The reason why America abandoned F1?

Fork 'em, Sparky!
Driver wins, then apologizes for victory.

NASCAR may have less "class" and pedigree, but damn if teammates don't routinely jockey for position, pass each other on the last lap and fight it out in the pits after a race. The fact that a driver had to apologize to his teammate for beating him makes this a sport not worth watching or paying attention to, IMO.

What say you F1 fans? I know you number plenty on the board, but this is pretty indefensible.

Teams get more money for their position in the constructors championship than they do for their positions in the drivers championship, so it is inevitable that team orders will occur.

When you're specifically told by your team do not pass, they tell the other guy it's easy running and told to slow down because he won't be passed, then he blasts past him it's not a team effort, it's him being a dickhead and wanting all the glory. There's more to F1 than just flooring it and Vettle is a baby faced little shit.

"It's frustrating. Formula One is both a team and an individual sport and sometimes there is a conflict between a driver's desire and a team's interest," Horner said. "What happened today is something that shouldn't have happened. It's something that Sebastian has apologized for and it's something that we will discuss internally as a team."

You didn't post an article about the bullshit that happened at Indy when only 6 cars raced.

And F1 is back in a big way. Over 150k people at the race last year in Austin, wish I could be there again this year :(

.

what is wrong with drivers saying the truth? Vettel almost fucked the whole race for him, his teammate and the whole team. Nothing wrong with being humble, he didn't deserved to win.

If a driver is slower in a team and holding up his teammate then the usual procedure in F1 has been to tell the slow driver he is slower and allow the faster one in front, today both teams decided to do the opposite and I can't really work out why. The only thing I can think of is that both teams have a contractual agreement with their drivers to provide them a win/podium or face some sort of cash settlement.

Lewis was low on fuel, let Rosberg overtake, simple. Webber was simply slower than Vettel, let Vettel win and get the exra points as historically Vettel has a better chance for the championship than Webber does. It just seems like madness to me.

"The reason why America abandoned F1" sounds so unbelievably obnoxious I want to punch someone in the face.

Yeah, America abandoned it, as opposed to the rest of the world - those ignorant, uneducated idiots. Amirite?

Ugh.

Ugh.

Webber wasn't slower, Vettel whined about not being able to overtake him on the radio and after that he couldn't keep up with Webber.

He was only faster because Webber was conserving fuel and tires in the end, like instructed by the team. It's not rocket science.

Exactly. The team instructed Webber to tune down his engine to save it at the end of the race. Vettel didn't and so he was faster and overtook him. Now, did the team asked Vettel to tune down the engine too and he didn't or they simply didn't ask him? Who knows.

It's why he is a multiple world champion & why Webber will never win one (also I'm sure Webber has ignored instructions in the past, its just that he wasn't good enough to over take Vettel).

You guys could post in the thread and ask questions instead of making up poo like "had to apologize for beating his teammate"

Team agreed to keep positions like they were during the last stint and bring home the cars safely.

Vettel went full asshole and ignored it for his own gain all of the sudden.

The lack of a successful driver from the US and a US based team challenging for top honours are two of the most important reasons why the US hasn't embraced F1 like certain countries as of yet.

Nope. The reason is there hasn't been any good American race car drivers for decades so they had nobody to cheer for.
you can count on your fingers the nationality between the drivers who have won world championships in F1 for the past 2 decades maybe even more than that, Americans don't care because they don't have to, the world has Soccer, US has football, baseball, basketball, world has F1 us has NASCAR, Indycar

and as much I love F1 the reasons stated in OP are on of the main reasons I don't put the sport higher than the ones we have here, team orders are fucking bullshit no matter how you slice it

at above read my post because that's bullshit.

I know it is a huge economic draw for my local community because this weekend is the Grand Prix in St. Pete, FL which is 45 mins. north of me.

Pretty easy to overtake someone when the team orders him to slow down.

When Webber decided to ignore team orders he failed to overtake Vettel, & given that it was a very odd order(only the craziest Webber fan would think he was a better bet for a WC then Vettel) I can see why Vettel ignored it ( & as both drivers finished the race it worked out well for RB).

US F1 would have been an embarrassing spectacle if they made it to track

There are far more layers to what happened this morning/today/last night than what you described.

Ugh.

of course that's what the title implies.

This is what happens when team trumps individual goals. They wanted the 1-2 finish rather than one or both drivers out of the race which has occurred in the past when teammates jockey for position. It's not like Vettel and Webber have a great relationship so he shouldn't be that surprised that Vettel supposedly did not hear team orders.

Which country are you from?

Americans seem unable to enjoy a sport unless a countryman is participating in it. dat patriotism.

This is exactly the same kind of stuff that happens with some Americans and football.

It seems that some individuals can't handle the fact that they're irrelevant in a popular sport, so they keep trying to justify their nation's "abandonment" of such sport with inane criticisms like this one or the "We don't care about football because of all the diving!" line.

This thread's title and content are perfect examples of that.

Yes.

Which country are you from?

I fail to see your point.

Indeed.

But a US team done right with an appropriate budget/funding/sponsorship and most importantly personnel could be on par with the likes of Caterham and Marussia initially. Moving up the grid beyond that point to contest with the midfield runners may take years, but the foundations would be set.

I have a vague memory of the Ferrari team ordering Barrichello to let Schumacher pass just before the finish line a decade or so ago. Made them look really bad. Anyone remember the incident?

Vaguely. Heh.

It was pure bullshit.

I kinda wish Mark decides to hang it up this year and during the last race he is leading Vettel with a few points in a fight for the championship and he Schumacher vs Hill/Schumacher vs Villenueve's him but only successfully. I want him to win the title by fucking over Vettel lol

Happens everywhere. I mean for example here in Finland the number of headlines/people talking about F1 is in direct correlation with Kimi Räikkönen's comeback and how he and other Finn drivers are doing.

some
but it is true that most give no fucks if we are good at soccer or that the rest of the world likes it.
