Games you remember, names you don't

I havent been able to figure this out... It was an amiga game like the sims. There was only one guy in his house, i think he had a dog too. You could tell him to read the paper, answer the phone, make dinner, dance to music and such..I remember thinking it was so cool when I was a kid. And looking back it was kind of ahead of its time.

Little Computer People

This is bothering the hell out of me, especially since I can't remember the gameplay very much.

It's a PlayStation game. I feel like it possibly came in like a demo-pack or something? All I can remember is it was VERY plain and you're a character trying to, like run down stairs or something? It was kind of purple/blue or perhaps just gray. It was 3D. It was really creepy to me back then, too. Please god someone help me.

EDIT: Maybe rolling blocks were involved or something? I DON'T believe it was Intelligent Qube, but it was similar.

Kid Niki: Radical Ninja? It's the first thing that came to my mind:

http://www.arcade-museum.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8305

Yeah it wasn't Kid Niki although thanks for bringing that up since I totally forgot about that game. I had that on the NES.

I remember it was mostly projectile attacks instead of melee attacks. It must have been an obscure japanese arcade game since I never saw that game again in any other arcades, just this one local liquor store.

This one is going to be pretty hard because I don't remember too much.

It was an arcade game (I remember the cabinet just said "New Game" on it lol).

It was back in the late 80s (around 86-89) a side scrolling game where you played as a japanese looking ninja (I don't think there was a mask though, maybe a headband with japansese spiky hair). You could get different power ups like shooting out swirling fireballs, shoryukens? (don't remember), and other different powers. The character design was short and chubby. There is also some platforming (jumping) and it looked pretty colorful.

I thought it was ninja kid or ninja kid 2, but I don't think that's it. Any games similar to that?

It's defiinitely not games like Ninja Spirit or Ninja Kazan which have more realistic style art work. Also I'm positive you shoot out something as an attack as opposed to melee attacks.

I'm been trying to figure this out for the last 15 years on and off but could never find it. Figured I'd give GAF a try.
Ninja Combat?

Definitely not Ninja Combat. It was before the Neo Geo days. It was only one player and scrictly 2D. Think of something like ghost N goblins. Honestly, I don't even know if the character is even a ninja. I know I'm not helping here, but I really can't think of any more details which makes it frustrating.

your description of the weapons made me think of wardner or legend of hero tonma.
no ninjas there though

I remember playing an off-road racing game at the arcade. I believe it featured a Castrol Toyota Celica. Its camera view was similar to WRC PowerSlide's. Any ideas?

WOW. I think you've solved my 15 year mystery. It looks like Legend of Hero Tonma. My memory is very vague but this definitely resembles it with the open mountain level and wavy fireball attacks.

Do you know of any other game similar to this? (And I checked Wardner and it's defnitely not that one.) If not then this has to be it. Thanks!

When I was young we had this game demo on our first windows 95 home PC, it was like a starfox type clone sort of, but you would fly through an asteroid field and there would be blue rings to fly through which gave you powerups and a few other things. I don't remember many enemies being on screen but there was a lot of dodging asteroids I think.

Nope. It was primarily centered around blocks or stairs or something. I never got far into the game because I didn't understand it. It MAY have been a puzzle game. Intelligent Qube definitely reminds me of it.
I'm on my cell, but maybe it was " Klax "?
Edit* on second thought, maybe not.

Back in school i found a game the computers actually allowed me to play off the internet, it was some first person doom clone thing, supposed to be a bit of a horror. You started off in a big white mansion, i think you may have been a wizard or something. You could go outside too (i remember the big blue sky), other than that i cant remember what it was called :(

Any ideas ?

It doesn't have anything to do with a Wizard, but it does have White walls and blue sky...

Edit: Still not really a wizard or horror theme, but In Pursuit of Greed might fit as well

Realms of the Haunting?

Does anyone remember the name of an Amiga game where you were like on a tennis court and had to throw a ball at your opponent to beat them? It was a bit like dodgeball with wierd monsters and set in the future.

It was awsome but cant remember the name for the life of me...

- DOS game from around 1994/1995 (I played it around that time though it might be a few years older)
- Medieval adventure/RPG game
- Side view game
- You played some unnamed male character.
- All characters were only black silhouettes on screen, the backgrounds were colored though (I think)
- It was very static, you could only "jump" from screen to screen and there were always only your character and exactly one other NPC on screen (each NPC had its own screen)
- NPCs I remember: wizard, dragon, King (father of princess), princess
- You could talk to NPCs in some way (I think you could choose from sentences at the bottom of the screen).
- I think the game had something with "Amanda" in its title and I think this was also the name of the princess.
- The overall art style of the game reminded me of a storybook (though I could be wrong).
- I think the opening screen was a portrait with a big closeup of the princess' silhouette and the game title above it (I think it was "Amanda")
- Very little animations, you could not walk around in one screen nor did the NPCs walk around.
- You could collect various items which where queued up behind your character. Your character was always located on the left side of the screen, with space of about one third of the screen behind him for the "inventory". NPC were always on the right side of the screen.
- You could collect items such as a magic cloak from the wizard which gave you magic powers or a sword to fight the dragon.
- At one point you could lose all your clothes so you were "running" around naked and the NPC reacted appropriated to this. I remember when you got to the princess naked she would laugh at you or something.
- I can't remember the goal of the game but I think it was to win the princess' heart.
- You could fight a dragon in his cave (though I can't remember the fighting mechanics).

