Metal Gear Rising spoiler thread: God Bless America!

So when Raiden crushed Armstrongs heart, I'm assuming he absorbed it like he did with every other enemy? Or was it not the right type?

If he did absorb it does he have Armstrongs nanomachines in him now?

it didn't look like he absorbed any new abilities. would've been nice if we got his armor powers.

A Metal-Gear-fan friend of mine hated Armstrong, saying he was a "terrible" character that didn't match "Kojima standards". I really wanted to smack him over the head.

Show him a picture of Fatman from MGS2 and tell him to repeat himself while staring at it.

Raiden doesn't absorb powers, just the electrolytes. Armstrong isn't a cyborg, so he wasn't "getting" anything out of squashing the heart... he just did it because it was an apt way of finishing a game where you've been pulling out organs and crushing them in your hands the entire time.

I know you really want this to be a Megaman game, but it really isn't! Lol.

OK everyone, hold hands and picture this with me:

In Rising 2, it turns out EVERYONE in Congress is a nanomachine-enhanced superman.

And you fight them all at once.

On the rim of an erupting volcano.

On Mars.

Not quite. A codec conversation with Doktor during one of Armstrong's phases reveals that they both figure out that he's probably controlling the flow of nanomachines with his heart, or something to that effect. It made me understand why he picks such a brutal way to finish him off!

...But yes, one could argue you do it to look cool otherwise.

I was really letdown by the end. The soccer kick was random and dumb as hell; and thats when the Kojima-o-bullshit meter exploded; he would just endless talk and talk and talk and talk; to be honest theres a lot of missed potential.

The ending cutscene was a massive, MASSIVE nonsensical mess; oh boy. It was almost reaching MGS4 levels of lameness

One of the best action games of this generation but the end takes away a few points from it.

Revengeance IS the 25th Anniversary of Megaman celebration.

You should probably watch those cut scenes again for good measure.

... Your hands are really sweaty.

It was great how Platinum's answer for the last boss in Rising was NANOMACHINES! I love those laughs pointed at the series and its crazy amounts of exposition.

However, I'm sure that if we're going to see Rising 2, Platinum already has something up their sleeve that we can't even imagine.

Fair enough if you went into it expecting usual levels of normal Kojima bullshit, but I think you were missing half the point of the final (and dare I say the game in general).
"MGS4 levels of lameness"... Now I'm not sure what you were expecting at all.

My favorite part is the sword fight with the 2000 ft long robot sword.

I loved that despite all his great strength, Raiden could only perform multiple horizontal or multiple vertical slices with that weapon, but not mix them. It shows that even he has limits.

I like how before the Sam fight in R-06, Sam says it's all about ideals, and you expect a 10-minute speech, but then he simply says, "We've heard enough speeches about higher causes by now," and basically gets down to business. That tasteful restraint was mindblowing given this game has "Metal Gear" in the name.

Other moments that seemed self-aware of the franchise's verbosity includes Raiden saying "Here I am, arguing philosophy with terrorists" before the Monsoon fight, and of course "NANOMACHINES, SON" as a quick throwaway explanation of Armstrong, rather than, say, a dissertation by Drebin. (Fuck that noise)

No way, Ray can fit inside a tanker ship and even then it can be stored in a couple huge rooms/areas. Excelsus is close to the size of a tanker.

I meant if RAY were standing completely upright, not in the "action stance."

And if the original RAY wasn't taller, the RAY you fight in this one would be.

I'm playing the JP version, so got the general gist but didn't know this was the translation. That's absolutely classic!

I also love how generally self-aware it is, giving plenty of Metal Gear nods and self-indulgence without needing to fully nose-dive into philosophical/societal debate. We already have games for that, and it's in no-way necessary in an action game like Rising.

I think they (both KojiPro and PG) handled that aspect of it perfectly, and find it a shame when people criticise the game on this front, as if they were expecting a masterpiece that would change their outlook on life.

Gotta give 8-4 their props too
I will eventually double-dip on a digital English copy once it's cheaper, just so I can sample their work. I was under the impression PG did all their localisation in-house, but really happy 8-4 can get a piece of the love this time.

Realized Raiden not only killed an Ex US President but also a US Sentor. Wonder if Kojima wants to tell us something. Anyways I am calling homeland security.

Rising has a LOT more to say, and says it a lot better, than MGS4 ever did. Especially if you dive into the codec calls, where Rising tackles a lot of tough subjects at length.

Rising is the smarter game. The fact it's also this lithe, brawny action title is just awesome.

great, now I want a 3d megaman X game made by platinum, X can play like Vanquish while Zero can play like rising...

Okay, seriously. This idea is too good to actually exist. We all know Capcom would screw that up somehow.

I think it's kind of funny that a crazy over the top Platinum games action title does a better job at social/political commentary than MGS4 and DmC and a bunch of other recent games. At the absolute least, Rising made its commentary entertaining.

From little details to why PMCs still use the gekko model to the debate over Unmanned gears vs Cyborgs. I'm not surprised that a Metal Gear game has such detail in it's codec's, but I am impressed by the content that gives a clearer picture of the world post MGS4.

Bonus codec calls like the group acknowledging Wolf's behavior as an AI(and then the conversation of it being even possible to repair him) just makes more sense later on when you see him side by side than it just happening.

I gotta say, this is the first Metal Gear game in a looong time that doesn't feature any retcons that actively annoy me. At least not off the top of my head.

That's quite a feat!

Monsoon/Mistral were way better than Sundowner and Sam.

Sam was a huge letdown. You feel like such a noob in the prologue as he toys with you, then in the real fight he poses less of a challenge then the normal enemies. I didn't like the Armstrong fight. felt too anime. I might have to play it again and give it a second chance. Game was great though. The only other game I ever beat in one sitting was BioShock. Hope they do MGR2

In the way that changed him from a normal child to Jar Jar Binks

I just want to know who to hold accountable for that garbage

Well, from what I can tell, his dialogue seems pretty true to Guyanese Creole, which is pretty much what a street child from Guyana would speak. I have no idea if they got the accent/pronunciation right though (I suspect not).
