Why :p?

Completely accurate in pretty much every way - PS3 destroyed Sony's profits from all gens of Sony PlayStation products, Sony as a company is now on very shaky ground and it's problematic how much longer the company can survive without extremely successful pillars, and the PlayStation brand seems to hold no weight at all - Vita is one of the biggest bombs of all time, PS3 flopped versus past PS systems, PSP died in the USA and never recovered.

At this point we're beyond trying to act like this is hyperbole - either people can start accepting the harsh reality that we're in, or they can create some sort of intelligent argument as to why I was wrong.

Not too thrilled about the look of the 'triggers.' While they do seem slightly improved over the current ones, it's still not what I was hoping for.

What if everything but online play is premium? Party chat, store discounts, free games, betas, etc cost money but everything else is free? Would kinda be weird cause online is free on vita.

Though vita is dead sooooo

Mad Catz-inspired controller?

North of $400?

Pay to play online?

This has to be Kotaku doing that thing where you anti-hype yourself so you don't get let down. There's no way this is remotely true.

Come on Sony, the spot on my next-gen roster is still open. I need the multiplat machine to compliment my Wii U and I desperately don't want it to be an Xbox. Don't screw this up.

Would be disappointing if online gaming wasn't free. I don't think its something that should be charged for.

I've never paid for online games beyond a mmo subscription, which is about a total of 3 games. It would be like paying for steam, and I love the current PS+ system.

Well the simple argument is you're insane and doing serious mental gymnastics. Bam, done.

That is not an argument, and just serves to illustrate my point - you don't like hearing the truth, so you try to denigrate an individual with sweeping generalizations. Either form an intelligent argument, or don't bother.

The fact that 4 and 9 are unlucky or the that they won't call the Orbis, "PS4" because of the 4?

I mean the number four stopped Streetfighter 4, DMC 4, Persona 4, Mario Party 4, Ace Attorney 4, Yakuza 4 being released with the character "4" or the word "four" right?

In Japan they'll mostly likely christen it Playstation Fooru.

5 years later and we finally get a follow up comment!

Something is off regarding these recently leaked prices. If The Times & Kotaku are both correct, then for the first time between the UK & US its the UK that comes out ahead (before blasted VAT)

£300 stated by The Times is £250 before VAT. At current rates thats $462 inc VAT & $385 ex VAT

Now I am not clear on US sales tax (I think its different depending on state, please clarify if wrong) but that would give the UK price before tax, better than the US will get.

So something is a miss and my betting is Kotaku are getting their sums wrong as they are just converting from the 40,000 yen rumour

..you're sayin there's a chance? :)

If we assume that I'm not already paid up on plus for a while...

I could see them having a couple games released from their first party studios that are free with plus right out of the gate. You think they care about a game/port gong for free if it hooks you on the paid service? Cell phones are not cheaper with contract because carriers are generous.

Day 1: Killzone 3 HDX/PSABR HDX free on day one. Sure, alone it's not insanely compelling, but with other nice features, I'd bite. Especially in good faith of past performance.

Cell phones are not cheaper when you sign a contract. The cost of the cell phone is just hidden in the contract. The carrier is still paying the phone manufacturer the full amount.

I don't think you are going to see ports of old games on the PS4. I don't think developers would pony up the resources (which I would assume would be pretty large going from the PS3 to the PS4) to port a game.

Microsoft makes a ridiculous, ridiculous amount of money from XBL subs. Sony needs money really, really bad. LET'S FIGURE IT OUT

In all seriousness though, the amount of people who will actually not re-up or pay for a PS subscription if it's required for online gaming is realistically a small fraction of people, and I have to imagine that they would be willing to sacrifice those people to be bringing in hundreds of millions of dollars a year. I will be shocked if they don't do this.

Aside from that though, there were people who genuinely thought that the high-end model would be $399? Really?

Why in the world would they copy XBL? The great thing about PSN is free. Online, YouTube, Netflix, etc.

If this is the case then MS should win this gen easily.

That controller almost has to be real for sure. Looks pretty good. Still not as comfy as the 360 controller, probably, but looks more comfy than the DS3. The light bar is interesting. Wonder if it will pulse red when you shoot and stuff like that.

They're avoiding a price that is a multiple of 4 because in japan 4=death so they're really working their superstition into it

SURPRISE!

EU doesn't get the PS4 until 2014 after a price cut. ha

Was thinking maybe this, but putting chat behind a paywall may irk a few. Still from a business standpoint I imagine they want at that pot of Gold that is Xbox Live subs. If they take the MS approach I really do not see a mass wave leaving for other pastures because where would they go? All the other spots where folks have gone to avoid Live, but I don't see any mass exodus. Go to Nintendo or PC? Ok.

I'm also not sure they can make anywhere close to Live money without doing so either.

This is what I was saying as well. I think online wil probably be the only thing free.

It would be ballsy tho. To make it pay for play online. With the PSN outage in the back of everyone's mind, they would pretty much fuck themselves up.
