assault Neo and Mighty Switch Force. Loved them on the Gamepad. Awesome. Got Balloon fight, great fun.

Wanted to finally get into MiiVerse. No online leader boards to post my score and no easy way to send anything to my friends. Okay, it's no Xbox Live, but screw it. Nintendo's learning. Growing pains. I let that go, too. The social hub isn't their forte yet unless i want to share drawings, which really doesn't interest me. Fine.

Went to the e-store. REALLY want another game other than Blops 2. Fought through the error screen that keeps popping up tonight on the E-store. Went online to discover that this is a common problem. Ignored it. Nintendo's working on it. Cutting them some slack. So they're not Xbox Live or PSN yet. It's okay. Fine. Sucked it up.

Decided to buy Ass Creed 3. Deleted Darksiders 2 from my deluxe unit and I'm only left with Zombie U (aprox 6 gigs), the OS, and the two download games.

Put 65.00 in credit on my account. Ready to download, and....

I'm really, REALLY working with Nintendo because I want to make this work.

Ass Creed 3 is TWENTY Freaking gigs. I have 19 on my system free. This means that I can, essentially only have ONE big game and a bunch of small stuff.

I didn't buy an external HD yet because there's no clear information on which will actually work well yet. People recommend some, discourage others. I'm waiting on definite answers because drives arent' cheap.

So here I am, dying to buy a new game. I really don't want discs, despite retail stores SLASHING prices on Wii U boxed games, and I"m mad that I'm double dipping full price because I already owned the game on PS3 -then sold the system.

the lack of new software has me doing dumb crap like buying games 2x - despite being old and with ZERO hint that Nintendo is going to ever do SALES to compete with boxed retail.

And now, I can't even buy it without buying another external harddrive.

Nintendo's really trying me.

Need. More. Intestinal. Fortitude.

Buying games 2Xs and getting mad? Sorry but you are a fool.

Okay my dear i will explain to you the main reason because i face it also.

This problem actually coming from using external hard desk without AC adapter.

First time i buy my wii U i bring one external HD without AC adapter then my Wii U always shown error and has black screen , very slow in online , always glitch in main screen and
all this problem came because of low power from Wii U because the portable HD without AC get some power from it.

You can get this HD :
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0052L77SA/?tag=neogaf0e-20

I think wii U better with external HD with AC adapter.

Also you can use this router to expand your INTERNET connections.

Movie apps should work. I use them all the time. Like...all the time. So no idea what's going on there.

Games with online leaderboards track those for you. No need to to post them yourself. Most games let you post screenshots of leaderboards if you want though in the miiverse community, which your friends should see on their feed.

Posting in any community will show up in your friends feed so you can communicate with them that way. Or you can just send them a straightforward message. Unfortunately, messages don't come up as notices on screen while you're playing, only when you hit the home button. The home button flashes, but like anyone notices that. You can also video call friends if you want, though you might wait a minute or so for the connection to actually go through. What the system REALLY needs is a system wide party option.

I'm not really sure why you're having trouble with eshop. I use it constantly, have bought around 6 games online, and never once had it go buggy or crash on me. Sounds odd, not sure how to help you there.

Don't add money to your balance, just buy directly using your credit card. You can pay the exact amount and you wont ever have any space change in odd amounts hanging in your balance.

While just about any powered harddrive will work, some people have had problems with usb powered drives. They're supposed to work but it's apparently hit or miss. Nintendo does have an official list of drives that are guaranteed to work though. Definitely pick one up because buying games, downloading them, deleting them, and redownloading them when they're that big sounds just downright awful. The list can be found here.

Sales aren't up to nintendo. 3rd parties have 100% control over them, which is why some games like Sonic and Tekken are a little cheaper. If you want to go all digital though, you're unfortunately going to have to buy a harddrive to store those games. It's an extra added cost and that sucks but such is life. I wouldn't expect anything like steam sales on the eshop though. The only games that seem to have regular sales are indie games...we'll see if any of the other publishers start discounting their games anytime soon.

Anywho, I hope some of that helped :-)

Incredibly helpful, actually!

quick question:

I have decided to clear Skyward Sword from my backlog. When I first started it, I played for about five hours on Wii. Now I'd like to continue on Wii U. Here comes the catch: I don't want to do a full system transfer, as I want to keep my VC games on Wii.

Is there any way to move only my save data from Wii to Wii U?

Maybe if I copied the save data to an SD card. Then I put the card in the pc to move the save data to a USB thumbstick, which I then put into the Wii U.

Has anyone done this?

Just copy the save to an SD Card on the Wii and put the same SD on the Wii U...then go to "Wii Mode" and transfer the save.

Awesome! and so easy...

I was too dumb to go into Wii Mode and looked around the U menu.

Thank you!
No prob.
I went through something similar last week since "I lost" my Zelda save. Went to wiisave.com and got a new save with the same data/finshed..etc. and put it on my U.

The last haven of Wii U owners.

So since Rayman got delayed I will be buying a different game in February. Any suggestions?

I have NLand, MarioU, ZombiU, and Sonic Racing. Wouldn't mind going for a good eShop title either, I already have Trine 2.

Nano Assault is great...Puddle too and you can get both for under $20. Retail...maybe Scribblenauts.

I'm enjoying TTT2. My first Tekken since Tekken 3.

so do I. Although I am really not good at it anymore. My last Tekken was Tag 1.

EDIT: I wish Wii-mode was more integrated, not closed off. While playing Skyward Sword, I'd love to post on Miiverse about it!

Hopefully they'll update the Wii mode to have a legacy Miiverse section. That would raise awareness of older games that are still in circulation. I would love to help guide new players in Metroid Prime or Galaxy.

I figured this would be the best place to ask:

Is the Wii U Pro Controller compatible w/ the same Wii games as the Wii Classic / Classic Pro controllers are?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the quick answer...that actually brings me to another question:

Can you even us GC/Wii Pro controllers with a Wii U at all?

GC stuff isn't compatible at all. I don't believe any Wii U games can use a Wii Pro controller. You can use a Wii Pro controller to play Wii games on the Wii U.

Edit: Some Wii U games allow for Wii Pro controller use.

So I finally got actually play one of these at my girlfriend's place the other day and wow, it really is something you have to play to have any interest in. All the trailers/ads/Nintendo Directs will never properly convey the potential of this system, and all I played was Nintendoland.

Looking to buy one now, although I'm being patient as there aren't really any games I'd buy flat out just yet.
