Wii U Satisfaction Thread

I really like the WiiU but there is soooo much room for perfection:

Faster OS
More games --> Give third parties a Nintendo IP to restore the connection
Virtual Console: all games from Game Boy, Nes, Snes, N64, MegaDrive, Dreamcast??? and Gamecube all playable on the Gamepad/Screen. Maybe even a Playstation Plus vibe for these games.. pay 5 euro a month and relive the past.

so I was vacuuming yesterday and snagged the power cord from the Gamepad dock. It tore the gray wire up a little, but the copper inside looks untouched. Can I just get electrical tape or something and cover this up?

also.... it looks like it's just a USB connection.... but Nintendo's cable goes from USB -> Power brick -> electric plug. I wonder if I could just use any USB cable or if it needs that power brick for some reason?
Honestly, I'm no expert but I think just wrapping it in electrical tape would be fine. Does it look like any wires are touching that weren't touching before?

New Wii U owner question - does the Wii U pro controller work with Wii eshop VC games? Looking at some of the Wii Eshop titles for N64 and they all say they need the classic controller. Does that mean the only option is the classic controller from Wii plugged in with a cord?

You're confusing things a bit here. There's the eShop (Wii U) and the Wii Shop Channel. Anything Wii related (such as Wii VC games from the Shop Channel) cannot be played with the Pro Controller. This is because you have to enter Wii mode to play them, and the Pro Controller cannot be used in that mode.

That's correct. When you're in Wii mode, your Wii U is a Wii. If the Wii couldn't use it then it won't work. You might want to hold out and see what happens with the update this month. Supposedly they're adding VC to the Wii U eShop. I think it's only supposed to to be NES and SNES though.

well, I just got a WiiU. The Deluxe version with the Zombi U bundle.

here are some impressions:

The Good:
-Loving the GamePad, it's light, the display is crisp and the buttons feels great.
-Loving the Pro Controller... I thought I wouldn't like the thumbstick placement, but after playing a while, I think I love it.
-The Miiverse is really fun, it's addictive and I'm getting better with the drawings.
-I'm enjoying the three games I got so far (New Super Mario, Nintendo Land and Zombi U). Planning to get scribblenauts and AC3 by the end of the month.
-Nintendo on HD. Great, now I'm just hoping for more games to be announced.

The Bad:
-The OS is incredible slow... I really hate it =(
-The GamePad reception is worse than I thought. as soon as a wall gets in the way, I lost connection
-I had a couple of freezes the first day... haven't happened again, not sure why.
-The account system is kinda retarded. I registered myself as a USA user to get the club nintendo points, but I actually live in Mexico, so now I can't use my credit card to buy stuff (i had to make a separate account to buy Punch Out, but aparently, I can play it with both of my accounts, I really don't get it)
-The "installing" times are horribly slow too. And I find it weird that you have to install something after download it... at least let me install it in the background. It's stupid.

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. I'm concious that it will be a Nintendo machine with a couple of gems here and there; and I'm perfectly happy with that, I'm just hoping to get the "big games". (Zelda, Mario Kart, Smash, etc).

If anyone wants to add me, my NNID is zRuben. Let me know, to add you back =)

Register yourself as Canadian, and use the Canadian eShop.

I have to say the web browser from the tablet is awesome.

Was looking for the last of the emblems in RE6 on the 360 and had the emblem guide webpage on the pad next to me. Easy to zoom/browse. Will be getting a lot of use.

Question for anyone - I'd like to buy Mega Man 9 and 10 off of WiiWare, however I don't know if I should do it from my old Wii or if I should wait until they move it over to the Wii U?

I don't think there was ever any mention of WiiWare being brought over to the eShop.

That's what i will do. I have a feeling they will then ever-so-slowly release Wii U VC titles and the ones I want won't be out for another 2 years. This would be one of the main complaints I have with the Wii U - they have done all this before yet it's taken half a year to get basic Virtual Console functionality. Par for the course for Nintendo digital stuff but still.

Finally got a pro controller. It's pretty cool, but am I alone in thinking the face buttons are a little too far toward the middle of the controller? Nothing major, but not really as comfortable as I feel like it should be.

at this point, this is the console that has led me to finally click with Monster Hunter.

couldn't be more pleased with this machine right now, and it's in the middle of it's 'drought'

Everything you asked for is definitely coming, apart from GC and DC games. Your PS+ idea is awesome but Nintendo will never do it :(

Finally checked out Batman. Wow, it's pretty cool. The gamepad really does add a new way to play. It's almost like a console version of a DS.

I think it has a lot of potential. It's kind of sad atheists Wii U isnt taking off right now. Hope that changes soon.

Also playing gamepad mode is pretty sweet. It's funny, usually I like playing console games on a big screen but using the gamepad brings out the portable gamer inside me. It looks good on it.

