Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

What I don't like is when I chase the monster, I ended up appearing in front of it in the next area. Or the monster stands too closely to the border that I ended up moving areas when circling him. Needs time to adjust, I guess.

you can't see the monster's hit points, and consider it a boss fight.

please don't get discouraged! pick a weapon, practice away from the monster and take advantage of your companions (let them take the damage). control is 'weird' but it will make sense eventually. always be aware of your currently health and stamina, heal away from the monster.

this demo is not very newbie friendly, but i'm pretty sure the real game will have an extensive tutorial like in MH3.

What's a good weapon set for a beginner?
I selected the sword + shield, and got destroyed. -_-

Just defeated the Lagombi using Sword & Shield. My first ever monster hunt! First try, he fell down just about time. Feels good man. There's a huge sense of "Fuck Yeah" when he fell.

I'll try another weapon later, maybe ranged. The sword & shield feels too...vanilla.

well... taking the looting out of the demo is like pulling the dick out before you orgasm.

kicking some chakalakas isn't just the same.

So, I've never played a Monster Hunter game before, but really wanted to try it out.
Downloaded the demo for the 3DS, selected the rabbit, and the sword + shield.
I got destroyed by the bunny, but I want to try it again.

Impressions:
The graphics are lovely, and the 3D effect is great!
Can't cancel attacks halfway. Wat.
Enemies are tough. This isn't a hack-slash game.
The armor is bombastic.
Sword + shield is not for me. lol

I want to play some more until I rip that bunny to shreds.

You can cancel certain attack and other not, that's a deliberate gameplay choice. With practice you'll know which attack can be cancelled by dodge, by a charge attack, or can't be cancelled at all. And it'll feel nice :)

The bunny is one of the easiest enemy in the game I believe, but it's normal to get wrecked on your first play by "easy" monster. You'll get the hang of it rather quickly though.

Armor collecting is one thing that makes MH so awesome and why I like it better than most of its clone :D

SnS is considered an easy weapon for novice but I personally always hated it because it felt so weak. Still it's a fast weapon and it's easier to maneuver than other weapons. Avoid ranged weapon at the beginning, they're much harder to get good at and monsters will hit you harder. Honestly, the best way to decide which weapon fits you best is to try them and see what kind of gameplay you like the most.

Two more goes at him and I beat the 'easy' rabbit. I've used the Long Sword, Bow, and Sword & Shield. Liked the last the best. Will give the hammer a go as a lot of people seem to be enjoying it. Pretty sure the 'hard' boss is going to kill me in less than five minutes.

This is probably a common occurrence, but...

I grabbed the demo without any knowledge of the series and got totally mauled. Since I'm a pretty crappy gamer, I'm figuring this series isn't really for me, ahaha.

The deserted island was rather nice though and makes me want to see more 3D exploration games on the 3DS.

You'll probably get destroyed with most of it, maybe just pick a Long Sword and just mindless slash up the easy Monster to feel good about yourself for now :lol.

MH has been really lightened in difficulty over the years but for a fresh player trying to comprehend the control and weight of the game without being weened in (which the full games all do) it's still pretty rough. I do not think their demos are good for anything except to give a taste to returning players.

(note that I am applying my knowledge of MH3 here)

sword + shield is good for elemental damage. generally its raw damage is low but its elemental damage is high. the rabbit is probably weak against fire and plesioth maybe fire or lightning (WAG, I only played MH3).

generally being defensive in MH3 will get you killed, you have to be aggressive! I prefer long swords for elemental damage and quickness.

Try Great swords. They are slow but have high raw damage. You can charge it, and thats the preferred way but its better that you get used to it first. It can also act as a shield.

For a little lulz, try lance and keep on charging!

It's a video of the Demo released today. Surrounded by a very anime presentation! I do a lot of videos on Youtube. So I will be uploading a lot of footage of this game. If you see me online please join me maybe you will end up in a video of mine! Thank You all for the warm welcome. Now it's time to do a video of the 3DS demo!
holy cow, it literally took you 39 months to be reviewed? Man, I FEEL you and congratz :)

Well, he probably just means 3D free roam, of which there probably isn't a lot of on the 3DS. Roam around the zones, find the little nooks and crannies, the good gathering spots, etc. It used to be calming back in MH1 where you'd have to fully suit up, Commando style, for most of the current encounters :lol

Wouldn't surprise me. It seems pretty inconsistent. I waited at least 18 months, all the time witnessing juniors get their accounts activated after far less time. Oh well, no matter. We're all here now.

