Kotaku Rumor: PS4 out in November, control with your phone/tablet, maybe $429/529

We have a topic stickied about addressing people's arguments, and still people never learn. Do you guys have ANY rebuttal to what I said, or are we going to keep this charade going as if Sony is not precisely in the predicament I said?
Dude. MGS4 never came to the 360 and far from being 'done', the PS3 is neck-and-neck with the 360. It could feasibly go on to 'win' the gen, given a few more years.

You were wrong. You overreacted and made some statements that didn't pan out. Big fucking deal. I'm wrong 3 times a day and it takes much less than a Final Fantasy betrayal to provoke bollocks statements from me. Don't bother defending that post.

I think this should be fairly obvious as an illustrative point, because the end result is every single thing I said ended up being true -

When's that MGS4 for X360 coming?

Also, I can't help but think that there was at least some reason that the ~30-40 mil who bought a PS3 in the last 5 years had in doing so. I know I did.

How can you complain about paying for online services?

Sony invested a lot in getting online services that can match the brand quality of MS, and looks to exceed that. PlayStation gamers have always said "as long as online is free, I don't care, I only want to play online, I don't care for cross chat, achievements", etc.

Now, surely Sony wont charge to access online, so all the extras need to be made profitable somehow.

I was really hoping the triggers were more similar to the 360's this time around. Now watch MS go and completely fuck even those up.

Well if you consider the PS3 a gamecube level failure (I don't), then they up for a wii style comback. Nowhere to go but up.
Gamecube came after N64; PS3 came after PS2.

Wii U came after Wii.

----
I believe his statement was hyperbolic, but not because his conclusion was wrong, but because the reason he used to reach it.

I'm gonna take a risk and say that all this is fake. The prices makes no fucking sense, they put 300 pounds on google and took out from the hat a 100$ more expensive SKU.

This

It's been obvious for a while now that some people have been hoping Sony charged for online, just so Microsoft's fee suddenly seems justified.

Sony is not going to charge for online play. You can try and argue all you want it's the same thing, but it's not. Online play is the key reason people play for Live.

I wish I were that optimistic. If these details are true, I think Sony may be in some trouble.
Really?
That may be the case on other boards, but I wouldn't say that is the case for many 360 users on gaf.

Now for the record, I do have Live but I am far from a fan of the service.

Which part of that infamous quote is actually incorrect and not simply overly-colorful?

-MGS4 never came to Xbox 360 :D
-The PS3 didn't sink to Gamecube level failure.
-FFXIII certainly didnt turn out to be relevant on any level worth such a reaction.
-Discounting an entire future of first party exclusives as tiny titles that will never shift units. Whoops.

So, a lot. I mean, if he was saying "PS3 will wipeout PS2 profits but ultimately wrestle back to a worldwide win" he'd be right. He didn't though, and so we get this amendment twisty mental gymnastic "I WAS SORT OF RIGHT!!" spin. For shame.

Oh well, enough Amirox. I get enough of that whenever I click a GAF youtube link :P

MP better not be under a fucking paywall. Makes things like Demon's Souls impossible to pull off on the same level.

Cell phones are not cheaper when you sign a contract. The cost of the cell phone is just hidden in the contract. The carrier is still paying the phone manufacturer the full amount.

I don't think you are going to see ports of old games on the PS4. I don't think developers would pony up the resources (which I would assume would be pretty large going from the PS3 to the PS4) to port a game.

Exactly. The cost is hidden in the subscription. I'm not saying they'd definitely be porting games over, but it is an example of something you can use the price of entry to fund.

When they announced PSplus, I didn't care about it, pretty much, at all. Now, I've been subbed for a year and a half, and don't even consider letting it expire. The value is too good. Let's see if they're willing to break a couple eggs to make an omelet with PS4.

We are that close, son.

MP under the paywall then.

I doubt that.

...

Right?

Someone say something to assure me. Come on, it makes no sense... advertise free access to online, with all the strong features, and it's an easy way to win consumers over... or maybe they figure those who choose PlayStation for being free will have no choice but to come to PlayStation?

I will suck my giant toe if Sony charges for online access, no way will they do that.

Hopefully online multiplayer is still free. I don't want to pay for online if its 60+ dollars. As rarely play online, but it still would be good to have.

I would hope the regular chat and online play is free and the rest can be on the paid service.

I've already sampled the phone/tablet stuff on 360 and don't really use it so I'm not particularly excited about that. The new controller continues to look good though, especially the new triggers. I'm completely unconvinced that those potential dollar amounts will convert to a £300 price point in the UK but we will probably know for sure in less than 24 hours so I'm not going to worry about it. I also think it would be crazy for Sony to start charging for online play but it's a huge revenue stream for MS and Sony has to be a little jealous about that.

If Sony makes us pay for a service like Microsoft does with Xbox Live, I will not be happy, and will not be buying it. That is the number one reason I don't have an Xbox anymore. Don't take this away from us Sony, please.

Kevin Dent is saying on Twitter the price will be around $350-$430 depending on the sku, but to expect to pay for services like MP and voice-chat. He also says the price is likely to be announced tomorrow.

Big, big mistake.

Sony really has a chance to market this as a consumer-friendly console. Used games, no pay for MP, etc. Oh well. I expected it, I just don't like it.

I doubt that.

Well I've been doubting that they would put MP behind a paywall. Let's stick together and believe!

Why :P?

Completely accurate in pretty much every way - PS3 destroyed Sony's profits from all gens of Sony PlayStation products, Sony as a company is now on very shaky ground and it's problematic how much longer the company can survive without extremely successful pillars, and the PlayStation brand seems to hold no weight at all - Vita is one of the biggest bombs of all time, PS3 flopped versus past PS systems, PSP died in the USA and never recovered.

At this point we're beyond trying to act like this is hyperbole - either people can start accepting the harsh reality that we're in, or they can create some sort of intelligent argument as to why I was wrong.

Every way huh?

So FFXIII was going to be PS3s savior? Even though GT5 sold more then both FFXIII versions combined?
Sony had nothing left? No 9 million seller gran turismo, no God Of War, no uncharted. Yep, nothing.
Only the hardcores stuck around huh? Yeah, 77 million of them. Same as 360.
MGS4 on 360? What happened? Well, at least you got Rising on 360.
360 took the only reason to own a PS3? Check point nº1

But yeah, completely accurate in pretty much every way. Except everything.

I don't know whats sadder, the fact that you made that post, or that you're still trying to defend it.

People still keeping track of the outcome of this generation between Sony and MS continue to surprise me. MS won between the two. Period. It doesn't matter if the unit count comes down with Sony having a slight lead - the damage done to the company and its brand has been monstrous. Sony tried to take them on head-to-head and were horribly wounded by doing so.

The important thing, at this time, is whether Sony learned from that or not. I'm hoping they did. Really, really hoping.

Love the triggers, but I don't believe the prices. I'd believe $399 and $499, or $449 and $549.
To pay for most online features? Yes, PS+ and Gaikai are going to be paid.
But I'm pretty sure that multiplayer and chat will continue to be free.
