The Making of Dust: An Elysian Tail ( Noogy ) ( Saturday, Naga Theatre, 1 - 2 PM )

In 2008, Dean Dodrill decided to make a video game. He didn’t know a single thing about game development, how to program, or how to release it. In August, 2012, “Dust: An Elysian Tail” was released on Xbox Live Arcade by Microsoft Game Studios as the grand finale of their annual Summer of Arcade promotion. The four years between conception and release saw Dodrill nearly single-handedly crafting every aspect of the game, with a small team of devoted developers assisting in audio, voice work, and narrative. Join Dust: An Elysian Tail creator Dean Dodrill and writer Alex Kain in this candid and all-encompassing look at how the game grew from a three month side project into a four year odyssey that shows how with enough effort, anybody can craft the game of their dreams.
Panelists:

Dean Dodrill [President and Creative Director, Humble Hearts, LLC], Alex Kain [Writer, Humble Hearts, LLC]

EDIT 03.20:

ok, I have 1 extra pass for Sunday
PM me for details if serious. I had a friend cancel on me, but I plan to go solo.

$45 including shipping I'm not trying to gouge anyone, I just to cover what i paid plus shipping and a small Paypal fee.

Ebay listings are getting over $60 per day.

let me know by tomorrow 3/21 early afternoon as it would be the last time I could get it to you on time.

So: Some quick FYI's

MC Frontalot, the Protomen, Br1ght Pr1mate and The World Is Square are playing on Sunday night at the middle east for 15 bucks. It's a nice alternative if you want to do stuff during the actual concerts at the show.

Restaurant week in Boston is the PAXEast weekend, so you may want to rife through their website and figure out if there's anything you wanna try since prices will be dramatically lower everywhere.

Street parking is free on Sunday, so you may want to think about loading up your cars Saturday night and trucking over to the residential areas about 2 blocks away. It's a short walk and can save you upwards of 50 bucks.

For those interested, I SHOULD have at least 1 extra pass for all 3 days and perhaps 2 for Friday and Sunday. I'm not sure about my work schedule, but i should know by the beginning of next week.

I dont know the GAF rules regarding this, but I'm not looking to make money on them, just get back what I paid. Send me a DM if you want to be kept posted as I don't want to hijack the thread.

If any of this is against the GAF rules, I understand if this post gets deleted.

After examining the schedule, the more I look at the panels, and the list of exhibitors, the more I realize that I'm not that excited for PAX East. The companies and gaming personalities I care about seem to prefer Prime. I'll probably go exploring Boston more than solely focusing on PAX.

Its a great city to do that in.....even coming from a New Yorker....I love Boston.

This is my fourth year going and I, too, am feeling like this year's a dud. Only a few panels excite me, the PAX forums seem really inactive this year, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of PAX activities spilling into the streets of Boston for afterhours.

Yeah Boston's awesome. I'm also excited a lot more about this year's panels than last year's. All I really got out of last year's was Giant Bomb's and Mega64's.

This year, more than any other, I think East is hurt by being before E3. It would have been nice for Sony to have a PS4 panel or something.

That said, there's a few panels that look good, and the CliffyB keynote has the potential to be interesting.

It's here! Should be a pretty cool show. If Rockstar is there (should be) expect GTA V hands on. I'm grabbing my Media badge Thursday, and snooping around the show floor.

Not going to lie, this is the first year I don't have anything catching my eye beforehand. It might still be a great show, but so far...

Also, if anyone here is involved in running a panel or PAX-related event just post here or PM me and I will throw up a section dedicated to GAFer events to help spread the word. I know Shidoshi is doing another panel this year and Markman is involved with the Madcatz party (which I could use a pass to still :D ).

Went two years ago it was a blast, going up on Friday and Saturday. I plan on spending alot of time in indie panels and the free gaming rooms. I'll try to hit up the Bombcast panel but I hate standing in line for 2-3 hours.

Also my 3DXL will be charged and ready to collect street passes.

Yeah, I'd go to the Bombcast panel if not for the line. I'm going to try and avoid lines as much as possible. Which means avoiding anything big on the show floor, but that is fine with me.

Get there an hour before the bombcast, and you will make it just fine.

thats the plan...been a few times for work and I never got a chance to fully experience Boston....

It's a fun time. The Aquarium is pretty slick, the Museum of Science is a ball...easily enough to take up a few days.

Also, what's all this about Saturday? Is it possible to plan separate gatherings in one thread? I'd value the opportunity to meet fellow GAFfers in the real face to face sense.

I don't think we decided meetup day/dates? so Hero was just going off of what happened last year.

We need to get that shit squared away

Easy enough. Since Saturday isn't an option...I'll vote for Friday night post-floor closing. There's a dandy of a tequila bar up the road (and across the street from my office) called Papagayo, if anyone is interested. It's a restaurant to boot, so < 21 is an option.

It should also be busy. It's one of the decent establishments nearby.

A little early, but for those interested in PAX East next year the dates have been listed on the convention center's website. It will be April 11-13.

http://www.massconvention.com/events.html

Scroll down to the event calendar and click on page 8. Although I was looking at the Westin Waterfront Hotel during that time and the current rates they have listed are insane (like $550 a night), so I guess I will have to wait until the group rate kicks in.

I always forget to get a badge for PAX, then end up finding one on craigslist. Might see if I can find a couple this year, we'll see.

It's certainly possible and feasible to have a PAX meet-up on more than one day for those who can't make it. Last year Saturday was the day most people preferred since not everyone is there for the whole weekend.

Get the mobile app & guide here: http://guidebook.com/g/paxeast2013 and let me know your feedback! I am one of the guys who builds it.

I always give you and Guidebook a plug in the OT. Great app and has saved me plenty of times. :)

Gotta love how it's always the convention center that spills the beans on the dates.

I'll be working a booth the entire time, so I won't make it to the GAF meetup. Hit up the Vlambeer booth in the Indie Mega Booth, though. They'll have Luftrausers and Ridiculous Fishing, and they're two of my favorite games I've played this year.
