Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - Demo out [Updated: FAQ and Help]

Man the Lagombi is so easy. I have beaten him with every weapon first try except with the bow. Then again, I don't think the ranged weapons are my thing. The Plesioth is pretty hard though. I had no chance yet. Wish I could play the demo in multi to play with people who know more what they are doing.

Also someone needs to tell me how to use the lock on feature. At one point I did it by accident but I can#t figure out how to do it myself. I have read the OP but there has to be a way to do it without using the Gamepad's touchscreen right?

As a noob i'm not sure what to make of this game. Was shocked when I realised it wasn't an open world game!

My main concern is the size of the game. I hear people have put 600 hours into Tri, how do you do that when there are only 18 monsters? I've read there are 11 different areas in Ultimate, only 6 of which are for singleplayer mode, and 2 of those are shown in the demo, which doesn't leave much left to see (or is that not the point). Even upping the monster count to 51 doesn't lead me to think theres anywhere near 600 hours worth of playtime.

Btw, this is not a whinge, I genuinely don't understand :)

This is my first experience with MH, and I have to say I really liked the demo. I can see this being so much fun playing with friend online. Day 1 for sure ( Wii U ).

what your not understanding is this is a loot driven crafting/farming game so, your trying to get rare drops to complete weapons or armor, and fighting the same monster on a different level, or paired with another monster, or using different weapon classes or at a different difficulty level completely changes the experience.

Beyond the grinding/looting aspect that many people notice, the core gameplay is just fun and addictive. Mastering a particular weapon class against every monster can easily take 100+ hours - now multiply that with all the classes that play differently from one another.

Co-op also adds a ton of replay value since no hunt is ever identical. Then there are speed runs, challenge runs, etc for the truly hardcore.

Well I just tried the easy mission with a dual blade, now I kinda enjoyed it. The combat still seems clunky to me tho. And that rat monster totally kicked my ass :'(

the combat is the opposite of clunky, its all very deliberate, you need to study the weapons and how and when is best to use them.

can i suggest reading the FAQ in the Op if your struggling :)

^ also there is a dual swords vid posted above by ICEMAN

I would say that sword and shield is the best to start with. It is a well balanced weapon, good mobility, speed and utility.
Bow is also good since it has great mobility.

You press the little icon on the touch screen to turn the feature on. Then you just press L to have the camera center on the monster. Once it's on, you don't have to use the touch screen icon anymore, just spam L to keep the camera on the Monster.

If you don't touch the icon on the touch screen, then L will rotate the camera to be forward facing for your character.

Believe it or not, the localized name for "Urukususu" was one of the hardest names to decide. For the localized name we decided to base it off of the Greek word for hare, "lagos". The "-mbi" part was to give the name a unique, cute sound overall, ala "Bambi".

It's funny. I wouldn't have guessed rabbit except for the fact that Panne from Fire Emblem Awakening looks just like Lagombi when she is transformed.

I feel like I'm using my potions way too often. I think I went through 5 to 8 (on average) fighting the Lagombi. Am I just playing terribly (aka I should be dodging/rolling more) or is that a normal amount of potions?

This probably sounds like a dumb question but I don't have any MH playing friends to compare with.

which potions? 5 to 8 mega potions is definitely not something you want to burn on a monster like that. But those first aid potions are free and vanish when the quest is over, I think you usually get 4 on village quests. So don't feel bad about using them.

When you take damage the 'red' portion of your health bar will recover over time. With certain items you can recover it very quickly. So if you want to conserve potions wait for it to fill back up, but waiting to heal of course comes with its own risks.

your get better once you learn the monsters routines and tells, just bare in mind when you get to g-rank, monsters will be 2-3 hit killing you, some monsters have OHKO moves, so defence and evaision are massive parts of gameplay, but they come with time, Lagombi is pretty small fry and in time you will wonder how you ever had any trouble with him.

I found this in the MH Wikia formus, thought it may be useful to someone:
Bow
R + X + A = Melee attack
Weapon out + X + A = Apply coating
R (hold) = Aim (Using the D-pad)
Forgot to mention X + A, rain of arrows (Arc Shot).

"Drains a monster's stamina, and can stun them as well, different bows have different types of arc shots and power."

Welcome back Bows. Will be my main weapon in MH3U!

After playing the water level, i have to say that this game is not for me. I might pick up this game when it is on sale but not at $59.99. I think the game is great and requires a lot of patience to get good at it, but the camera and being hit back into zones and other things have put me off. Also i don't think ill put to much time into it so im done for now.