Anyone knows this game? I really, really want to play it again. I tried to google "Amanda" but it came up with nothing.

Self quote from last page, anybody could help please? So far I only know it's not Blade Warrior.

Any chance you could get any type of gameplay details from your girlfriend? Did you play as the UFOs? A running character? Third-person camera? Isometric? First-person? Action game? Strategy?

I tried to look this up for you when it first posted but I got nowhere because there simply wasn't a whole lot to work with. I had a game in mind that I barely remember, and while it could be it, my memory is extremely foggy on the title and I didn't pursue it because I wasn't convinced it was the right game. The game I'm thinking of started overhead over a jungle, from what I recall, so it didn't match the desert or tundra environments that your girlfriend recalls.

Edit: The game I had in mind COULD be Zone 66. Elements of it are familiar but that looks faster paced and I don't remember having as many abilities. But it had the same perspective, the craft looks familiar possibly, and it dealt with flying above stuff and killing ground targets and such. Pretty sure I just played some shareware version of the game in mind for like ten minutes back in the 90s.

I'm trying to remember if Incoming had a tundra level; if it does, it could be that yet again.

Unfortunately, what details I gave you guys is all she remembers :( I'll show her screenshots of those 2 games and see if she recognizes them. Thanks for the help though! :D

What are you thinking of, Fire Fight?

But yeah, Incoming and Zone 66 are good guesses, for the original question. And maybe Fire Fight.

If the game I barely remember isn't Zone 66 it looked very similar to it graphically. Looking at some screens of Fire Fight looks too graphically advanced. But I'm not really looking for the game in question because I remember it so poorly that I wouldn't be able to properly determine if a game is correct or not, or at least I imagine that'd be the case.

I should have clarified that but seeing that Vangers shared a very similar perspective to the game I'm thinking of I decided against mentioning it but yes, it's top-down with a hint of perspective.

It's definitely not Death Rally because the game wasn't about racing. I remember riding around in this buggy / bike contraption shooting at other vehicles.

Esthetically - and in terms of perspective and color palette - it's similar to Earth 2140, but that isn't it either!

Wow, that looks really good for 1997! Sadly, the game I'm thinking of is 2D, sprite-based.

I'm *so* tempted to say it's Fallout but I don't remember ever going on foot. All the screenshots I see of the first two Fallout games show someone walking around. :(

Oh, and Fallout doesn't seem to have much in the way of vehicles.

I don't know if it's been mentioned or the mystery has been solved, but...

Vangers: One for the Road?

Could well be the first Thief; there's a level with you stealing an artifact from a cathedral. In short, your cousin has fine taste.

Maybe one of the Thief games? I dunno :/

EDIT: Beaten by seconds.

I looked through my subscriptions folder and couldn't find the thread again. But, I remember seeing a indie game mentioned in what I think was an 'awesome indie/unknown indie' thread. It was a stylized 2d game that was described as 'metal gear solid' style stealth in ancient Persia/Middle east.

Would really appreciate if any of you GAFFER's had a better memory/knowledge of the game.

Oh, guys! I really need your help!
When I was a child I saw this strange 2D beat 'em up on a pc in which the main character was travelling in time in different ages...I've never been able to say what game that was.

Roughly when was this? And was it one on one Street Fighter style, or scrolling Streets of Rage style?

Realms of the Haunting?

Thanks guys but sadly none of these are it :( The reason my memory has been jogged on this game is because I saw on GOG.com a new release for Catacombs series, which looks a lot like the game im thinking of (but isn't). I seem to remember the game playing in a window also and not full screen. It most definitely started off in a mansion.

Can someone please help me with this? About 20 years ago, I played a SNES side-scrolling adventure game - here's what I remember:

  • I played a man (like a barbarian - judging from the clothing) with a sword and shield. I think there was an energy bar and when it was full and I attacked, a fireball was unleashed and the man said something like "FAWN!"
  • The first level had a boss at the end that had a lion head, and it breathed fire that traveled on the ground towards me.
  • In some levels or something, I remember having a partner with me and I think it was either AI-controlled or just followed my actions.
  • Sometimes, either my partner or myself had a ring of energy balls circling around me.

That's all I remember, and the music of the first level, but I can only hum it :(

Sounds like Magic Sword from Capcom.

Did you look up all 4 Catacomb 3D games?

Catacomb Abyss

Knowing that it was Windows and not DOS will help a bit. I will keep looking.