I didn't even know Nintendo said it was launching in spring. With the way the website words it i'm guessing nes and snes games will be the only games to choose from when it launches?

so had a hard lock while playing assassin's creed. Never had one while playing a game just in miiverse and the browser. Pretty annoying but i wasnt that far in the game. Does this happen often in this game or is it completely random?

Just bought one on amazon from a spanish shop for 199€. Premium version to boot.

For that price I threw in Mario and zombi U.

I'm excited. Now the wait begin. I'll ask for some friends once I have it, I don't know anyone owning the console. Please be gentle.

Edit : Did I miss Super Metroid? :(

Nope. It comes after Kirby's Adventure, which comes after Punch Out (the VC game available currently)

Its April VC month guys!!!!!
Is is safe to say that the system wide vc will arrive with the april update? As far as I know Nintendo hasn’t confirmed that. They only say: “spring”.

And why will there only be nes and snes followed by game boy advanced games? What about N64 and the other systems we got on wii?

I really hope we hear more about the VC either before or at E3. It was one of my favourite aspects of the Wii and I hope Nintendo and the other [former] console manufacturers get most of it transferred across so that the gamepad and pro controller can be used for them.

Anyone else notice that the drive never really seems to spin down even if you're not playing from the disc?
Uses less power to spin at a set speed instead of constantly accelerating.
Dunno why it doesn't spin down at all, unless the tradeoff for efficiency is such slow acceleration that it'd make starting a game take even longer...

Drive motors require a miniscule amount of power, and CD drives don't use constant speeds (like hard drives do). Disk spinning speeds vary constantly depending on the part of the disk that is being read.

The disc constantly spinning even when no game is being played is clearly something they haven't implemented yet, not some complex consideration of loading times.

Its not safe to say I dont think. Its cited to be coming after the spring update.

I'm not an expert on the proprietary drive in the Wii U; but, when your entire system uses between 35 and 40 watts, the drive's power isn't a minuscule percentage anymore. This entire system seems designed to reduce any power spikes at all, and I haven't heard my Wii U's disc drive accelerating while playing. Maybe I just haven't noticed it, but the thing is remarkably quite.

Where and how?

The Wii U might use a drive that spins at a constant speed (fast drives tend to use constant speeds), but the idea that this was done out of power requirement concerns is absurd - not only because these spindle motors don't require much power at all, but also because keeping power consumption low is about keeping cooling requirements manageable. The drive motor is pretty much the last target to attack in that battle.

I had a couple of lock ups when I first turned my system on last week, but it's been rock solid since (I rented ACIII and haven't have any problems with it).

Don't recall ever having one with this game.

Just so you know, if people add you via Miiverse (a.k.a. the correct way), then the bolded isn't necessary. You'll receive a notification.

Started last weekend ZombiU, and man, what a game, I've already died 4 times and I am so angry at myself for each live lost ! I really wanted to keep my number of survivors low and enjoy the sense of discovery on my first playtrough, but man, the devs are so evil :D

My only complaint is that I'm used to wiimote for FPS, so it's a bit frustrating to come back to a dual analog FPS scheme...

Can't wait to continue (to die in every trap) !

I bought Rabbids Land from the eShop sale, and it is surprisingly decent, at least with 3 players. Nintendo Land is maybe a bit too hardcore for casual players, but this works nicely...

edit: the game is pretty limited in options and number of mini games, so it probably gets old fast too.

Yeah it's fine, it worked well along Nintendo Land with friends for me. It's pretty fun but not worth the non discounted price.
I had to buy it at launch because gf insisted on it

You may be absolutely correct, but i don't put odd decisions for strange reasons passed Nintendo. They seemed to be more interested in power consumption with cooling being a subsequent bonus. I dunno what this eco friendly kick that nintendo is on is about, maybe the Greenpeace classification actually bothered Iwata in the wake of the Tsunami... That and an uncertain future of the Japanese power grid at the time the Wii U was gettiing kicked into full gear development-wise. Perhaps they were expecting a spike in energy bills on Japan? (Nuclear reactors melting down and whatnot)

Edit: Please consider that i'm not trying to say that I'm correct, or that you're wrong. I'm just further explaining the reasoning behind my comment.

I don't know where else to put this:
http://www.wiiuonly.com/2013/03/conversion-software-makes-it-easier-to.html

Conversion software makes it easier to port iOS games to Wii U

Nintendo is trying to make it as easy as possible for indie developers to create software for their digital store, and it looks like one third-party company is about to make it a whole lot easier for iOS developers to port their games to the Wii U.

Steward Christie of Tizen App Developers has announced via Twitter that the company has software that can convert iOS to Javascript and CSS, both of which are supported by the Big N's new console. iOS developers who are attending GDC 2013 have been invited to stop by for a demonstration.

https://twitter.com/intel_stewart/status/317026456381296641

While this means it may be possible for iOS developers to easily port games over to the system, many would likely have to be reworked due to the fact that the iPad and iPhone support multi-touch, while the touchscreen of the Wii U GamePad does not. Nevertheless, this new development could open the doors for a multitude of new games.
