Wii U Satisfaction Thread

Not too crazy about it. Got mine on launch day, finished Zombi U... the end.

Lacking games I care about, and I find the system so sluggish that I don't often feel like booting it.

Also horrible battery life of the gamepad controller has forced me to quit playing on multiple occassions during my Zombi U playthrough.

Hoping it gets better, looking forward to Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2.

People complain about the sluggish interface but I can boot the WiiU and get COD loading well before my xbox dashboard has loaded up. Also you do know that you can charge the gamepad whilst still playing?

Why are people selling their Wii U(for less than they bought it for) and saying they might get it again later. Why not just hang onto it then, unless you're making a profit. That'll show Nintendo, you hate their system so much, you bought two.

If I could sell my Basic + NSMBU for $300 locally I'd dump mine in a heartbeat. It's not that I dislike the system, it's just that looking at the release list I couldn't tell you when I would be buying another game for it.

I would buy a Wii U again down the line, probably way later in the generation once the few Nintendo titles I want are already released and the price has been cut significantly.

I'm lovin' the Wii U. The system, that is, not the lack of games. I've been playing Wii games I missed in the mean time. I 100% completed Metroid Prime 3 and I'm working my way through Xenoblade now. I occasionally pop in AC3. Nintend Land and NSMBU are a blast with friends.

I love the controller. It's by far my favorite controller ever. I'm pretty disappointed Sony didn't copy Nintendo with the PS4 :/.

I'm looking forward to when games will finally be released.

That I don't get. Being disappointed about the lack of games is one thing. Selling the system when you know the games will come is just a stupid thing to do. Unless you are getting a profit for it or really need the cash to pay bills. Those being so quick to sell otherwise I have to ask why they even bought the system in the first place. Why not try to return it to the store instead of selling to the store for a loss? Especially in situations where people are selling days or just a few weeks after purchase.

There's three solid games coming out next month. Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, Lego City: Undercover and Need for Speed: Most Wanted

True and that should help a little but they don't address the desire to have something really new and that pushes the system. Need for Speed is a late and overpriced port regardless of the effort put into it. I can not honestly bring myself to buy it full price. Monster Hunter is a game I have on the Wii but with better graphics and some new high end content. I've been going back and forth on this game because of that. I could last me a while but like the previous game it will come a point where I'm just going through the motions with it and I'll be playing just to play. Lego City Undercover is a game I'm looking forward to but I'm realistic about just how much it will entertain overall. It doesn't seem to be a complicated game at all and I do want something more then what it is going to offer. It's a small appetizer. One I welcome but not that is going to satisfy.

I love the system but I found some annoying bug (?)

When I'm on the download list page, and I choose "turn off when every download is over", the Wii U it randomly turns itself off, even if he downlaod is not finiched :(

I love my Wii U, if this thing did Wii games on the Gamepad it'd be a match made in heaven because I love the controller. However, it's full on hardware BC, so alas that isn't an option.
Past that, I'm just waiting for the gamez. VC games coming out is great, but right now it's primarily my Netflix box, which is a shame. However it does it's job admirably. :D

When the two system speed up updates come out, I'll think of it as the perfect machine, in terms of OS. I like the GAME CENTRIC LAYOUT instead of shoving 15 ads in my face or forcing me to have a single line of games.
That said, I miss some of the cool Wii system menu features, like the pre-game title screen (where it had that little movie, not just talking the screensaver pic), but hey, overall it's an improvement.

I have this issue too. And it's only started happening since updating the firmware. My first batch of downloads at launch worked no problem.

I think Nintendo should have included Wii games in the Gamepad functionality. That would have been huge for most people!!! I hope they are working on that. Or maybe they want to resell us major Wii games, I hope not.

Check the setting for idle time to turn the Wii U off.

