Here are my definitions for the various HD ports and whatnots:

HD Port - Little or nothing has been improved, only HD-fied and implemented a widescreen resolution, the movies still remain the same. (ex. God of War HD Collection, DMC HD Collection).
HD Remaster - Game is the same but the models are obviously improved, including textures, lighting and possibly music. Adding content from the previous and unreleased versions and/or rerendering CGI movies is a plus (ex. FFX|X2 HD Remaster, Wind Waker HD, KH 1.5 HD Remix).
HD Remake - Everything, including the assets are brand new (ex. Ducktales HD, Bionic Commando Rearmed).

Basically, a remaster to me is in between remake and port.

It's highly unlikely there will only be English voices available in the JP version of this. Which means they will probably use the JP voices again for the Asia release. Which means I'll be importing the Asia release if they will stick to English audio only in the North American release. It sure would be nice if Squenix used the 50 GB of space on the Blu-ray disc for dual-audio though.

It's difficult to say since SE has multiple versions of FFXIII and XIII-2 released in Asia, even on the same day. We have the Japan import (JPN Voices and Text) and the Asian release of this version on the same release date). On the N.A. release date Asia actually gets two versions(at least with XIII-2 and LR). Version one is exactly like the N.A. Version while Version 2 is Japanese voices plus English and Chinese text. So it's difficult to predict whether they would do the same for this release.

I think it was their special policy with FF XIII. They have been heavy at localizing XIII series around Asia, and most countries got it localized in perfect way.

The problem is if they will bother to do the same with FFX/X-2 or not. Apparently they didn't do it with KH HD 1.5, where Chinese version and Asia version are not coming out.

With all these comparisons, I can honestly say I never realised how good vanilla X's graphics were for it's time.
I was young, and never really payed attention to such things, but damn...

I can remember the first time I played FFX, I was absolutely blown away by the graphics. Not even that it's one of the best games ever but definitely one of my favourites. Just had something about it.

I did copy my discs onto my PC for a playthrough on PCSX2, but with this finally being announced officially and coming out this year, it's kind of made that redundant. I've been itching to play through both games, and what's great is that I'll finally be able to play the international version of FFX-2, which had some pretty cool stuff in that Westerners missed out on.

It was amazing. I didn't have a clue what was going on, but the opening scene with everything getting sucked into the sky was mind blowing.

I wonder if the battle models still have "meat" hands, or will be given individual fingers now

It is.

I guess I can post this that somebody did over at GameFAQs.

Down-right gorgeous.

Okay if we define downgrade in the most literal sense yes, it was not one.

If you want to characterise FFX-2 as a downgrade from FFX on budgetary grounds, you would be absolutely right. However from a technology aspect X-2 has some noteworthy visual improvements over FFX.

A good example is how the desert environment of Bikanel has sections where the shadows of moving clouds are cast on the ground. Its a striking effect. Another thing I remember being significantly improved is all the in-engine cinematic stuff as seen through the various viewing spheres in the game, and there are literally hours of footage to watch as if to apologize for the relatively limited amount of pre-rendedered CG movies.

Admittedly the only new in-game areas of any significance are right at the beginning and the end of the story, but the additional areas inbetween are often significantly re-dressed and expanded.

The main thing is that FFX really didn't need much work doing world-wise, and I'm glad SE focussed mainly on adding bucketloads of content within it.

While true, it is a remaster. And they kind of went to an extreme with Wind Waker. Plus FFX is begging for an overhaul in lighting much more than Wind Waker
What were you expecting from this? HD remaster is pretty self-explanatory, and evidently they've gone beyond what's expected of even that.

Also, I wouldn't call Wind Waker HD the definitive HD remaster comsidering it appears to be taking a massive, blue-tinted piss over the original visuals.

I was taking exception to the people saying its closer to a remake

If you didn't have the two versions of the game right next to each other you wouldn't even realise there was a difference
I'm sorry, but if this is the case you should get your eyes checked out.

They now look like a 2005 PS2 game in HD rather than a 2001 PS2 game in HD
The textures look to be around 16x the original resolution. PS2 couldn't remotely handle them, neither in 2005 nor in 2050.

Blasphemy.

the end boss
is a lumpy thing that's called sin or something something

at least FFX-2 was retarded fun. I loved the dress spheres and they should release HD footage of the girls changing. That's the real selling point of the package imo. It also had better combat. :)

Maybe the release date will be in the trailer? *crosses fingers*

Although probably not. Even though the trailer hasn’t leaked (yet), that info probably would have from someone who saw the trailer at PAX.

They probably won't reveal a date until they're closer to release.

I found this on gamefaqs

FFX/X-2 will be an August/September release. Kingdom Hearts in October, Lightning Returns around Thanksgiving. X/X-2 is expected to sell 3 million copies and is expected to do better overall than Lightning Returns. Remember, even if only HALF of the people that bought FFX buy the Remaster, thats still MILLIONS more than XIII-2 did and the projected numbers for Lightning Returns (around 2.5 million is the number being tossed around).

if thats true august is too long :( it should be june or july

I know that this should be taken with a grain of salt because GameFAQs and all that, but SE expecting this to sell 3 million copies? I wish them luck with that.

Also, a summer release would be nice for this.
