3DS Streetpass Experiences

I've found that even in my rural area I'm getting 1 or 2 StreetPasses on average when I go to town now.

I got my mom a 3DS so we've been getting StreetPassed by each other about twice a day now. She got up to the first room with the yellow shield and wasn't having any luck with hired dogs so I temporarily changed my shirt to yellow but her next StreetPass from me still showed me in light blue. I had her delete my Mii and I'm assuming that will work next time we StreetPass (but will reset me to level 1 on her system.)

Is there any way to change your shirt color without having to delete the Mii from the recipient's system?

You don't need to delete a Mii from the Plaza at all to receive an altered version of it. After you changed your shirt color in the Mii Maker on your system, did you go back into the StreetPass Mii Plaza? 'Cause if you didn't, that's why it didn't update. After changing your Mii, you need to go back into the StreetPass Mii Plaza so it can register the change.

D'oh! That's what went wrong, thanks.

Just got a tag in Sainsburys. Didn't have a single fucking pink piece. Oscar, you're a useless bastard.
Check the mii in plaza to see how many streetpasses he has done? If it is a low number then well, shows the problem with pink pieces.

The worst is when you streetpass somebody who has not started puzzle swap at all :(

Remember when the game asks you when you first start if you prefer Cats or Dogs? It's actually to determine if wandering Heroes are Cats or Dogs.

Holy shit, MIND BLOWN.

All this time playing MH means I don't bat an eye at hiring armed cats to do my bidding, to me it's just an accepted constant of the gaming universe.

So can you disable StreetPasses being shown in Notifications? I checked my Activity Log and seen Notifications was my "most times played".

Hahaha, lol.

I didn't know you could meet the same person numerous times...yesterday I went to the EBgames in the mall near me and when I got back home,I got 3 hits and for one of the Mii's it said this is the 3rd time we have met and was asked a few questions, like do you think I am ok or fantastic etc etc hehe...first time it happens,is this something new...? I only have 45 encounters though.

You'd best answer they're Fantastic, since some of the awards are centered around getting a large number of Fantastic ratings (50, I believe). Though it's also worth noting that if you opt to send a personal message, you cannot send a Fantastic rating in the same turn (the question simply won't pop up).

Got my first pass in around three weeks today.

Someone needs to release a game with some worthwhile Streetpass functions. Animal Crossing and Pokemon will probably stimulate people to start carrying there 3DSs around again.

When I first got my 3DS I used to get street passes at my local game store and I figured it was because they had a display unit but it transpired that one of the ladies who worked there owned a 3DS and brought it too work in the hopes of some street passing action.

That was my only street pass over the next few months since i live in a small town but when i went to Belfast for the weekend i ended up getting 19 in total even though at some point in the weekend the battery on my 3DS ran out.

Need coins but the XL is too big to comfortably carry in my pocket. I'm reduced to cheesing it. Well, using my hand to catch it up to all the steps I DO walk.

If Pokemon X and Y offers battles against the teams of the people you pass and Secret Base swapping, you'll see a skyrocket in terms of Streetpassing, guaranteed.

This has probably been covered, but if I'm going somewhere where I can get a ton of streetpass hits, but I don't want to spend all day playing puzzle swap and find mii, what's the best way to handle it? What's the fastest way to clean out the queue?

When I meet a Mii again it's like playing Virtue's Last Reward wondering if they rated me Fantastic or not. If they didn't do that why should I, the bastards.

Don't play puzzle swap and Find Mii, and just lose those characters. Personally, Puzzle swap is so fast, that it's not a big deal, but you may just want to forego any Find Mii playing in favor of cleaning out the queue, unless you're on a big boss that you just need cannon fodder to whittle down.

It's so nice when you have all the puzzles done (or all the puzzle pieces you're ever going to get - having a JP 3DS in NA is suffering) so you have one less thing to run the queue through. Find Mii goes so fast that I just run it anyway, as long as my shoulder button cooperates.

Street pass newb here, is there a limit to the amount of people you can streetpass with in any given session (ie ds closed in a bag)? last week i was out and about and glanced at my 3ds, i had 9. I thought i had heard somewhere there was a limit of 10 so i did the greeting thing, for each person, then closed it again and continued doing what I was doing. When I came back it showed 4 more, and I greeted them without taking the previous 9 to do the find mii and puzzle swap.

I did puzzle swap and find mii with the second batch of 4 but there was no way I could get the 9 that I had encountered earlier. Would I have been able to get their pieces etc and then come back to the next 4 people I hadn't greeted yet?

Each game (or app) has its own limit.

The star attraction, Mii Plaza, stops at ten, for example.

Kid Icarus can take in fifty before being full, while Mario 3D Land tops out at three.

I get about 4-6 street passes regularly whenever I'm on campus. The funny thing is that the majority of these come from a few people in one of my smaller classes.

This also makes me realize that I will most likely have to use coins to make any further progress in Find Mii II once I graduate college. Out of 2,000 people at work, I know a total of 3 people with 3DS' and I'm the only one who brings mine in.

Yes, you can play with anyone you meet up until you go to the Plaza Gate again, at which point they're history and can't be played with anymore (except to be summoned as an old ally in Find Mii 2). You're even warned to play with the people you just greeted before you go to greet more people if you haven't done Puzzle Swap or Find Mii with them yet. Just don't go to the gate until you're done with the people you've already greeted.

If you need to check your queue size, check your notifications and it'll tell you exactly how many are sitting in your queue.

thanks star, losing those 9 kinda hurt, the most i've ever gotten at once. I won't make that mistake again. does Find Mii 2 automatically start when Find Mii is finished or do I have to do something else? It's strange, I find this more addicting than the games I bought.