And what was the controversy of playing monhun on Wii U with the analogs? Im having no problems, or issue with time reaching buttons.

It feels like there is a slight deadzone problem where the camera isnt moving until the sticks pass a certain point. At that point, it feels like the camera then swings too fast. I would imagine at the very least the camera speed will be adjustable in the final game.

My only real complaint so far that i dont think will be fixed in the final product is that the monster camera snap is not instant. There is a slight delay from the button press to the camera swivel that is annoying me a bit. The Wii U version will be my main platform though, so i dont see it being a real issue for me thankfully.

Hey can we use the circle pad pro for the demo? I tried doing all the stuff to activate it, like hitting the triggers rapidly and moving it around, but I couldn't get it to work. Gonna be real dissapointed if i cant use it as the virtual D pad is meh at best

oh,wow! It's probably some kind of random function that selects which member to be approved to make the system fair, which works more or less most of the times, but there should be some threshhold, like putting those who have been waiting for more than x month on priority.

but yeah, nice thing is we are all here :)

as much as i love MH1 that game had some fucking shocking design decisions, and there and learning curve was unreal, as a purely offline player its a wonder anyone finished it, basically i liked it cause the graphics blow my mind, beating my first ratholos will stay with me to the end of my days, but that shit was harcore...people moaning about this demo have no idea how good they got it lol

Yeah I remember seeing many times new group of juniors and I was not one of them =/

Anyways I find myself getting back to this demo again and again. Well that means I'm getting this game the moment they put it on the eshop.

It straight up tells you that the CPP doesn't work with the demo when you boot it up.

Rathlos? Hell, the first KUT KU was a literal celebration of cheers for our online duo. That fucker used to be able to hit, especially when you're in newbie armor. Of course, in later game you could still farm them down in 45 seconds for parts to sell for revenge through lance cheese (good ol MH1 lance cheese) though.

I loved it like that though, I wish they would have a difficulty mode or option that could stress item use is all, I did enjoy the farming part of the series and it's been fairly invalidated by easier monsters and all of the shortcuts to gathering. It's just my personal taste, though.

Okay, I'm going to sound really noobish but how does one go deeper underwater? That Piesoth (sp?) on the 3DS version avoided most of my attacks by virtue of being underwater.

Dude, you are brining me way back. I was in the same boat. The original blew my fucking mind which is why i gave it a shot despite having no way to connect online.

I put in 40 fucking hours into that game before i could beat Rathalos. It didnt matter how careful i was, after 50 minytes i would run out of potions or simply not due enough damage. I was practically in tears when i took him down. Those first egg runs before that fight where scream inducing. All those hours spent mining disparately praying for a Machalite ore so i could upgrade my already basic loadout. Good god. I cant believe i gave it the time.

The Farm in freedom 1 on psp made single player somewhat a legit option. God bless that design decision.

offline you couldn't even buy potions, blue mushrooms and honey hunts, which you had to search befor epretty much every quest, i didn't even know about mega potions before i beat monblos :P and alot of the weapons required online only material, so you were basically forced yo use great swords or hammers, i fisnished the whole game with a great sword called sential which only had 500 attack. awww good times.

preach it brother.

having to put materials and items manually into your box every single time o_0 how did that ever get through testing! and then when you thought you had beated the game and finished monoblos, all the 6 star quests appear and kick your ass all over again lol good times.

this is my first time playing monster hunter in a few years and that second boss destroyed me. the first boss was quite easy for me as i got used to the controls. this game can't come out fast enough

Over 10 minutes trying to kill Lagombi. Kept mixing up while trying to remember controls for everything. Not really in the mood for an underwater battle so I'll leave Plesioth for some other time.

1) Use the camera lock on.

wut. Claw grip is dead?

Never really played MH before, got totally owned by the Lagombi on my first try against it with the great sword. Second time around, picked the lance, somehow came out on top. I sort of want to keep fighting it until I learn how to take it down with little trouble, but the replay limit is rearing its ugly head. Theres a ton of weapons, and two different monsters requiring totally different approaches, theres no way 30 times is enough for me
