Is that a serious question or...? Sessler, Giantbomb dudes, IGN, and other journalists here are human beings too.
I'm not saying they aren't. They get paid to go and write about this stuff. Woe is them I guess?

Can someone document all of his failed predictions in a large spreadsheet so that we can all finally agree to ignore him?
It sounds like this should have been held back for a bit. I'm glad to have seen what we've seen; it makes me extremely excited.
But the gaming press and the legion of gamers collectively have massive blue balls and anything less than the realization of their next-gen fantasies will not suffice.
Maybe they were a little too long in that Halo bubble, getting feedback mostly from their super hardcore Halo fanbase and extrapolated from there.I love Bungie and all, but it seems they got a little cocky and thought no matter what they say, people will get excited.
Still don't get what this is.
Full-blown MMOFPS PVP like Planetside, or more MMOFPS PVE like WoW/GW2 ?

I think they might have forced this announcement out because of the increasing number of leaks on the game. At one point it was getting rather embarrassing until they came out and said "yes, it's real, we're working on this, we'll show it really soon!" and then people calmed down.

Sounds like the press isn't happy:

To get some standalone media attention without the coverage having to contend with all the other stuff about the PS4 reveal & the other games that will be shown there?
Wait what. People are disappointed because lack of gameplay shown? Fuckin' two hours ago people were losing their shit at the possibility of seeing a taste of in engine stuff and then we got a taste of in engine AND gameplay. I don't get it.
This game reminds me of Aliens: colonial marines. 6 years in development without showing anything. Maybe outsourced?
I just found your post a little silly. You said who cares about journalists...well why not? Everyone's sharing their opinions here.
I feel this kind of announcement in and of itself isn't too unusual, but the fact that they flew people out and heavily hyped it up instead of just having it at an event people already were at is.

I think this game has potential, but let's not get ahead of ourselves. Your dream is a worthy one, but Bungie didn't show any of that today - it was all talk. Even for the press that went out of their way to see it.

I certainly don't feel sorry for them complaining about travelling around and getting to see things before the average joe does. Plus they get paid to do it. That's all I'm saying.
There definitely seems to be at least some pushback from journalists who feel they're spreading their marketing campaign too thin, showed too little, talked it up too much.
Ugh. Hype levels just went to zero.
Well I wouldn't be either given this doesn't even count travel time.
More like GW1
Central hub space
Go with smaller parties on coop quests
I'm with you. It's their fucking job, what do I care.
Next time don't go cover the release of Bungie's new IP.
Chittadamus Phropecies.

And they gave us this much information:

I wasn't expecting anything. Yet when some indie kickstarter goes, "Hey guys! I want to make a game with everything in it! Here's a picture I drew" a lot of gamers are like, "Wow, amazing! The possibilities are staggering. Cannot wait! Here is 100 bucks!"

Persistent world, so no.
now that I think about it, this franchise is worse off by coming out on current gen hardware. the fundamental design for this franchise has been crippled by having to work within the constraints of ps3/360. they should release solely on next gen and use that added power to fundamentally expand the potential of the franchise.
The next gen versions of the first game won't be all they could have been and the game in general will have faced cutbacks just due to the fact that resources had to be allocated to get the next gen version out.
All in all this is just a really awkward time to start a 10 year franchise.

New avatars went up on bungie.net. Most are based off of the concept art, but a few are some new symbols.
I just can't fathom Bungie releasing a 360 game in 2014.
Just seems totally absurd.
I think most were expecting some gameplay, even before Geoff tweeted we'll be seeing in-engine footage. Seeing 3-4 second bits of a character moving doesn't do shit, especially after your game has been in development for almost 4 years now.

They haven't actually confirmed it's a persistent world I think. They've confirmed that characters are persistent, the game is always connected, and it is server based. But they have not really confirmed if missions are instances or on a persistent landscape, nor have they confirmed single dedicated servers. At least, not that I remember reading. It could very well be like Guild Wars.