From

http://www.**********.com/?mode=viewstory&id=190110

- turns off the system "if there has been no input for a set period of time"
- lack of input is still counted when a game is running and paused
- shutoff seems to happen after 60 minutes
- can be adjusted within the system options
- turn the feature off entirely
- adjust the range of 'idle time' the system needs to register

I got my tax money and I'm thinking of getting this now. I know there's stuff coming that will actually make me buy the system...but I can't think of any games I want to play on this system right right now.

This happened to me too, and it turned off because the Internet went down while downloading. Apparently, if the system loses its connection to the Internet, it will auto-turn off if you have the feature active.

Is Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 still coming out on the Wii U? I know Snipe Elite V2 is but that is coming out in May. S:GW2 is suppose to come out this March 12th according to Amazon.com. Ghost Warrior 2 is the Cry Engine 3 game that is going to be on the Wii U.

not anytime soon, they say they may develop it in the future

The complain about no games is certainly valid. But I bought enough games to keep me busy, hell I am even having trouble completing them, no time, wish I could just stop time.

Black Ops 2 if you are into shooters is as solid as it can get on the Wii U IMO.

NSMBU is very challenging, I think I am bad though. Have not started Trine 2 and slightly played Sonic Racing. ZombiU is great but I am afraid of getting a game breaking bug.

Really regreting getting NBA2k13 for PS3. In hopes to buy NBA2K14 on the Wii U, anyone played the 2k13 version to give me some impressions?

I know Fifa was like a Fifa 12.5, I hope Fifa 14 is on par on the Wii U.

Just with Fifa 14, NBA2k14 and Black Ops 2 I could spend a while playing and not even completing everything.

I am in need of some Friends though, the only other person I know who has a Wii U hasn't bothered registering on Nintendo Network....

My ID is

ZombiU and Monster Hunter is all I can recommend. I'm trying to find something to play on it too, there's just nothing really.

For those who say they can't see their family playing like they did with Wii... are you playing Nintendoland? It's pretty obvious that Mario Chase and many of the simpler games included are perfectly designed to teach people how to use a cross pad and buttons while having a great time with family and friends.

Nintendo may have botched marketing this aspect of the system and specifically Nintendoland, but it's definitely there. Just try it!

Indeed.

No learning curb at all with the Wii with Wii Sports.
"Swing it like you're playing tennis"

Not interested in either of those. Sucks. Its not the money really...but I'm not buying it so it can literally sit around.

It teaches people how to operate a gaming controller with just the stick at first (Mario Chase) and then with buttons (Luigi's Ghost Mansion) using real-world equivalent games people can understand (hide n' seek) whilst also introducing these people to the Nintendo franchises that have formed the core of Nintendo's output.

It's so clever but the clever parts are not aimed at the classical "hardcore" gamer.

I'm satisfied with my Wii U, but like many others, the thing that I hate the most about the console is the slow OS.

In these days, we are used to so many devices with very fast OS, like smartphones, tablets, TV's. And it is not because of the specs... it is just Nintendo's lazyness or cheapness. Everything feels disconnected on the Wii U. I don't know why every part of it is like a different part of the system, like a stand-alone app and not integrated in the main system.

They just need to admit defeat and hire a third party company to redo the whole OS.

I prefer to think that the insides of the OS are like the Wii > Wii U system transfer and there's an army of Pikmin that have to get from Friends List over to Nintendo eShop and they're going as fast as they can.

Well... then Nintendo needs to upload them some sort of a fast vehicle for the Pikmins. Anything.

I just hate to wait 30 seconds just to see the new notifications (usually a NSMB U YouTube video).

By the way, I tested Wii U vs an iPad from a cold boot and the Wii U in fact boots up faster and lets you get into explorer quicker than the iPad. Unfortunately, Wii U doesn't have a standby mode.

Right! But that is how you create great software for everyone IMO. A Mario wrapper is perfect for teaching people how to use a crosspad and buttons.. which then evolves into things like dual sticks (the brilliance of controlling individual dogs in AC:Sweet Day cannot be overstated), stylus drawing (Yoshi's Fruit Cart) and even pointing demonstration with Takamaru!

