NVIDIA to release GeForce Titan

A lot of the benefits seem to disappear as you move to 1080p, as well. Even if the card is a beast, it just doesn't make sense for me to buy right now.

Evga has it for pre-order. I am at the final stage and when I hit place order it just sits there and does nothing. Been on it for about 5 min. FUCK!

Still can't find that damn bridge anywhere, anyone found it?

I sent a tweet to EVGA_JacobF to see what's up. I am sure they'll carry it but it just isn't in the store, yet.

EDIT: pre-orders sold out on EVGA.com...not sure if I was able to get a 2nd or 3rd. My Stepdad was working on it...my bro did not respond, and my buddy was shut out. Just one thus far. I'd get up to four if I can get the orders in.

Well I have to leave for a meeting and cannot wait around anymore. Just tried for 10 min trying to do the pre-order at Evga and it just stays stuck at the "to place or hit this button" and it does nothing. SO basically I am fucked! Nice EVGA!

Honestly?

This review sold me on a 7970GE.

For $400, that thing appears to be amazing. I think I'll jump.

It's a great card. Especially in light of AMD's recent (incredible) driver improvements. Just do not buy it if you plan on going CrossFireX in the future. It's just not worth it. Best single card you can buy today for bang/buck.

EDIT: just one card for me via the EVGA pre-order. At least that's one less I have to hunt for on Monday.

Understood.

It sold me on a 680 Classified, as about 5 minutes after reading it, I went ahead and bought one for my new computer I'm putting together. So even if the Titan's a dud for me, personally (considering the price), it's still a pretty awesome day.

I just wish AMD was better at Crossfire. I've been contemplating getting the 6gb 7970 for some time. But I hear CF is a lot worse than Nvidia. And the other issue with AMD cards, is they get a lot hotter and are louder than Nvidia (at least, from what I've read of these specific models).

So it's like, I would love to switch out my 680 SLI for a higher and cheaper VRAM set up (so I can downsample). But I just know that the only way to get the performance I'm currently getting, is to get a CF set up. No single GPU is hitting that. Of course, I know some of you are upgrading from other single cards. So disregard what I'm saying about the heat/noise. Just talking about my situation with CF.

In your case, I see the temptation. You really can't beat that price/performance.

Well get up to go eat dinner... come back... and my heart has shattered into a million pieces. :(

It's just EVGA and their pre-orders. I am guessing they will allocate more on Monday for that rush. Between NewEgg, Amazon, and other retailers if you're on the ball on Monday you should easily be able to score your 1-2 or 3 cards.

I've never done an SLI setup so I can't speak for it, but their testing certainly presented a bright picture for SLI 6970's. that said, the concern is there, not to mention power draw and such.

Titan is clearly a great card. I just don't know that it's $500 better than the 6970GE for me today. Tomorrow I may feel differently. We'll see.

That's the problem with benchmarks - you can't play them or "feel" them. I've had 6970 and 7970 CF setups - they are monsters...but the "feel" when you play is a bit off. That's not the case with SLI and GTX 580s, 680s, or 690. It's a smoother experience. Whether it's drivers, NVIDIA secret sauce, etc. - I only recommend NVIDIA when doing mGPU. Don't worry about framerates being a bit up or down. Single GPU always trumps multiple GPU in smoothness, even with NVIDIA being so great with SLI.

My favorite single card has been the ASUS Matrix 7970GE Platinum (http://1pcent.com/?p=203) - it was a beast. I sold it to mkenyon. Great 1080p/120hz card...especially since it worked BF3/MoH.

Yeah, the Titan doesn't really seem worth it, if you are going for pound for pound. Not to say, it's not "worth it" to others. I can totally see why people would pay the price for it. The build.features. Don't mean it that way exactly.

But just in terms of the performance/price ratio - it doesn't add up directly IMO. I'm not the kind of person that is loyal to one company. I just go for whatever is the best value to me. The only reason I went with Nvidia these past 2 years, is IMO their build quality has been better. When I had AMD cards, the drivers weren't as good or consistent as Nvidia. The cards ran hotter, and drew more power. So I switched over.

I've heard recent AMD drivers have been consistent/great, and have substantially improved performance. I just wish the cards weren't so hot/loud when it comes to upgrading.

EDIT: Probably going to get shit. Because technically, Boost 2.0 and how it draws power IS the performance. So I guess I shouldn't say it's not worth it. I guess I just meant, for some people - they would be satisfied with FPS rates of something like a 7970 GE (when you consider the price of both and the performance of both).

I can officially confirm that the pictured SLI bridge will be released in Q2:

It's more or less a rule that top of the line high-end gpus have bad price:performance comparatively speaking to their little siblings.

Yeah, definitely. Plus, with Titan you are paying for an overall package. Like boost 2.0 + the power draw etc.

So "performance" kind of encompasses more than FPS rates. I didn't mean to say Titan is a waste of money. Obviously it's worth it, depending on what you want out of something. Or what you are willing to pay.

Maybe mkenyon will sell it to me. >.>

What I'm looking forward to with the Titans: More space, less noise. My Palit 680s aren't noisy per say but when you start to throw high resolutions and lots of details at them, they got hotter and the fans work harder - Despite a slim fan profile, they get that wind tunnel sound which can get quite annoying. Plus they are 3 slots, which means no room for my soundcard.

Now I can finally get some fairly 'quiet' cards, more room and a bump in performance - Been wanting that for so long.

I think I'll look into upgrading from a 680>Titan later this year. Maybe the price will come down/availability go up between launch and release of the 7XX series? Or will this most likely remain a premium "halo" product?

Didn't the 690 prices hold pretty steady?

The price will come down, for certain...how much so can only be extrapolated from past generations - i.e. look at the GTX 680. It launched at $499.99. It is now generally available for around $50 less. So I would not expect a huge price drop. For right or wrong, NVIDIA works hard at price control.

Excuse my ignorance, due to the Titan being a K20 littlebrother, do they require special drivers or any sort of special attention compared to the normal Kepler range? Like, can we expect to see Titan specific driver improvements / performance improvements or does it just fall into the Kepler family clean and clear.

It's a Kepler GPU, sans the Tesla stuff, so it will work from the same drivers. Can't speak to the other stuff, however, am not a driver engineer.

I hope so. I took two 24 hour posts this week at the base just to have stable internet connection so I could catch this card. Now I have a massive freakin' headache. At least I'll be back home in the states on Monday.