I guess the next wii u game i'm picking up is pikmin 3.

Scratch dommage is a pretty cool mechanic. The risk/reward game of waiting/not waiting is fun. Somehow, I always end up losing that fucking game ("Oh, that's fine, I'll just hang back and wait for that ginormous line of red to feel back up in green. Move like a butterfly, hit like a... SHITNOOONOOOO AAAARRA!! *splat*). But ..., yeah, fun nonetheless!

Really need to work on that. A big rule in MH is that it's not worth landing a hit if you're gonna get hit too. It's better to just look for another opportunity. 5-8 Mega Potions is a lot for someone like Lagombi.

Hi this is not in the FAQS but its there a demo limit? like 3 Try? 10 will be just nice.

And can the save file or anything carry forward to the real game like EO4?

Is there always a time limit?

Yes, but it's normally 50 minutes for standard quest. It comes into play early on when your weapons a weak and with some of the later monsters that have a massive amount of hit points. But generally, it won't be your biggest concern.

Thanks, Guess the recent demos that can carry data to main game spoiled me.

This demo is a bit different than the EO4 demo, in that EO4 actually starts you off at the beginning of the game. MH3U demo basically just showcases a bunch of weapons and armour you won't be able to make until you're a hundred hours into the game.

If they kept it like in P3rd, there's 3 types of Barrages:

-Spread: Covers a wide area; great for large monsters like the Raths.
-Focused: Covers a relatively small area: great for focusing on individual parts/smaller monsters.
-Blast/Explosive: Covers a small area similar to Focused, but instead of a Barrage of arrows, it launches an explosive blast. (Think like a missile of sorts.)

What you get is dependent on the Bow you have.

Plesioth was way smaller than I thought he'd be. Also, he has a really adorable run animation.

monster sizes can vary wildly but I think they are fixed for the demo. I've seen some big ass plesioths in my time.

also just found this in my really old MH picture directory:

I think it's excellent design that you have to use a demo activation just to access the manual. Bravo to the genius at Nintendo who thought this up.

The Wii U's default controller is pretty horrible. Nothing feels like it's in the right place aside from the x, y, a, b buttons being in the cardinal directions and the spacing between those buttons being okay.

Overall I'm not sure what to think. On the plus side, it's monster hunter. On the minus side, those spazzes that pass as companions are awful and remind me of everything I hate about playing with randoms online. Also, fleeing bosses that decide to take breathers by the exit just past where you can reach them... This is why I hate the way zones are designed. Such BS.

I can understand that. Maybe you will enjoy it if you get a chance to pick it up for cheaper.

For what it's worth, the bulk of your hunting is done on land, not underwater. Also, if you are getting knocked back into zones, then you shouldn't be chasing/attack monsters near zone borders. One reason is that is limits your ability to strategically reposition yourself. Another reason is that you can get knocked back into another zone ;). I usually prefer making the monsters follow me back to a more open area of the zone, land or underwater.

The armor in the demo is G rank, right? Or were the Tri armor sets completely redesigned?

Also, thanks DaBoss! Your advice was very helpful, managed to beat Lagombi with both the light bowgun and the bow now.

I think it's just that I dont like having to touch the screen to rotate the camera

I think I'd much prefer to play this on a console like Tri. The L auto center on monster is nice but I find it's not as much to my liking as another analog stick would be.

I'm tired of using the claw (reverse claw in this case) for handheld games.

I'll probably pick this up if I ever get a Wii U.

I will say I was surprised by how good the game looks. I was expecting it to look a lot worse than it actually does.

Apologies if this was brought up before, but in the WiiU version, are the camera controls set to rotate a fixed amount no matter what?

It felt abnormally hard to adjust the camera to me, but maybe I'm just out of practice?

Yes, it's digital. But it's something you'll get used to.

I think they were G-Rank. I don't think Azure Rathalos armor can be gotten in non-G-rank quests. Not sure if they completely redesigned the Tri armor sets. I would assume that the armor sets in Tri generally stayed the same with some minor changes here and there.

And no problem, glad to hear it helped. :)

Use lock-on. It is really helpful.

When do monsters ever camp the line though? They are either coming at you or running from you.

Exhausted, limping monsters tend to stop whenever they feel like it. Presumably this is a game design decision to allow players to wail on weak monsters. They will also stop past the exit line where melee weapon characters can't reach them.

It's not as if it hasn't always been an issue with MH, but rather that they're sticking to zones and not fixing the problems associated with the zone exits.
