Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

I have a more simple but weird theory, the third character simply represents ' the player'. The player may take the form of another character or an otherworldly force controlling Snake depending on the situation.

Something like this has to be going on. The first moments of that trailer being from the perspective of some random off-screen character has to be important. Something's up.

Makes me think of that soldier in the trailer that got shot and fell on BB's arm when they were rescuing Kaz from motherbase.

Who knows if the guy actually looks like Big Boss. Maybe he's just been conditioned to think he does, with or without a change in his physical appearance.
Guess so, but if he then meets other characters like Ocelot, I would expect the truth to come out sooner than later...

I'm bored at work..

I don't think that we get to play as big boss in this game.
My guess is that we play as the third guy who is with Kaz and Snake at the beginning of the new trailer.
While he's in coma, he undergoes plastic surgery to make him look like Big Boss.
Then he gets "hypnotized" to think he is Big Boss.
And he become's Big Boss Phantom ...

Bah, Whatever.. :)
So crazy...it might be TRU. I believe this.

is this coming on the PS4, yes or no?

No official word yet, but the footage we've seen so far doesn't look like PS360, and at least Ground Zeroes was stated as running on mid-high end PC hardware.

The only major game in the series I've missed out is peace walker... I tried to play it, but the PSP's controls were just waaaay to gimp. Might have to give it another go before V comes out.

Flashforward to next year: "Goddamnit! It's the Raiden thing all over again! We were told we would be playing as Big Boss, but that's just during the prologue, and we actually spend the rest of the game as Johnny Sasaki Senior instead!"

Kojima confirmed PO was canon.
Yeah, but that was back when they were promoting the game. Nowadays, they completely skip over it whenever they recap the series.

lol People always read way too deep into these trailers... The answer is always the common sense one, even with Kojima.

I still bet it will be PS4 but they waiting for Xbox announcement , the game has no release date so they could be stalling

I figured that too, I just hope PC is announced. Would be a shame to waste all that stuff on a PS3 or 360, let me crank that shit up to 11 and see it sparkle

Whatevz, I'm forging ahead with Team FakeSnake. Guy just thinks he's Snake, and he's either a decoy, another attempt by the Patriots to create another Big Boss, or something else along those lines.

Predicting a scene exactly like this at some point in the game:

Yes, I have a habit of reading too much into things. Postmodern fiction and LOST, respectively, have ruined me.

I'm beginning to doubt if Snake is really hallucinating or not.

When the fire dude walks out, the sprinkler above him activates and puts the fire out. He says "The Pain!" as he goes.

Is that really a hallucination? Maybe he's a ghost like The Sorrow?

The mullet is a symbol of non-conformity.

It also looks terrible when Snake isn't wearing a bandana. They should give BB his short hair finally.

Also, the water thing points to Volgin, I think. He's visibly scared when rain stars pouring in Snake Eater at one point. Water is his weakness.

The HD collection version of Peace Walker is excellent.

I believe that he's part of the XOF unit sent to kill Big Boss as is child Psycho Mantis. Some things may be hallucinations, but I'm sure there's truth to a lot of it. Kojima is moving back toward the supernatural.

I was thinking they are all machinations created from Big Boss's nightmares via Psycho Mantis. He is causing BB to see things from his past because they are his fears/emotionally traumatic type experiences.

Then I feel the whale and the pegasus are just Mantis having fun.

The latest MGS, PW, references PO so Kojima definitely still (edit: at least up to 2010) considers it canon.

"Finally, we can leave all that crap in San Hieronymo behind."

I don't remember this at all.

1st time he's at the bridge when the boss defects. It starts raining and he's not scared at all.

2nd time is during the boss fight and he doesn't look scared either. He even jokes and says "heh, who's afraid of a little thunder?"

The strangest thing is why they waited 9 years to kill/capture Big Boss. Just happens to coincide with him waking up. Either it's just convenient writing or there's more to it.

On the bridge, he says "Kuwabara, Kuwabara" as a good luck thing. When you get to the warehouse, and he tortures Eva while she's in disguise, that's the scene I was mentioning where it shows that he's not exactly fond of the rain. I'm guessing during the boss fight, he's already pissed at Snake and Eva for blowing up his fortress and damaging the Shagohod. I'm guessing the rain was the least of his worries.

If this is current gen, that make me even more excited. Imagining next gen looking better than this is truly an amazing prospect!

Just one line, and one that could be interpreted in a not-so-flattery way at that... ^^;
And I was referring to more recent publications when I said Konami was now ignoring it for all intents and purposes.

Just a guess, but maybe this was after they deemed the les enfants terribles project a success, maybe he became expendable at that point.

Mantis appears to repeatedly stop the progress of the XOF guys, and is also pursuing BB seperately.

Eh I just don't see it.
Good idea though.

I'm not worried that much that Otsuka has been confirmed. It's probably just another false trail from Kojima -- I highly doubt that they'd just kick Hayter to the curb. If Hayter isn't voicing Big Boss in the game, it's for story reasons.

What were the story reasons for him not voicing Big Boss in MGS4?

I believe Ishmael doesn't see neither Phycho Mantis at the elevator nor the fire demon coming from the explosion, further adding to the theory that it's an illusion. He doesn't react to Mantis at all, and only states a casual "something is coming" when the elevator is coming down. Surely a levitating kid disappearing through the ceiling would evoke some kind of reaction.
As would a burning demonic brute getting destroyed by sprinklers.

But since Ishmael is an illusion too, Big Boss is pretty fucked up in the head.

I assume it Big Boss' age and/or the fact that they didn't want Hayter having a conversation with himself.

Snake was physically old in MGS4, too, and he was still David Hayter.

Big Big Boss looks and sounds like a different person as he gets older. Hence the new voice actor as his face starts to resemble his elderly self more in The Phantom Pain.

So 360 owners are going in without playing mgs4? I thought for sure that they would have released a multidisc port by now.

Even if coma guy isn't really Big Boss, if he's supposed to pass as him, I'd expect him to have the same voice. Wouldn't be much of a twist if you could immediately go "that's not Ôtsuka, hence that's not really him" as soon as he opened his mouth.
So I expect coma guy to be voiced by Ôtsuka whether or not he really is Big Boss. And if Hayter isn't voicing him in the English version, I think that means he's just not part of the cast this time around.

From my PoV it was a side game so the fact it even got one reference means it was considered canon.

About the interpretation, an interesting observation, but there's no evidence to support Kojima hated the game and he desperately ("Finally we can..") wanted to make it non canon. The best he could do was to NOT reference it.

So IMO it's canon until major events from it are retconned (eg Grey Fox, Roy Campbell).

What were the story reasons for him not voicing Big Boss in MGS4?

He had to talk face to face with Solid Snake. So it would have been the same voice for both and would have been confusing. So either Solid is in this or they just left out Hayter.
What I don't like is BB still looks like he did in MGS3, so the voice shouldn't change. In MGS4 he looked very different so the voice change was fine

Or they are gearing up for a future installment featuring them both, Big Boss was Snake's mentor after all. Might as well get the issue out of the way now.

I find it weird Snake don't talk much or at all, and the voice at the end isn't evem coming from Snake, sounds like Miller too
And the GDC demo didn't have the English voice over for "kept you waiting huh" and the presenter tried to do the voice and apologize for the bad impression of Snake
Also, ALSO lol Hayter ask us how we would feel if he didn't do the voice a month ago and now he is acting all surprised
