all that I loved:

SSX
PES
NBA Street
MGS
Final Fantasy
Zero Escape
Silent Hill
GTA
Resident Evil
Monkey Island
Gran Turismo
Ratchet and Clank
WRC
Frequency and Amplitude

only FF Versus and The Last Guardian can save us!

EDIT: I forgot Soul Calibur

Dino Crisis? That was last gen.

Other M is the biggest offender for me. Before it came out I'd have considered it impossibly bad. An incredible miscalculation on every level. What were they thinking. I still find it hard to process.

I need a drink. Damn.

It wasn't the biggest and worst offender, but it was the blow that hurt the most. Final Fantasy and Resident Evil were used to having some bad games in their library, but the Metroid series was pristine up to that point.

Splinter Cell, too.

I disagree. GT5 was a disjointed mess of a game at launch, and in that regard isn't much better now. It's like a load of different features, or separate games thrown together via an appalling menu system, rather than one game full of content, like GT4.

The time just compounds the matter when looking at what was done with it, not the reason people have a problem with it.

This, and the physics are the worst I have ever seen in a driving game. Going back to Forza 4 and I was just reminded of how good it is compared to GT5.

DQ..? 9 is the best selling in the series and 10 is the most succesful console RPG in ages. Also the series is much more present then it ever was.
Zelda? Sure the sales took a dive except twilight princess but qualitywise it wasnt bad at all

PES? Play playmaker(wii version) best soccergame ever

I dont think other m is bad at all. I enjoyed it about as much as i enjouyed 3 albeit it was shorter

Only one I can think of that slid way down the hill....

Mass Effect 3.

One very obvious reason it sunk the franchise: the ending. The purpose of the Reapers and the overall conclusion was a huge letdown even for me and I'm generally easy to please. It's still probably the best franchise this gen, but man did Bioware royally screw this up. It still boggles my mind how they let this pass.

Silent Hill actually started going back uphill with Downpour. Great game. Its no SH 2 or 3, but its the closest they've gotten since. Or any other game in the genre for that matter.

Resident Evil was the most disappointing for me. Just continued down a road of shit that is absolutely nothing like the original games.

Some of the obligatory obvious mentions.

Final Fantasy
Silent Hill
Resident Evil
Devil May Cry
Metroid
Metal Gear
Tony Hawk's Pro Skater
Gran Turismo
Sonic the Hedgehog(though things have become sort of... hit or miss..)

In particular Final Fantasy seems a fall from grace.

I have no originality whatsoever.

Well I thought Silent Hill and Resident Evil went "down hill" last gen with SH4 and RE4, even though I liked both of those they weren't as good as their predecessors. I thought Homecoming was okay but I really liked Downpour a lot -- and I saw that most people who actually played Book of Memories on Vita very much enjoyed it, so I don't think Silent Hill went to some horrible god awful place this gen. RE5 and RE6 were fun but not RE games to me, which is exactly how I feel about RE4. So I don't think those franchises hit some major downhill slope this gen, not for me anyway.

Final Fantasy, on the other hand, Jesus -- but I could say that about that company as a whole. Final Fantasy XIII is just a victim of that.

Bomberman. It's not even debatable.

OTOH, Tomb Raider emerged from a pool of shit, scrubbed up and rose to heaven.

See, we aren't in the boardroom. We don't care about sales.

Ever notice how the best selling games are the worst? Final Fantasy XIII was the fastest selling Final Fantasy, I hear that Sticker Star is the best selling Paper Mario game and you say the lifeless DQ9 was the best selling.

Anyway, my list.

- Paper Mario
- Zelda
- Final Fantasy
- 3D Mario (yes I said it, I do like 64 and Sunshine better because it felt like a connected world where Galaxy felt unconnected). I know this is an unpopular opinion. No need to post just to tell me that.
- Dragon Quest

Castlevania has been a real mixed bag for me. I loved the fuck out of the DS titles for the most part - but I just couldn't find myself able to stay interested in Lords of Shadow. Hoping LoS2 can prove me wrong.

Have we even seen anything about it gameplay wise?

Silent Hill went down hill
Although enjoyed Downpour , there wasn´t enough l´amour.

I agree.

Thank goodness Tomm Hulett has left Konami.

Maybe the franchise can go somewhere now. IMO the best thing for Silent Hill is for Konami to stop shopping for random devs that aren't established in the genre, and approach a dev that can understand, and handle the franchise.
