Sim City is now down, the maintenance message is amazing

But because they're out of keys or because of the complaints?

Considering the note they have on the page that the game doesn't work, I'd guess they got sick of people returning it. If they put it back up before the issues are fixed, I guess we will know the answer

Is this the reason why city sizes are so small to begin with? EA foresaw the server issues and decided to make the city borders smaller so servers would be less burdened.

I'd be surprised if it was any other reason.

If the cities get any smaller than they already are, this game would basically just be The Sims.

i just love how they made this game online only... what a piece of shit.

if they had just simply put in a damn single player mode, we wouldn't have to worry about the servers being hammered because not everyone wanted to play online and when they had server issues, we could just play offline and build our personal regions while we wait..

as many said before, there literally is no justification for this game being online only other than the money hats at EA wanting to nickel and dime us consumers constantly.

EA/Maxis really have no excuse. They knew pre-order numbers, they knew how much major retailers ordered. Server loads/capacity shouldn't have been this underestimated.

No sympathy from me. They had 2 servers up on launch day for North America.... 2. And now they are disabling features so their servers stop melting down. Complete joke.

I don't feel bad for the devs either. Flat out lying in interviews and mocking Blizzard over D3. Well, jokes on you guys.

Woah, just noticed this is a $60 PC game. WTF? First one I've seen.
Think StarCraft 2 did it also. But Blizzard tends to get a pass on such matters.
Do you think there's any possibility that EA asked them to stop selling it until issues are fixed?
1) Less complaints
2) Less people on the servers
No way, that is bad business. Amazon did this because so many people are asking for refunds, no doubt about that. They're protecting themselves from an administrative nightmare.

The bad thing about that kind of bad publicity is, that now everybody is buying the game just to experience by themselves how bad it is.

Game is still #1 game on Amazon.com

EA crappiness aside, Simcity is a good game and Maxis shouldn't be punished or called out for doing what EA likely demanded them to do. There's definitely things I'd like changed in the game (bigger cities, like everyone else) but they do not deserve this.

The big name games have been $60 for a while now.

Only activision and blizzard do this (and they can because of the target audience)

Ubisoft tried a year ago but that didn't go very well.

PC games still cost 40 euros on average here (and euro = dollar in the gaming world sadly :\ )
Steam tends to be way overpriced though with many games at 45-49 euros, you can always find them on gmg etc for 40.

I haven't paid over 40 euros for a game in years during launch week, usually way less.

Well, it was surely their vision for the game also. I mean with interconnected online cities and all. So I do not put them entirely out of the line of fire. However, I would account for their good intentions.

But that is what you get when you are dancing with the devil in the first place.

Crappy excuse. Just don't purchase/pirate the game. You'll be fine if you go without.

Wow, they removed a core feature like speeding up the game? WTF? Just to improve some chance of people being able to play? I mean, by the time they get to play they won't even want to when such a feature is gone. You'll literally sit there for an hour and make less progress without the speed-up.

Christ EA, good fucking job at ruining another franchise.

My girlfriend really really really wants this game, but I don't want to buy it for yet until the server issues are resolved.

The last thing I want to do is give her a lemon.

Is the iusse any better?

You've been here long enough that you should know better. Then again, we have GAFfers who should have known better than to buy an always-online game from EA.
