Seen a bunch of movies lately on a Redbox kick:
The Master - 2.5/5 - Intriguing at times. I didn't expect much in the way of a great story or anything, but was at least hoping to be wow'd by some great cinematography and acting. Acting was good, I'll admit. I think Hoffman felt more natural than Phoenix, honestly. But it still felt a little forced. The cinematography was above average, certainly, but there wasn't much that wow'd me apart from a couple scenes. Probably wouldn't watch this again.
End of Watch - 1/5 - Oh my god this was so bad. From the previews, it looked like it was going to be gritty and realistic and I was kinda excited about it. But whoever made this movie just dropped the ball on the potential it had. The two protagonists were like super-heroes where everything went perfectly the entire movie, so the ending was as predictable as me getting hungry sometime during the day. The story was a garbage, cliche, bromance, but worst of all, and I mean WORST of all - were the 'villains' of the movie. Its like they came out of a 1950's comic book or something. So cheesy, so ridiculous, so cringe-worthy bad. This movie is like a choice piece of ribeye that somebody cooked til well-done and then poured ketchup on it. You couldn't pay me to watch this again, except maybe to laugh at it.
The Awakening - 3/5 - Decent 'ghost story' movie. Better than average. Decent acting, interesting story and twists. Wasn't necessarily scary, but the movie relied more on its tension, which is fine with me. I didn't feel like it was a waste of my time, like most scary movies. Atmosphere of everything was superb. Would watch again.
House at the End of the Street - 3/5 - Another respectable scary movie. J.Law was pretty damn good in it, I thought. Some surprising twists and some very tense scenes made this pretty enjoyable. Would watch again.
Judge Dredd - 4/5 - Most surprising movie I've seen in a while. I'm not normally an 'action movie guy', but this was some good entertainment. Story and premise was a bit silly, but some decent actors/acting and some great special effects and cool scenes made this fun the whole way through. Would definitely watch again.
Silent Hill Revelations - 1/5 - Pretty bad. First movie was decent, but this just dropped the ball on everything. Story was stupid, acting was bad, and the thing I was excited for most - Silent Hill's eeryiness - wasn't there. There was little build-up and only in a few brief scenes did it really capture that Silent Hill atmosphere properly. Definitely not gonna watch again.
Taken 2 - 2/5 - Really disappointing. A few cool scenes but the magic of seeing this seemingly normal guy turn into a super badass was gone. Definitely felt like a total cash-in. Probably wouldn't watch again.
Here Comes the Boom - 2.5/5 - It was corny, but it really wasn't that bad. I laughed a fair amount, which is what it was supposed to do, so I cant complain. Would probably watch again sometime way down the line.
The Possession - 1/5 - Entirely forgettable. I almost forgot to list it. Just a bad, generic exorcism movie. Definitely not ever gonna watch again.
The Bourne Legacy - 3.5/5 - I thought it was pretty decent. Good action scenes, smart story, tense. Didn't feel like a cash-in to me, which is what I was expecting. Definitely rewatchable.
Safety Not Guaranteed - 3/5 - Charming little movie. Cool premise(based on real-life newspaper ad) that was pulled off pretty well. Nothing entirely fantastic about it, but its enjoyable enough. Would watch again.
Seeking Justice - 2.5/5 - Not terrible. Nothing particularly noteworthy either. Pretty standard thriller material. Sadly, one of Nic Cage's better movies he's done in a while, too. Might watch again if nothing else was on.
