Shin Megami Tensei IV (3DS) coming to NA retail/eShop Summer 2013 (July 16)

The sprites are high def or redone like Etrian Odussey 4, right?

It'd be odd to use old sprites with beautiful graphics.

The older "sprites" seem to be new scans of old official art. I don't think they look low resolution, but they don't really match the style of the new art.

This is awesome, definitely did not expect a release this soon! Now to decide between importing a US 3DS or a 3DSXL.

They are definitely a higher resolution than Strange Journey, but they seem to have similar animations. They're all from the same Kaneko / New People art, so the designs will be familiar.
Ok, thanks.

I was hoping for a Etrian Odyssey 4 treatment where all the enemies are redone with new animations. But this is still good. Not complaining at all.

This ain't Persona mang.

I hope they do get away from those in Persona 5.

Thank god, random dungeons blow.

I'll probably pick this up? There are so many games out for 3DS it's kind of overwhelming, but I doubt this will drop in price until a long ass time, so I might as well buy it earlier rather than later.

Mai Waifu

I wonder if I can get her to confess her love of me after hanging out with her 10 times and then never speak to her again

Any chance of a Strategy guide from anyone? There hasnt been any for an Atlus game since the original Persona 4

Can anyone give me a sense of what to expect with Soul Hackers? I want it, but EO4 has been giving me trouble (the games are similar, no?, and I have so little time to play as it is.

This is not the first 3DS game to cost fifty bucks.

It's 2013, everything is spreadsheets and wikis now. (I say that but apparently Call of Duty Black Ops 2 strategy guides exist??)
It is in the US; RE:R almost launched at $50, but the uproar over their flimsy justification for the price caused Capcom to relent.

Why do you want boring dungeons getting in the way of awesome daily life simulation activities and social links?

I almost can't tell that you're being sarcastic, but it's all about the balance! Having all of those simulation elements is all good as long as it's backed up by compelling dungeons and battle systems. Persona 5's dungeons will, hopefully, greatly improve that element of the series.

The decline of Strategy guide for RPGs is something no one talks about. I am pretty sure a few years ago games like Tales of Graces or Fire Emblem: Awakening would gotten some kind of guide.

Yeah, it is declining. I still have the guide for the first GBA Fire Emblem game.

Nothing in particular, it's just a difficult game. I'm not terribly "good" at dungeon-crawlers, but I'm liking it so far.

The game has an easy mode so you can just pick that. Also, if you feel that it's too easy, you can switch back to the normal difficulty on the fly. Not sure if it has a hard mode.

Soul Hackers 3DS has some extra features to alleviate some of the "old-schoolness", such as a reduced difficulty setting, but especially an auto-map function that will display the entire layout of a dungeon floor automatically, so it's just a matter of going from point A to point B. If you feel this trivializes it too much, you can toggle those options at any time.

Otherwise, it's a good intro to the series. The battle mechanics are simpler, though you'll still need to grow accustomed to demon fusion (it's not hard; just try to keep current with your level). I guess unlike a lot of SMT games, Soul Hackers 3DS is a game that definitely wants you to finish it.

My 3 favorite Megaten games are SMT Nocturne, Persona 2 Duology and Persona 4. Id put Nocturne and P2 at tied, and P4 is under them two. I suspect that Soul Hackers will take the spot from P4

Yeah, as someone who is attuned to the series entirely for its mythological elements, Persona can deliver just as much on that front as SMT. At the end of the day though, the presentation and tone of the main series are more of what I'm looking for.

Persona is more focused on Psychology than Mythology, but many never get that, and are simply fans of waifus or life sim (I refuse to call it date sim because the "dating" is only a small tiny part of it) aspects of it.

But Carl Jung based a lot of his research and archetypes on mythology. :p

You're right though, it's easily overlooked, but always there if people want to look a little deeper.

Had no idea there was a SMT vs Persona beef. I thought SMT fans just liked both series.

I mean the Nocturne guide was one of the best I owned. Now days we are lucky to getting a crappy guide from Brady Games for Disgaea 4.
The Fire Emblem guide I mentioned had beautiful artwork in it which is why I bought it. Plus I really loved that game.

Honestly the only guides I ever thought worth buying were the Nintendo Power ones but those are long gone now :/

Quite a bit do, but its more of a Megaten fan beef vs People who are just fans of P3/P4. Of course there are those who dont like Modern Persona for their more bright and animeish (SMT4 is anime too but you know what I mean) looks and such. Also the focus shifted away from dungeon crawling somewhat, something most of us Megaten people thrive on.
