Will Shadow Fall be your first proper Killzone?

Other than the graphics, there was almost nothing compelling to me in that demo. I know it was early, but the demo itself just didn't really wow me. The playspace was as small as you'd see it last generation, followed by an on-rails flight segment not 3 minutes in? Ehh... just not very cool to me, it'll take more than smoke and mirrors. A game like Watch Dogs is more in line with what I'd like to see, but apparently that works on previous gen, too, so who knows what we may see going forward.

I have read the op a few times and I am still not clear sorry. Are you saying that controller lag relates to your definition of killzone. I liked 2 and 3 and will buy this. I hope they do more with character development. Does that help sorry.

I think the killzone series has the ability to give a great story but like 90% of FPS games you don't get most of the story during the campaign.KZ3 ending on the other had is the absolute worst ending you could give a "3" franchise that i ever had the chance of playing.I mean i hope later down the line they retcon that shit.I hope they don't go the CoD route this time.

Aside from some level design (i'm talking layouts, not looks) and story related issues, I think KZ2 and 3 are amazing. They need to get a better writer in there.

Also... the music is highly forgettable. One of the things that helped series like Halo is the iconic soundtrack. They need music that really stands out, and play it at pivotal moments in the game. Watching cut scenes in KZ3 - there is just this complete lack of presentation and audio... its kind of hard to explain. But it makes you not care about whats going on.

Gameplay is great in all games, even if its varies from one to the next.

Dunno, the story seams like something from WW2. Its not interesting, we all know how this will end:

The people will unite, the government has over interests. The curtain wall will collapse, and both people will become one.

lol you really have no idea what Killzone is about but keep on pulling things from your ass if you want to look like a dumbass.

I've been a member of the Killzone Defence Force since 2004

Honestly this demo looked a LOT less appealing to me than KZ2 did. Entirely artistic reasons.

This has been the most interesting KZ to me just based on the demo. I get tired of dreary settings. That's part of the reason I couldn't get into the Fallout games.

Played every Killzone. While I felt the first was rather tepid, and hasn't aged gracefully, I loved both Killzone 2 and Killzone 3. Liberation ain't bad either.

Looking forward to Shadow Fall. What really pleases me is they seem to be advancing the story in a meaningful way. The whole "Berlin Wall" aspect is great, and Guerrilla told me they're gonna try and blur the lines between good and evil this time -- exactly what I want to hear, as someone who sympathizes with the Helghast way more than the ISA.

So yeah, not my first. Into it, though.

I think this color palette was definitely a lot more pleasing, the gameplay still looked very standard FPS. maybe KZ2 had it's own unique flavor, input lag and all, haven't played much of 3 other than demo to form an opinion, this looked maybe more responsive in aiming and moving overall. I like the art direction, generally like futuristic cities like that, it looked really nice, though nothing about this demo indicated it was anything more than just a pretty background (I hope someone explores this kind of locale for open world games in future, it's pretty non existent right now).

I was hoping they'd show a new IP that was said they were working on years ago, this was a bit disappointing to see instead. If you liked KZ you'll probably like this one too, can't see it if someone weren't into it now like it, KZ games always had pretty graphics after all and nothing else was any different here to pull someone who previously wasn't pulled into this series.

edit: I'm curious why it's not called KZ4 though, Is it because they don't want to make it seem you need to play previous games? how they are going to name the sequel from now on? only with a new subtitle? same for Infamous.

Killzone has some great lore behind it, I only wish they would make a RPG or another genre that can focus more on the lore than the view of a single soldier in the field.

Liked both Killzone 2 and Killzone 3 (don't get the hate for the third one). Will get this on launch as well - you need to have something to play huh?

Honestly if devs don't have ideas anymore (even the slightest bit of imagination or new stuff, I'm not asking for the moon), they should stop making FPS on consoles already. It's been a long time without anything interesting at this point.

what kind of BS thread is this??

KZ2 has the best MP this gen and KZ PS4 has some (******hidden***) elements to it

easily it will be the biggest launch title in console gaming history

Played through Visari Square. KZ2 is kind of like playing a scifi war game directed by David Fincher. I just stared in awe last night at the lighting, the wind and lightning effects, the smoke, the particle effects, the gun models, the impact your bullets make on the environment. God what an amazing looking game. One of the great achievements in art and design in video games

Killzone probably has my favourite multiplayer out of any fps. The single player campaigns have always been generic trash though. It's definitely not a game anyone should buy just for the campaign. Fans of multiplayer should really give it a chance though.

If it's anything like KZ3 I'm not interested. The controls in KZ2 were good. You either liked it or didn't but there were good. It had a unique feel to it. It felt fresh to me. They ditched it and brought in a bunch of SMGs into KZ3 for spray and pray. Terrible.

Why are some people trying extra hard to find fault with a launch demo? That's my question.

How many FPS have awesome ground breaking stories? IMO there was nothing wrong with it. They found a certain style of telling the story and kept consistent to it. Although, I must admit that they f'd up the KZ3. Some parts felt like sharp cuts. Feels like there was a lot taken out/missing from some cut scenes.

