EDGE 252 - Reviews + stuff [LEGO City, Luigi's Mansion etc]

Can't wait to see what score other review sites will give lego.

That 7/10 MGR:R score seems to be somewhat low though, that's an EDG
Y
score for sure.

It sounds like LEGO is not perhaps as open as was thought? It seems it's about as open world as LEGO Batman 2. There are very few buildings to get in to from the world and most missions take place in separate levels. Sounds like this was one of EDGE's complaints. It's basically a GTA-lite-lite.

Apparently there are long loads during the open world and getting in to missions and the vehicles control pretty bad.

EDGE also said it lacks identity compared to previous LEGO games.

Lol at that Lego city score.
But I guess EDGE reviews about lego games are always harsh, judging from the comments.
I wonder how it compare to Simpsons hit & run.

So, best Wii U game?

Did you read the review? Really curious what it says in detail.

Unfortunately, the bit about the loading times are exactly what EatChildren posted in his impressions :/

Good that LM2 is rated high in edgy EDGE. Hope Lego scores better elsewhere :/ 30 sec load times tho, what was TT thinking and what was Nintendo thinking?

Chinatown Wars, Phantom Hourglass, Bowser's Inside Story, DQIX, Bangai-O Spirits and that's it for DS I guess.

They wrote it is an amazing game but its length seemed to bother them too much.
Advance Wars, Beat Sneak Bandit, Draw Race 2, Frozen Synapse, Groove Coaster, Mario Kart 7, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Meanwhile, Persona 4 Golden, Plants vs. Zombies, Spy Mouse, Super Hexagon, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, Velocity, Year Walk, Zigurat

*massive era for the GameBoy era missing as I don't have issues or the database*

e. ULTIMATE GHOSTS 'N' GOBLINS, THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: A LINK TO THE PAST, MARIO KART ADVANCE,

Nice to see Luigi's Mansion did well, cannot wait to play that game. Kind of disapointed by LEGO City: Undercover, but I'l take it with a grain of salt, because Edge can be a bit harsh with the reviews sometimes. Never heard of Year Walk and Anodyne and since they have high ratings, they sparked some interest.

gameinformer also gave resident evil 6 a 8.75

And there are many people who find Resie 6 a great game :P

Bit surprised by the Lego Undercover score but it's hard to think too much without the actual review. Eurogamer preview was really positive/hopeful so I'm still looking forward to it.

I've only played the first Lego Batman game, but the mechanics didn't feel satisfying at all. It felt like there was a sense of disconnect as well as a lack of weight to everything. For example, fighting bad guys felt like you were hiting paper, and the physics of the vehicles felt fairly loose. Also, the platforming felt light kind of like in Epic Mickey. The only thing that was kind of fun was collecting as many of those scattered lego pieces, but even then, they didn't have any sound effects to them, so even that was lacking a sense of satisfaction.

If Lego City controls and feels like Lego Batman, and what I assume how the other Lego games play like, then I can imagine Lego City not being quite as fun as it looks. That Game Weasel video review mentioned long loading times (up to 30 seconds), loose vehicle controls, lack of meaty side missions, unable to enter most buildings, slow player running speed, and some minor bugs.

Lego City Undercover saving the WiiU and pushing sales..........

Guess well see if its edge typical harsh reviews or if it'll be the norm.

Nice to see Luigi mansion reviewed well though.

If Crysis 3 is a 6. Then 5 isn't bad for a Lego game.

I'm not surprised by Lego City Undercover, if it is indeed not particularly good, I've been loving the concept and hoping it would be great, but it always seemed like a game that had a strong chance of disappointing.

A 7 for Rising is a travesty of the highest order. :P

Guys, dont write off Lego City yet, it got the same score as Mirror's Edge, might not be that bad.

Good to see Year Walk get a 9

30 second load times would have me writing off any game, it's 2013 ffs.

And this was considered as the WiiU savior? Looks more like a money savior for a lot of people who will skip this because of low scores

Rising score seems fair. A lot of things about the game, the art direction, environments, story, length, etc. didn't sit well with me at all. I loved the combat system but that's all the game had going for it. I get that's enough for some people because combat is the emphasis of the game, but I can't imagine how much better the game could have been with more interesting environments, well-executed platforming, a more interesting story, and better music beyond a handful of memorable boss tracks. It just felt lacking in a lot of ways to me, but the combat system and some of the bosses warrant the 7 at least.

Yep, Lego City Undercover will save the Wii U.

It was never going to and surely no one expected it to. A LEGO game isn't going to be the Wii U's trump card.

I feel a return of the ps3 chalkboard coming.

That's what you get out of Platinum games though. All of them.

I would like to know what EDGE wrote for the LCU review. I don't see how it would have the same review score as ACM from what was shown in previews and videos.

EDIT: Why no review for Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate?

I loved Bayonetta though, it was way more interesting to look at (and I'm not even talking about ass and titties), the soundtrack was absolutely amazing, and it felt like it had a lot more content and meat to it than Rising.

Lego City always looked like a barren sandbox with nothing in it from everything I've seen. Not surprising. Time to break out the Wii U chalkboard.

That Euro gamer is head line was so fucking bad. All it does is give trolls something to latch on to when it eventually fails to "save" the wii U, as you can see from some of the comments in this thread.

Is it just to load up the open world at the start like in the GTA games or for every story mission?

Here's what EatChildren said about the load times when asked:

Whenever you enter buildings. So like, the game has to load the interior of the police station as it's a separate "level" compared to the open world sandbox (which seems pretty large). It seemed to be loading between missions too, but that could have been because the early missions almost all require you going to the police station.

Loading times were well over a good minute. They were pretty damn bad. But yeah, the rep did note this was a dev build and that the load times would hopefully be improved in the final game.

luigi mansion a 8 ok was hoping for 9 or higher

thats a bullshit lego city undercover review

So, you aren't happy with a game scoring 8/10 and are moaning about a review of a game you haven't played. You are ridiculous.

Gamefaqs is ---> that way.

My sub copy hasn't arrived today. No doubt will appear on Monday.

More doom and shit spewing from people because a magazine gave a fucking LEGO game a 5/10, while discrediting any other reviews. Meanwhile, two weeks ago, they had to put a warning to stop port begging on the news thread for it.

Anyways, pretty good scores, but A:CM at anything higher than a 3 is abysmal. Revengeance is an awesome game but for it's length, it deserves the 7.
