VGLeaks: First look as Durango XDK (always connected, kinect required, must install)

I really don't understand why some people are going "mandatory installs to HDD? Fuck that, I'm out! No more XBOX for me!!!!!"

How in hell is that a negative? I just don't see it. :-/

I always install the games I'm playing the most on my 360 and would love to do it on my other systems as well if I had the option. The only negative right now is that I still need to insert the DVD to play of the HDD.
If I didn't have to do that anymore, I'd be even happier.

And yeah, I'm reading "always on" as in WiiConect24 right now, unless MS comes out and explains it's an always on DRM system, which is a very good possibility.
Still. Not jumping to conclusions like a lot of others here.
Heck I don't even know if I'd want the new system as we haven't seen a single game yet. :-/

I can't wait to see people's reaction to the hardware reveal. Crow shall be ate by all races and genders.

I think people are getting fed up of "I know what you don't" stuff in all honesty but you're right, I can't wait either, simply because it will be official and not whispers and hints.

In short, anyone saw X360 integration into VS2012 will feel at home.

Where is it rumored PS4 will need activation codes for used games?

Not my reply.

Probably what they are already doing now with the PS3, like online passes... Just universal.

It almost seems like MS is doing this on purpose to set the bar low, knowing that info would get leaked.

I think you guys are misinterpreting what always on is. They mean if your system is connected then it can update for you. I don't think it means always on for the games to work.

You were responding to this which was talking about Durango:

edge also said in a followup article the next day that it could also be a activation code for used games. Like what we have now and what is rumored PS4 will have.

In a Durango thread where people are discussing Durango blocking used games. I was making an observation based on your comment.

It limits user options. No further explanation needed.

You get to play the game within seconds of the installation process. Afterwards you can resume and suspend multiple games from your HDD.

Sony needs to be really worried if they don't offer the same capability. If on PS4 you have to switch game discs and you don't on Durango, it's a big advantage for MS in terms of user experience.

The user was, I wasn't. I was answering the question in relation to the PS4.

Yoshida already confirmed no block for used games on PS4.

That won't work because the original person still has access to the game on their hard drive. What's stopping me from getting 5 friends buying the game once and them the other four only having to buy a $10 activation code? That makes no sense.

It would solidly put MS into the used game business.

No no no no no... You don't understand. Its Microsoft so it has to be AWFUL. There is no other explanation.

Hmmm... so this is supposedly like a windows pc?
Where you have to install every softwares/games to the Harddrive, even you have them on the disks?

The interesting part is you can start playing the game; while the data are being installed. Cool concept.

I really want something like that on PS4 after thinking about it. At least let me do optional installs like on the 360.

I also don't understand why people don't think you'll be able to delete and reinstall freely.

Essentially, Sony has said that you will be able to play used games. As for the how, it seems like it's less certain since Sony isn't detailing that. Based on the way Sony has responded to inquiries about it, more than likely it's not going to be a simple matter of selling your disc and it will just work for that person who bought the used disc. There will likely have to be some form of activation code, or deactivating the license on your account so it can be used again.

And actually, as I'm thinking about that, I'm wondering if the PS4 will allow you to loan games to your friends? It sounds like when you want to sell your PS4 game, you will have to deactivate the license associated with the disc from your account, so it can be used again (places like Gamestop would probably be able to do that for you). But what if you didn't want to sell your game, but just wanted to loan it to a friend? That means the license is still on your account, and the disc won't work on another persons console. Does anyone know if Sony has confirmed being able to loan PS4 games to friends?

Ya and since things like Onlive and so forth already do that, though you aren't installing it but a buffer. No issue for a console to do it.

I actually don't care that much about the potential "No used games" side; but always online is definitely unappealing. Also, more Kinect, bleh - it's interesting in general, but sucks for traditional games, and the best use of it is probably as a microphone.

I'm curious how big the HDD's are going to be in Durango then.

"Always on, always connected."

The ironing is delicious

What is just as damning is MANDATORY game installs. Unless this thing packs a 250GB HDD minimum with even the basic system it's gone beyond a laughably poor purchase, IMO. At least it mentions the possibility of starting the game off soon after installation starts (though I'll remain skeptical as to how well that actually pans out in practice). Beyond any of this though is the fact that live still exists and what's free on just about any other platform out there is behind a paywall on MS's systems because of reasons.

That's an easy answer. Basically "because I say so, end of discussion."

My take: no it doesn't.
You insert a disc, it instals a game while you boot it up and start playing.
Loading times are reduced, laser wear is reduced and with a little luck you don't have to swap discs all the time to play something else.

The only real negative I'm seeing is the forced Kinect integration and how deep they seem to want to imbed it into the system.
That's a major turn-off. Never was interested in that wonky ass motion wannabe, and I certainly am not looking forward to new games forcing this upon us.

Well they do have the thing where you immediately start playing when a game begins downloading to your HDD. Although, I have a gut feeling that Sony pulled a quick one on MS with their early reveal and showed a bunch of features that MS has been working on to steal their thunder. Maybe those features hardly even work right now. I have no idea, and that's totally coming out of my ass but it's just a feeling.

You don't really to install the whole content of the disc to speed up loading times, just some portion of the data. The first Xbox already did that, all games installed automatically some data to the HDD. They changed this with the Xbox360 because the HDD was standard.

It's possible however, with the competition being more important, I doubt Sony is completely in the dark with what MS is doing

Why would you need to be connected to the internet to install a game from the Blu-Ray disc to the hard drive?

No online validation of your install means you can buy a copy of the game and all your friends now have it on their HDD to play with.

I believe PC games used to be like that originally.

What would happen on this forum if MS did both?

Same thing as usual

Paywall
Kinect
Bender Gif

:P

I'm probably going to pick up a PS4 if I do the console route next gen but I seriously hope to hell MS spanks the shit out of Sony for the glorious reading to be had

The Wii-U is the first console I have not purchased in over a decade...chances are I will cave buy a Durango also :P

I always install my games also, but some people just want to put in the game an play without waiting for installation and they might not want to take up the space on their hard drives. The always online, mandatory Kinect and anti-used games rumors bother me much more than that.

If all games must be installed and the games are all going to be on blu-ray discs the game sizes are going to be HUGE.

Is MS going to ship a 1TB hard drive with this sucker?