When you get all the hats in Find Mii, which is 2x through, I think. Yes, it's very addicting, and
Find Mii II Secret Quest will really push your endurance for waiting to get all the hats. Better either have a way to get thousands of coins or have tons of readily available StreetPasses to clear it with all the hats in any timely manner.

During Wondercon Anaheim 2013 I added 347 streetpasses over the course of 3 days.

I maxed out Fire Emblem Twice (so I got around 100 Fire Emblem Tags)
I got 12 Street Savvy Tags

The sad part is that there was SO MANY Fire Emblem Awakening tags, yet NOT A SINGLE PERSON recognized my friend who was cosplaying as Anna over the course of our 1 hour photoshoot, and hanging out the 3 hours before and after the shoot.

Well, I work a block from the capitol in Madison, WI (population ~215k) and took my 3DSXL to work on my commute the last two days. Not a single hit. Kind of bummed me out. I just bought it a few weeks ago and more often take my Vita for commute. Granted, the area there is mostly government buildings and retail, but it is a rather bustling area in the 7-7 time period.

Oh well, will keep taking it with me around town.

Don't take it expecting to get tags every day (unless you're on a campus or something).

I take mine with me almost everywhere, sometimes I go a week without nothing but then I'll get like six in a single day.

I got one on my drive to work on Tuesday, which was kind of neat.

I really really hate that if you don't use miis immediately, you can never use them again until you see them again (which 99% of the time is never).

Also it's kind of cool but useless that you can't add them to your friends list automatically and that you can't automatically update them online once you've "collected" them in order to be able to use them again later on for the minigames.

I have had my 3DS for about a year now and have actually only gotten 3 StreetPasses despite actively trying to obtain them. I've taken my 3DS to airports on multiple occasions, malls, and other places when I go to run errands. Yesterday I was at a premium outlets for around 3 hours, and there had to be about 5,000 other people due to nice weather from children to elderly people and got nothing.

Where are you guys having the most success? I haven't gotten a StreetPass for about 4 months and am about to just stop trying to get them...

Maybe because people don't have any 3DS in your area? In my case, whenever I go to mall or downtown, I always get around 5 SP per day. Sometimes if I get lucky, I can get around 10.

So I decided to register my last 5 streetpass hits. The last 3 had next to nothing on the puzzles (like 1 puzzle started, a few pieces).

Looking at them one of them was StreetPass Hits 0, Plaza Population 1. I guess I was their first. As for the others, I don't get it, they had bigger populations and more hits than me. I guess they don't use play coins (I do and am up to 78/437...I'm missing 4 of the starting ones and a few advanced ones).

Living in third world countries (New Zealand and Australia) hasn't netted me many Streetpasses. In the last two years since I bought my 3DS I've had around 35 I think and it was less than 10 before I left NZ.

Sometimes I am lucky and might get three at a mall. I did used to get a regular one from EB but the girl who worked there left.

Got one the other day in the supermarket while doing my grocery shop but it ended up I was that persons first SP so puzzle pieces were non existent. These pink ones are going to be the death of me. :P

RE: The airports, don't hang around the arrivals, most people coming off the plane would have wifi off I expect.

  • In cities that are larger/denser than the one you live in.
  • On college campuses or at places of work that have a high nerd concentration.
  • Gaming/anime conventions.
  • Demo units at game stores.
I think that's about it.

My advice is to try not to stress about it. Take the system with you if you want, but keep your expectations at zero. That way it's a pleasant surprise if it does happen rather than disappointment after disappointment when it doesn't.

  • This could be true, I have lived in small towns recently, but have also taken it to denser areas. This is usually when I expect to get StreetPasses, and get frustrated when I come back empty handed like I was yesterday.
  • I actually work ON a college campus. I've had it in my bag before, maybe I just need to take a walk around campus...
  • Can definitely see this being true
  • Same as above

Thanks for the help!!!

Given the size of the 3DS most people are going to need a specific reason to carry it around at this point.

Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, and Etrian Odyssey have kept the 3DS going for the enthusiast audience, but it will take Animal Crossing and Pokemon to sell millions of copies and mobilise the masses.

Holy shit, I didn't knew that the pink magic was so useful. With a couple of level 7 Miis it's almost guaranteed that you will do at least two critical hits, dealing 45 points of damage each attack. Brutal. Specially useful against enemies with a lot of HP.

I've had pink magic make me completely whiff with an entire party. IMO, it's too risky unless you're in a situation where you absolutely need critical hits to do damage to an armored enemy.

Yeah getting streetpasses for me is entirely a waste of time unless you go to a convention.

One of my friends got about 900 at pax east this year.

I used to be able to pick up street passes regularly at work (I work in a department store) but since I started playing Monster Hunter with the bulky circle pad pro attached, I do not keep it in my pocket any more.

Go to game midnight releases at Gamestops. I ALWAYS get street passes there.

Find out if there's a 3DS Meetup group on the campus or in a nearby town and go to it. I got so frustrated with the lack of in-the-wild tags that I started doing that ~18 months ago, and got most of the needed pink pieces that way. Blue pieces was from milking the system for thousands of coins to brute force my way through. If you're in a dense area like Tempe or Dallas, the meetups are more fruitful, but even small area meetups can be a big help. On a college campus, some may have other meetups back where they're from and then bring those collected pieces to the campus meetup, for example.

Over 9400 tags right now. Nintendo World Store Monster Hunter events have been helping! There's also the StreetPass NYC Two Year Anniversary this Sunday!