Played all Killzone games, even the one on PSP (liberation). I like the series, tho I wouldn't call it a toptier franchise. I seems that Sony is on a path to reboot all it's IP's, hence the lack of numbering the games. So who knows how this game is going to turn out to be. Maybe it will have a Mass Effect kind of setup, where the overal hub of the game is the city itself. You can travel to different parts and activate the missions (levels). Maybe they will introduce a more RPG (adventure) like approach where you can interact with NPC's. I also expect if this one is a big success, they will call it's sequel "Shadow Fall 2" and drop the Killzone name.

KZ3's story was so wasted that I thought I didn't want a KZ4. But I'm liking the premise of Shadow Fall. A Berlin wall like story could have great potential... If they don't screw it up like the last time (specially after KZ2's ending. How the hell do you screw up that opportunity, GG?).

Bought Killzone 2 at launch and I can't even remember why I did. Was a pretty good game though, but the online didn't interest me so sold it.

Rented Killzone 3 and didn't think anything much of it, but it wasn't a bad game by any means.

Will probably give the new one a go but don't think I'll buy it, probably rent it.

KZ2 is the best FPS that I have played this gen.

Visari Square was incredible. That final battle leading to Radec was simply insane. Definitely my standout moment of the game. The battle on the spaceship was also fantastic.

KZ3 really was a letdown to be honest. I can't believe how they botched the game so badly after such a brilliant campaign in the second game.

A fan since the first one...even had posters of it around the room (like the orange/textured one given on magazines). Owned and played each since then (PSP version included of course). At the same time I never was in a rush to play and finish them.

'4' look amazing of course...but I'm waiting to see if the game per se offers some interesting additions in general more than just the good looks.

I have said in another thread, this is probably their last chance to get Killzone just right and be a big 5+ million seller. They need to do everything right.

- Ability to go prone, not sure why you haven't been able to do that yet, it's about time
- Objective/Spec Ops multiplayer online AND offline/splitscreen
- Campaign multiplayer, up to 4 players online AND offline/splitscreen
- Addictive multiplayer gaming
- Perks/Weapons customization
- Very polished SP and MP
- Good voice acting
- Good script/story

They also need to come up with something to separate themselves from the competition. The fact that it's a launch game means more people will give it a chance. R1 sold way more than the rest of them, probably combined. GG, polish your game and get this shit right and this may be your break out game in the Killzone franchise, otherwise this franchise needs a big break.
I agree.

I think everything you have said has been spot on, but honestly, going prone is overrated. Killzone doesn't need it. We've got the cover system, and that's fine.

I don't why so many people support the Helghasts. Neither side is pure good but the Helghasts are far worse in my opinion. I mean, they are ran by a dictator who murders his own civilians that don't fall in line with his ideals and has a commanding officer who kills his own soldiers for dress code violations. And heck, Visari even got so demented he nuked his own capital city and all their civilians. There's plenty of stuff wrong with the Helghasts as well. Helghasts attacked Vekta first.

Meanwhile the Earth and Vekta alliance don't seem nearly as bad. They sent the ISA to Helghan simply to capture that malicious dictator who murders his own people and staged a full frontal attack on their planet. They didn't order them to kill the man and then nuke their whole darn planet, you can blame Rico for all of that.

Anyways I'm really excited for this Berlin Wall aspect as well. There is definitely some good and evil in both factions, so blurring that line even further is very welcome!

Killzone (PS2)
Killzone Liberation (PSP)
KZ2 (PS3)
KZ3 (PS3)

Killzone Mercenary (Vita)
Killzone Shadow Fall (PS4)

Am I missing anything ? I played the all. Loved the all. Now I need a Vita and a PS4 haha

The kill zone games are technically excellent, but their gameplay is mediocre. Terrible storytelling, generic campaigns and bland level design. They really need to pull a page out of better designers' books.

Only Killzone Liberation on PSP

Ah ok thanks :( Still somewhat hopeful for them but it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I have read the op a few times and I am still not clear sorry. Are you saying that controller lag relates to your definition of killzone. I liked 2 and 3 and will buy this. I hope they do more with character development. Does that help sorry.

Sorry I could have been clearer I don't remember if I played 1 or 2 but the controller lag really got to me. Someone cleared up that it was a lot better in KZ3 so I am hopeful it will be the same with the next game.

Aside from some level design (i'm talking layouts, not looks) and story related issues, I think KZ2 and 3 are amazing. They need to get a better writer in there.

Shame about the music...I listened to the new gameplay footage with headphones and love the sound effects!

It's strange I read quite a few posts complaining of KZ3's ending but didn't much about it before. Bit of a shame for the fans, hopefully they can fix some of the damage with the sequel.

I've played a Killzone game once but that shockingly bad popup. So... yes? At least I guess it'll be the first one I've purchased.

I'm not sure myself but the new one does look good, so much in the environment yet I don't remember seeing any popup thankfully.

Just curious, what were you hoping to see? I see this complaint a lot but I think it's from people who didn't look closely at the video and have a mixed perception of the previous gen was actually capable of- the battle landscape and detail alone was huge, not to mention the lighting, smoothing, textures and reflections etc.