Eventually, that all builds up to Metroid, which is about as hardcore as controls get on any modern console IMO.

I really ought to publish something on all this somewhere. Maybe it would open some eyes to how brilliant Nintendo can be in game design for the masses.

I struggle to comprehend how a company with their resources, in a world dominated by tablets and smartphones, failed to get this basic thing right. The Wii U OS should be running like butter. There should be zero loading times while navigating the OS. If after the forthcoming updates, you still see the loading circle, even for just a short time, then they still haven't gotten it right.

More of a concern though for me is the serious lack of optimism surrounding the console. Developers aren't interested, the media are pretty tepid about it, message boards are filled with negativity, sales are abysmal and Nintendo are in the awful position of having to go through the growing pains of HD transition 6 years after everybody else while also having to almost single handedly grow the content library.

I'm satisfied with the system, to a point, but my optimism for its future is shakey at best. This time next year will paint a clearer picture of Nintendo's actual position, but I can't say I'm expecting them to have a major revival based on what has already been disclosed.

There are still a lot of opportunities for Nintendo to make the Wii U a succes. In a year it's probably cheaper, with a big games library, a broad VC and eShop and a smooth OS. And hopefully with a few surprise killer apps for the mass market.

Looking back, the Gamecube had pretty good hype-mentum all the way up until Metroid Prime was released (and the Capcom 5 announcement). But after that it kinda died down with not much in the way of exciting new content... not until RE4, that is. I'm hoping Nintendo's slow start with Wii U will be made up with a much more interesting release schedule starting over the 2013-14 season.

I don't mind the initial loading when opening up an app(although I'd prefer it to be much shorter), it's that along with the just as slow loading to go back to the Wii U Menu. It shouldn't take 10 seconds to close the Notifications or Game Log.

The drought of Wii games between Mario Galaxy 1 and Mario Galaxy 2 (I seriously don't think I bought any Wii games between those two titles) has me more than prepared for the Wii U drought.

In the meantime I got my PC, and the knowledge that new Zelda/DK/Metroid/Mario are coming is enough.

I'm havin' fun with my Wii U. Some interesting games are coming too like Need for Speed and Lego City Undercover. I'm also interested in gettin Watch Dogs and Mario Kart later in the year.

I'm just hoping Nintendo finds someway to get a Naruto fighting game and Grand Theft Auto V on Wii U. I'd love to play those titles.

I am loving the Wii U, love the Miiverse and Gamepad in general. It really adds to the immersion little things like Alfred speaking through the Gamepad in Arkham City and hacking with the touch screen etc.

One thing I do have a complaint about is the OS, yeah not only is it slow as hell it is fugly. Im a Graphic Designer and it pains me to see how ugly it us. I hope when they release one of the two planned OS updates this year one of them is a makeover.

I like my Wii u, mostly for the promise of future AAA 1st party games but man the battery life of the controller is terrible.

I turned on my fully charged Wii U pad and began to (slowly) download the Mon Hun demo, while that was going, I turned on my fully charged Vita and played Persona for a few hours, I looked over at the Wii U and noticed that the pad had run out of power, meanwhile the Vita was down to half.

My pad discharges even when I it's off! I'll not play the Wii U for 3 days or so and discover that the pad is completely flat!

I just treat my Wii U pad as a wired controller now. I just leave it constantly plugged in which is really inconvenient.

Nintendo really skimped on the battery on that thing, I feel it should offer 6 hours minimum.

I actually made a thread about this exact issue yesterday, apparently this is normal according to customer support. I was shocked but then I realized I'll just keep it on the dock forever.

Yeah, this happens with me too. I think someone emailed Nintendo and they said this is normal so nothing is wrong with the controller. Still shitty though.

did you get a basic set with no dock? I always just leave it in the dock when not using it.I have had mine since launch, and I only ran out of battery once while playing ZombiU. I think lately I have kept the brightness on 3 or so, and haven't had an issue in months. Not even close to running out of battery. Though I haven had exceptionally long game sessions either.
