The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Much much worse than I remember. I rewatched the first last week and it holds up amazingly well - the effects aren't that great but it stills instils a sense of wonder into me whenever I watch it.
To be honest I can't think of a single redeeming quality of the sequel. The characters are uniformly terrible - I could have happily watched each and every one of them die - that sense of wonder is completely gone and every encounter is beyond ridiculous (which is a weird thing to stand out in a film about bringing dinosaurs back to life).
Ugh, I fucking hated it and I feel bad for watching it a second time.
Going to buy Lawrence of Arabia now as a means of redemption.
He is the least irritating character granted, but he gets far too much screen time (which I guess is a relief in itself) and his character is so off beat that even that gets too much for me.I can think of some redeeming qualities.
1- The scene where the ATV goes under the dinosaur.
2- The scene in the beginning.
3- Jeff Goldblum.
Catch me if you can

Yep. But Catch Me If You Can is absolutely fantastic. That would be Munich, imo.

Finally saw The Tree of Life. Great movie that demands a rewatch.
85/100. Would've given it a 90 on Criticker but I don't do that for first viewings with the way I approach my scale/scoring system.
I say fuck that. If a movie is a 10 in my eyes it's a 10, doesn't matter if it's my first viewing. I saw City Lights for the first time and it blew my mind, yes it's a 10.
To each his own though![]()

Well, I learned a pretty serious lesson after I rewatched Looper. That was the first time I realized how easily clouded I am by the honeymoon effect.
There are some films that I feel fine rating extravagantly after one viewing, but they're very rare. Recently, I've only done that with The Turin Horse and The Seventh Seal. I can always go back and change them so I guess I should just give it that 90 on the first watch but I like to learn more about the film after I see it and that often changes my perspective for better or worse.
But yes, to each their very own!
I wouldn't consider my first ratings to be sound, I rated Scorpion King a 10 a decade ago when it came out in 2002. This was when I was huge into The Rock and the two Mummy movies that blinded me to how bad the movie was with time and the awful CGI.
Movies that give me a special feeling of "wow I cannot believe I'm alive to experience this" always get a instant perfect 10.
You've seen Pride and Prejudice, Anna Karenina? Yeah, I would avoid The Soloist. Wright's big misstep. Hannah is great and the movie that - combined with the rest of his filmography convinced me he would make an amazing Bond film. Of course I now think he probably shouldn't waste his time on Bond.Just rewatched Atonement. As an adaptation, it doesn't work quite as well as the novel (which I'm not even a particularly big fan of), but goddamn, it is a beautiful film with some great performances. Wonderful score too; how Dario Marianelli is not one of the most highly sought after composers in Hollywood is beyond me. And dat Dunkirk shot was even more incredible than I remember, in large part due to that music.
Need to see Hanna and maybe the Soloist too, even though I hear it's pretty terrible.

Can you explain The Ice Storm to me? I mean, I liked it and all (although weird seeing Frodo and Spiderman so young,) but it felt like it was building up to something great, but then theThe Ice Storm is decent
Don't forget that Hanna was PG13. Wright can push it pretty far.I considered Wright as a Bond director after I saw Hanna as well. He's got a good eye for directing action and keeping it in the frame in a coherent manner.
In general, I think there's too much of a studio overheard in the Bond franchise for any of its films to ever really stand out as great standalone films. Even the best Bond films leave a little to be desired, but they have conventions and PG-13 ratings to stick to, so we'll never get a Bond that's fully adult and made in a liberated creative environment.
As for the scene in the beginning, did you mean the scene on the beach with the english couple and their legion of servants?
Yeah. I expect a lot of people to come around on The Master in a few years time.
I finally watch Hugo yesterday! I had the 1080p version downloaded for a while but I was putting of watching it, thinking that it looked crap. I was very wrong.
I loved it! The cinematography, soundtrack, story, acting, almost everything about it was awesome. There were a few errors in the film but over all awesome.
I even ended up downloading the OST after.
You had the '1080p version downloaded' and then decided to download the soundtrack?Haha, what?

You should probably edit your Hugo post. If a mod sees it, you'll be banned, permanently.
unless it's porn. porn is cool.
I didn't realise they specify between 1080p versions that you're not sure whether they look like shit on iTunes. How do you guys know I didn't download it from iTunes? Wow, I love the way everyone assumed I pirated it.![]()

We don't, but your post comes across as if you pirated it, and that'll get you banned.
I also think it's a little unfair that I'm guilty until proven innocent.
Sea rats get the plank!I also think it's a little unfair that I'm guilty until proven innocent.

But seriously, I'm pretty sure iTunes don't offer different quality versions of films up ala 480/720/1080p. So you kinda made your own bed you pirate scum!
This completely blindsided me when I watched it the other week, amazing film.I finally watch Hugo yesterday!
