Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

I beat the water monster with the dual blades character. Pretty intense. Does anyone know if the final game allows you to use ZL and ZR instead of L and R on the gamepad? That would be much more comfortable, and I don't think those buttons actually do anything. Also, can you pause while playing offline? I thought you could in the older games, but I couldn't find anything.

Full game will have ZL/ZR customization, yeah, don't worry :)

And you can pause when playing offline yes. Press start to open the menu and then go to the second tab, it should be there.

Just smashed Lagombi in with the hammer without too much bother. I have put 80 hours into Freedom Unite across the last 3 weeks though. Hyped for this game, looked excellant on 3DS, just waiting for the Wii U download now...

Am I the only one always using the item buttons instead of attack on Wii U :lol
Thankfully I won't do that error when the game launch.

Is there even a slight chance Wiimote/nun chuck support could/would be added in for the Wii U version?

There are a lot of us that put in hundreds of hours using it in Tri and really liked it a lot.

Believe it or not, he used to be way, way, way worse in the original Monster Hunter, thanks to how broken the hitboxes were back then. Never has there been a more fearsome hip check.

I'm still too scared top fight the Green Plesioth. He does a shoulder barge and hits you from about 6 miles away.

I take back saying that I wouldn't be able to take out Plesioth with a bow. Managed it on my first try. Fished it out, beat the shit out of it on land, and finished it with a shock trap + L.Barrel Bomb underwater. Felt real good, I'm properly hyped again.

afaik no Wiimote support, although it supports the Wii's classic controller

Lagombi is easy??? That thing wouldn't die no matter how many times I hit him, even when he looked pretty wounded. Only killed him near the end.

Loved both versions, but with the 3DS I definitely would need the frankenstick. Turning around whenever I dodged Lagombi was a chore.

Wii U version is day 1.

Use the target button! Just tap the hell out it! It's so easy and fast!

To use the target button, switch it on on the touch screen when you are in the same zone as a boss and then quickly tap L once to target the boss. Beats the hell out of swinging the camera around manually on both versions.

I played the 3DS demo on a regular 3DS. WTF is up with the text? How do they think that is acceptable? The controls are annoying at best. Visually the game is decent looking. I'll wait a day and give the demo another go, but it looks like Monster Hunter just isn't for me. I wanted to like it, but the overall experience is not a positive one.

Hah, I have no idea how this game works. It looks really crisp on Wii U though.

But how do you kill monsters? I was beating on one for like 10 minutes (was just hammering x) and it wouldn't die. What am I doing wrong?

And why are there so many loading screens?

First time with MH.
Moving the camera around while fighting is a pain the ass (will try the target button + switch as mentioned above).
Also while battling the "easy" monster (rabbit?) it got stuck near an exit and when I tried to hit him my warrior went to the near area.
What a is silly thing (especially considering the loading).

Also the surfing the rabbit did often was quite annoying.

So after trying both versions of the demo, here's my thoughts. I loved each, since it's the same game I had a blast with both fights, even if I lost against the second one. In terms of graphics, to me, it looks like they both are exactly the same with one at a higher resolution, like running morrowind at a much higher resolution vanilla compared to default. Textures, particle effects, I don't notice a difference besides the resolution difference of the Wii-U and 3DS. For me I did better on the 3DS due to the depth of the 3D image, and I love that digital Dpad.

Considering I'm not a very big online player of games, chances are I'll hold onto 20 bucks and get the 3DS version, even if my Wii-U could use a new game, I still need to get Trine 2 on it.

This is what I was trying to get at a few posts ago. The game isn't just go in and swing randomly. You won't get anywhere doing that. You need to do what each weapon is suppose to do.

With hammers, you should be doing the super pound to the head as much as possible and then the triple pound followed up by a direct charge again so you can skip out on the downtime after your golf swing.

There's so much to know about what your weapons best attacks are and when to use each attacks.

You were born for the long sword. Also might wanna try hammer.

Thanks for the tip, the longsword was certainly nice, but the hammer wasn't :(

just tried plesioth for the first time (after wrecking the bunny a 1000 times)
killed it 1st try with dual swords. either they are way waayyy overpowered or they just fit my play style 100%.

so I guess I will stick with them...

This is my first time playing a MH game as well. Took me quite a long time to finally beat the Lagombi. I tried with Dual Swords first and that didn't go so well. Tried with the Long Sword next a couple of times and didn't get it then either. Finally I tried the Hammer and ended up getting him, with only dying once this time too.

It's pretty fun but I'm not sure how interested I am. If anything I will for sure get the 3DS version though. I tried the Wii U version and it just didn't feel as good playing to me as it did on the 3DS.

In MH3, to be an effective hammer user you have to charge-pound most of the time AND to make sure you pound the head to get a chance to make it dizzy.

spamming X is not very effective for hammers.

you use long swords for spamming!
i kid, i kid!

Gonna download this tomorrow. Looking forward to popping my cherry. Thanks 3rd parties. Your incompetence may lead me to a good game. Kinda like how I got a copy of AOE2 in a certain way and it led me to like the genre.

I agree
I'm not kidding!

lol

Wow, I really suck at this game. It would be nice if there was some sort of tutorial or something. Maybe even tell me what the buttons do before you drop me in the middle of the game? Doesn't seem like it is my cup of tea, but I can see where others could enjoy it.

There is a digital manual for both versions. Press the home button to look at it.

I want this now! Amazon has free release date arrival, so I ordered it there. If I can, though, I'll try to get an advanced copy somewhere... Don't fail me, Chinatown...

I'm a great sword user, good to hear I've been using it properly all these years, haha. Maybe this time I'll finally get to beat the high ranked monters. I must have put 1000 hours into this series, but I never got up to the highest ranks. =/ I get hit too much, heh. And I never read faqs.

So I played 3 on PSP, and I ran into a couple weird spots concerning the bunnybear's hitbox... A couple of times, it charged at me and just nudged me to the side, no damage. That NEVER happened in the psp version. Glitch? Or did they just make it a bit harder for the monster to hit you when you're standing to the side on purpose? Pretty weird.

And FUCK Plessy. =P

The real game is much better at hand holding. There are a TON of tutorials, and you have a bunch of gathering/explore the mountain/kill 15 small monster quests before they throw you up against the big ones. It's still a lot of trial and error with fighting the bosses, but the demo doesn't give you a good feel for the game. I would've had a gather quest, a bunny fight, and maybe a rathian fight or something much harder.

I managed to defeat the rabbit monster thing. I loved how this games runs smooth on the 3DS.

Is someone able to confirm if framerate is solid while playing multiplayer in the JPN version?

Demo is ok. Looks like an uprez'd DS game but still better than Tri overall. I played a lot of Tri though, do not sure I want the final game.

I've beaten Lagombi with every weapon now woohoo! The demo equipment sets are pretty damn good.

Plesioth, though ... fuck ... I don't even want to >:(
