Eidos forum admin says Tomb Raider sells 1 million copies in less than 48 hours

Most games don't ever get to 1M so it's a feat, especially when those are sold at full price.

Not sure what the expectations for the title are though.

I imagine thats shipment, I doubt they have any retail feedback after only two days. But it seems pretty good to me. Underworld did 1.5M in its first two months.

Its not like the franchise is at a high point as of before this reboot either.

All platforms? That sounds....ok to good. Don't really know what games outside of COD/Halo sell in the first 48.

Great game though.

Excellent news, would love to see this new Tomb Raider world continued, hopefully in the future with more, actual tomb raiding involved.

Great news! The game is going to be massive and deservedly so.

How anyone thought this was going to bomb is still beyond me.....
That's relative to expectations, as always.

But this is meaningless since it's likely a shipment figure. We don't even know if they'll manage to get through that shipment, or if initial sell through is good, or if there will be further shipment since it has legs. Six months down the line, this game may have only have a shipment level of 1.5 million. This will look even more laughable then.

Including digital downloads?

Was it not Deus Ex: HR only? Did Sleeping Dog, Hitman not tanked horribly?

Sleeping Dogs did ok but not amazing. Hitman tanked so bad that SE still refuses to acknowledge its existence in sales reports and it was reduced to half price almost 2 weeks after it came out.

Now just imagine how many more sales a Wii U port would have given it.

55k?

Awesome. I'm not even halfway through the game (? Shantytown) and I'm really enjoying it. If CD can add more tombs/environment puzzles than it could be a game of the ages.

Of course the linear cinematic cover shooter sells. Its about as simple as it gets. Just move forward, get the headshots, do the qtes, next level.

Man, innovation is so dead in AAA games. I don't know how you people enjoy all these when they're all the same.

I really want to pick this up but am already getting too many games in a short time. Glad to hear it's doing well and it's good. I've been looking forward to it since it was announced.

if you were actually talking about tomb raider, this would be a salient and pithy point

I finished it earlier today, and I liked it a fair bit, so this pleases me.
I'm glad I played it. I was going to skip it because of everything I'd seen from it. The marketing certainly didn't do it any favors, that's for sure.

Good news.
Tomb Raider as i know it is dead either way, but this at least means SE will have enough money to keep making games i like, like, say, Sleeping Dogs.

I'll wait to play the game to make a full assessment but from what I've seen, this.
